For the games that don't have English releases, how playable are they with a limited understanding of moonrunes?

        >For the games that don't have English releases, how playable are they with a limited understanding of moonrunes?

A lot of the japanese only games have storylines believe it or not. Mostly just jpg screens and jpg opponents talking shit before a race which makes up a "campaign". You can get through this but you're missing a bit of the street racer flavor. Navigating menus are easy since it's almost always in English. A bit of trouble will occur in the tuning menus if you're not as familliar with the parts and what they do. Most of them are just "numbers go up equals good" types where it's mostly just HP upgrades like turbos.

      Gotham 2
I still have fond memories of this game. I've probably told the story here before at some point, but I spent a summer with my grandmother when I was 13 because her dementia was starting to get pretty bad. Ended up buying an xbox at some point in July and was sitting in the den playing PGR2 when she came in and sat down with me. After watching for a bit she commented that it looked like fun, so I set her up on the test track in an M3 and showed her the controls, and within about ten/fifteen minutes she was putting up surprisingly good clean lap times for someone who had never used an electronic device more advanced than an electric typewriter.

Thank you Nigel. Can you tell us which racing game is the best on the ZX Spectrum?

  21. 6 months ago

Racing games somehow attract the lowest standards and worst shittaste on /vr/. Probably because of what a nostalgia sodden genre it is with the gameplay being very simple and audiovisuals blotting it out

99% of games either suck or have vatly superior non-retro sequels

    Arcade
    >Test Drive Unlimited
    Realism
    >GTR 2

Both games still quite possibly the best in their respective genres.

A few suggestions If you want to go more retro
    >The Need For Speed
    >Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit
    >Network Q RAC Rally
    >Grand Prix 2
    >Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now

TDU is fun, but has shit handling, PGR 4 is best arcade style game. Never heard of GTR 2, why is it better than something like R Factor?

        >why is it better than something like R Factor?
It runs on a modified version of the same engine, it's a refinement of it. Or a mod if you're feeling really cynical.
It encompasses a really cool era of GT racing and it has really, really great feeling handling and FFB. The version on steam lacks the Ferraris and Porsches, get it elsewhere.
