Noctis VI.
You can still download it and the star chart at 80.style
It doesn't have a story. It's a game for MS-DOS where you travel around looking for planets in a procedurally generated universe. Name them, upload them to a star chart. Take pictures. It's got a unique style.
Oh, sorry. I'm moronic typed that up after just waking up.
Regardless it's cool.
BASEDBASEDBASED
this is what I expected when No Man's Sky was announced, I was perplexed people expected more tbh (now it's fricking Star Citizen, kinda impressive)
I like no man's sky.
My only real issue is the bullshit resource management want all that stripped from the game. I want three resources, one for building, one for supplying power to my ship, and one for ammo.
I don't want to turn 40 cusian shards into 20 EP so I can power my Quantial converter and make spezjun to who gives a shit. Just tedious.
Otherwise a shitload of fun to fly around and explore.
>“game”
see, this is what I'm talking about, NMS was more of a game than NoctisIV will ever be, now it's more of a game than fricking SC itself with each free update, but people just don't get it.
I wish NMS was LESS of a game and more like NoctisIV to be quite honest
>this is what I expected when No Man's Sky was announced
Same. No idea why the devs felt the need to over promise features to the point of scamming people .
FRICK, I was just thinking of making a thread about this shit. How are you inside my head?
ok >2 days ago but still, in /vr/ time that's incredible
What a weird frickin trip this game was, a real "Experience".
It's really amazing how much a homebrew rendering engine can make something look unique and distinct and alien. Also I remember having two different versions that were totally different somehow.
There was Noctis IV and then IV CE. The Community Edition had a different universe iirc, and a few more plantery features that could be found iirc.
It's been a long time though.
Probably runs great in 86Box. Spose it's time for a reinstall.
I've heard of and played Oolite and Pioneer Space Sim, but have heard some real good things about Noctis. I assume this game takes a very different path from the Elite formula, yes?
I installed this on a 4gb thumb drive maybe back in 2009. I happen to still have the drive and decided to see if I could back it up bc of this thread.... but the usb is corrupt ;_; could some kind soul pls send a safe archive download link that doesn't have viruses ;_;
Spent ages in that frickin game. Good times.
Wonder if my planets are still named in the tracker.
Anywherebb is gone tho.
What game is this? Looks ludo.
Noctis VI.

Tried to find the game. Turned out it's "Noctis IV", wanted to try it, but the archive has some suspicious trojan.
Clamscan reports nothing on my end, compressed or uncompressed. You sure you're not just falling for some dumb false-positive?
Maybe false alarm. But turned out that win version is useless anyway and I need DOS version which at the moment runs at 5 FPS.

Talking of which, how is the “game” doing?

Found this DOSBox settings for higher performance.
Set memory to 32 MB, instead of 16
Set the core to always be Dynamic, because if it's on auto, it won't run right
set full resolution to 0x0
make sure that fulldouble is false
Also be very sure that aspect is false
set cycles to max
>DOSBox
has no one made a source port that works on modern os's?
It exists, but outdated, laggy and crashes.

That emscripten version is cool. Shame it's unfinished. Last work on it was 9 months ago.
