I'd say out of the hundred-ish rolls I did in the CBT I got about 8 6 stars, two of them being dupes. I know that sounds pretty bad but the 4 & 5 stars can carry pretty well too.

The rates are pretty well known, and you shouldn't give people the illusion they get eight 6 stars in 100 rolls.
The 6 star rate is 1.5%. In 70 rolls you are guaranteed 1. 100 rolls do not even average two 6 stars.

It's fairly popular and well liked. The game was kind of stingy with rolls and materials early on but the devs actually listened to feedback and started giving more stuff through events. They put a lot of efford in the game and it shows.

I've been getting assaulted with ads, and based on video views it seems like a lot of people have also been hit with R1999 ads too, so it isn't impossible that 1m people decided to hit pre-register without even thinking. I've done the same thing for games I barely even touched simply because they looked cool and didn't wanna forget about them. 1M registrations doesn't mesn it'll translate to that many players out the gate. And compared to more popular gacha 1M is relatively small.
Once the game is actually out it'll be easy to confirm downloads in the Playstore/ios store anways.

Theres nothing competitive to drive discussion and it doesn't have a legacy of content like limbus company. The characters aren't lewd enough to drive a ton of fan art. I think it will be really popular for a month or two and then once most people finish the story content it will plummet.
I'm still really interested in it though, the prospect of a gacha I can play in my own native language for once is attractive.

you drag cards around to combine & use abilities, the number of actions based on the number of characters. There's also things like records/songs that can alter your playstyle, like in the CBT there was the basic "level up a 1 star card" and "mulligan" and the more advanced "free card move" and "level up a card to max". Characters can be upgraded with bonus passives & stats in the form of psychubes and the RE4 briefcase organization thing.
If the only pandering in the story and events ends up being yuri pandering it will just end up in EoS tbqh

Should I preregister? If I do, would that effect rerolling? I think rerolling in gacha can only be done in guest accounts or how does it work?
preregistrations are usually a community effort to unlock bonuses, and aren't tied to any actual pre-account unless a dev is extra stingy
so in most gachas you start with a guest account, can claim prereg goodies to help rerolling, then bind your account only after you get the reroll you want
if you're new to gacha i suggest not getting too hung up on rerolling because the process can burn you out before you even really play
Check out prydwen website, it is a good place for general gacha knowledge. People will meme on it because it's not always 100% up to date and has subjective tier lists but for general info there isn't anywhere better. As always just take everything with a grain of salt.

For what it's worth. I got in through the second wave CBT where there was no PC client and I had to use Testpilot on iOS. Could be different if you are using google/facebook accounts or are part of the first wave I guess.

there's guest account login on PC client. someone on discord said you can just login with guest then reroll and later link the guest account you want to to keep to your email
Well question is how easy/hard it is to get rid of said guest account. Some games for example require you to message support and then after a few days they delete it which makes it useless for rerolling.
I doubt they would go that far. My guess is guest account data is stored locally and you can wipe that folder to reroll.
The guest account can not be changed (as of now). We can see if there’ll be a delete account feature tomorrow.
For now the best reroll method is making new instances on emulators. Open your emulator, download the game, open the game and download the ingame stuff and close everything once that’s done. You’ll use that instance as your main one and clone it whenever you want to reroll. Opening the game from the cloned instances will give you a different guest account for each one.

you can reroll on android or pc just by clearing data, BUT you need to redownload the game every attempt.
ios hates its consumers and doesn't let you control your own device or data so the game stores an undeleteable guest id that stays even between uninstalls.
using salted emails instead of guest accounts works on all platforms.
to use guest accounts and NOT need to redownload the game, you need the emulator method -- download once, then clone the emulator image before making a guest account

Just very personal dislikes for how they're handling the story and which aspects of the lore they're focusing it on. I especially dislike the lore. If it was neutral to it I'd keep playing but it irks me too much so I had to tap out.

I'm going in completely blind but it looks like time travelling to different areas of humanity or some shit and considering the date (1999) it seems to be based on the millenium bug?
Also does anyone have a tier list for the starting units? Just to get a comfy start with strong units.

For one it's extremely well paced node to node and when a chapter concludes that story is concluded and it's they've all had satisfying endings. A big issue I've had ti with Arknights is how the story just keeps going when it had it's time to be done and just sorts of fizzle outs. They drop important details that are not given an important scene and only become relevant 3+ years later or dropping a bunch of lore all at once which makes it really feel like the writers have no idea on what to do with the main character so they just dump a bunch of info all at once instead of doing it organically through the years
So there's not a big overarching plot with villains messing up timelines or something? No big evil or final goal?
I don't want to spoil it but the story does have a main villain but it still manages to close down each chapter very strongly. There are small threads that don't go anywhere in that specific chapter but you've come out as if you've actually finished that story chapter, they don't keep throwing a couple dozen different plot threads, it's very focused.

Being behind in a gacha you care about anything other than the gameplay is hell. Since the gameplay isn't the star of the show the general is going to be torture where I have to side eye every post hoping to stop my brain from reading when I sense I'm about to be spoiled.

Nope, single player game with no competitive elements. Good thing is you can take your time and enjoy at your own pace no pressure. Bad thing is there is little incentive to care or stick around after you finish the one time content. I'm predicting the game will be super popular for a month or two like limbus and then dive of a cliff once the average player finishes the content.
It has an "Abyss" like genshin that changed every 2 weeks so that's the end game for now.

Feels like it's not going to matter a hill of beans. I can't imagine you won't be able to beat the content with almost any team. I usually roll for cute and meta girls but I'm actually thinking about rolling for the knight because what does it matter and it's something different for a change.

You're guaranteed to get a cute A/S-tier DPS from the beginner banner anyway, they can pick up the slack if you ever get tired of Knight.
Just looking at the tier lists, Medicine Pocket or An-an seem like the real reroll bait, but I didn't bother with the beta to be able to say.
You roll for druvis centurion to open. All 3 starters are okay lilya is the best later on eternity carries her element for 4 months or so until elbow check pajeeta. Regulus is okay if hyperfocused.
Melania +2 is heaven and earth from +0, tooth fairy +2/+5 is obscene. Shamane needs +5 to be a dps, +0 is still solid debuffer. Pajeeta elbows are usable at +0, +1 +2 open up a maldy way of playing the game where you start fishing white majority ults which probably isn't viable up til you have more units that give extra gauge to party.
Practically every 6star is usable aside from newbabel which is kind of a joke up until you can have her be the primary eureka activator 5 months into the game for 37.
Optimal reroll is probably Druvis + Lilya + Bjornblume(5star). If you don't want to roll melania and you want to +2 tooth fairy add centurion. If you want to do the poison team and use schneider's funny postcard get sotheby too.

Tooth fairy is meta warping. You used to stack ATK but with tooth fairy crit gains a lot more mileage. 0 tooth fairy is a minigame of bursting/ulting on odd turns. 2 pot tooth fairy is just ungabunga crits till the cows go home

it rly depends on what team you want to build so I recommend checking out the team building guide over anyting else and then decide what you wanna do. also this game like OP says is VERY focused on storytelling - lots of dialogue and lore, so you might end up wanting certain characters purely out of those reasons over gameplay

From doing a little bit of research it seems that Centurion is generally the best character to reroll for. Really strong now and is still one of the best characters on the CN version right now. Sotheby is the other best reroll for the long term but isn't really good until we get Changeling but thats 2-3 months away. Not sure if this is 100% accurate so please take it with a grain of salt. If anyone has more/better information please share.

Yeah, the story reads like the roughest part of Arknights' translations, but at least with Arknights the story they're trying to tell is pretty decent. I'm near the end of chapter 2 and I'm having a hard time understanding what exactly is happening. The tonal shifts and and unclear motives of literally anybody (along with half a dozen different companies/organisations that are all interlinked) is hard to keep track of.
From what I've gathered:
In 1999, time started going "backwards". It's not really backwards, but more that time jumps back to a moment then it goes forward from that moment until another moment (the Storm), and then jumps again.
Most people don't seem to notice, but as Timekeeper you notice and part of your job is to kidnap people who are also Storm resistant. The prologue is set during the 1960s in the UK and references the famous pirate radio boats that broadcasted unlicensed radio stations from international waters. You're kidnapping the DJ, Regulus. Sonetto is your companion, but you also have a secret agenda.
Next you jump to the Valentine's Day Massacre of 1929, which in this universe was the massacre of magic-users instead of Al Capone taking care of the competition. Then you meet Schneider who kills the normal people (thus altering the timeline), and she invites you to a club. At the club, you fight her, which somehow causes the 1929 stock market crash in February instead of October. The organisation she belongs to is altering the timeline for reasons unknown.
Schneider it turns out is being blackmailed because they have her sister hostage. She betrays them. There's a big fight. Most of the team escape, except you and Schneider. You fake-join the organisation and fake-kill Schneider. Meanwhile, people are eating money instead of food.

Yes, you don't know everything right away, but with every episode you get more and more of an idea of what's going on. It's an example of show, don't tell. This is good, because it doesn't make you feel like a fricking moron when the writers always explain the obvious.
Though perhaps it was a mistake for gacha doing this. People just rush for gacha reasons, and even if they don't they are used to shounen shit at best. There you always know who is the bad guy, as they are obviously doing bad things, and everything is simple. This is clearly for a more mature audience that would enjoy actual writing, something you really don't see much in gacha.
Not to say that the story is super great, or the game. In fact, the gameplay is terrible, little more than RNG shit. But the entire thing is well presented. That is for sure.
Personally I don't think that's enough though. Enough to try it out for a few days, sure. But as an actual side gacha? So far I doubt that. I also don't see them earning enough to keep all their different voice acting and such going.

Time is reversing thanks to the storm and there's only a few places where you can be saved form the storm. The MC's luggage is one of those places.
The MC is trying to solve why the storm is happening and trying to save who she can save.
In the roaring 20's she met the Manus Vindictae, a group of magic terrorists hellbent on kickstarting the storm on different time periods so they can go back in time to do "Stuff". In the 20's Manus Vindictae try to get the MC into their side while also doing their usual evil stuff by fricking with the stocks so bad the Storm happens. Vertin tries to stop it and while it manages to foil the personal vendetta of one of the Manus Vindictae's agents Forget Me Not and recruit new allies to her cause, she is unable to stop the time period to be swallowed by the storm.
Then she is brought back and put into forced medical care by the organization she works for and that's when I stopped playing for the day
The problem is that it chugs a big one. It could've been saved by a copy editor to QC the writing. That ship has sailed because China is third world and are hapless. The game pitch is fine.

So there's this thing called "Storm" that resets time at xx point? but how does it work? what triggers it? how does it affect the world and the people? Do some people retain their memories/appearance/age after the reset when a certain conditions are met?
I guess everything about Storm will be answered way later, but what I'm confused about everything that happened so far and I don't understand any of these characters' (Schenider, Arcana, Piano Dude, their organization/henchmen, etc etc) motivation or relation to the Storm.

It's marvelous if you like pure rpgs. By pure I mean actually playing a role. Combat, if you choose to engage in it at all, is literally just another type of dialogue option. You can allocate so little points to your body at character creation that you become a turbo basedlet that has a heart attack when you sit in an uncomfortable chair

I'm quite intrigued about that, so far it feels like Vertin trying to make sense of things by having her inner thoughts ramble at her while she asks it inane questions. Kinda like the Disco Elysium protag like
mentioned. Shame you can't change the dialogue option you picked when re-reading it in the atlas though.
Equipment bullshit would be Psychubes. Though it's not tied to a gacha like FGO/Genshin. iirc a couple of threads back the CN server followers mentioned it used to be a weapon gacha that was added down the line in later patches but was entirely turned into grindables after massive backlash. The other possible one would be Resonance, but that's more jigsaw-tetris puzzle with an auto-solve and predetermined pieces instead of the hell that is GFL's tetris blocks.

How's my haul so far? I'm pretty happy, Knight (which I got two of) is amazingly strong and I got best girl Regulus and Tennant (which I got two of also). Loving this game so much.

Knight + Tennant + Bkorn seems to make for a very decent reality team, but I will admit that Tennat's VA kinda weirds me out at times and I can't quite put my finger on why
I'm only at Chapter 3, so maybe I've missed some new mechanics that will open up
But there's no equipment bullshit, no skill levelling and very few systems to actually upgrade the characters; compared to your average gacha game, this one is super basic when it comes to building up a team
To the point where I'm much more intrigued by the gameplay itself, and by finding viable team compositions, rather than by reading a crock of metaphorical ramblings that will MAYBE be relevant in the future
The story events themselves could be relatively simple, but they're presented in such a way that you need to double take a lot of lines just to understand what a character is actually talking about

This giant lady was insanely difficult with pre-Insight lineup, I wonder if Ch.3 and Ch.4 bosses are gonna be difficulty spikes as well.
I just finished Chapter 3 and the spike isn't as bad... I think? Then again, you are raising 7 instead of my 4. There was a 10 level jump in recommended levels from stage fight to boss fight like Chapter 2 but Chapter 3 is still within Insight 1 limits.

I'm on 3-5 right now and my strongest units is only Insight 1-25 then 1 Insight 1-20, then 5 Insight 1-10.
I used to have 5 only, but I added 2 that specialized in reducing enemy movement star and endure a fatal damage.
I hope 4-man battles would become a norm later on, it's much more fun that way.
I think you can ignore the element match-up early on. I'm just building a team of 3: Lilya for damage, Sonetto for buffs, and Dikke for healing. Even on match-ups where I'm supposedly weak they seem to manage just fine so far (I've finished chapter 3 normal mode and hard modes through the first few stages in chapter 3).
I might be coping but the English text in Chapter 4 (which wasn't available on the CBT) seems much better compared to the previous chapters. I was worried that they would only start improving the translation after the India chapter or some shit.

I can't tell whether it's supposed to be pretentious or chuuni but it's all fun as frick. These segments really shine presentation wise while also being unique in being a pseudo movie portion in what is essentially a classic VN format.
They gotta fix the timing though. More than once I have to check the logs because they skipped the line before it finishes displaying. And it only happens more and more often as these speeches/songs/auto progress portions become more prevalent.

This is shared across all banners, so if you get An-An Lee as an off-banner 6*, you know 100% for a fact that the next time you pull on Knight the only 6* you can get is Knight, if you pull on Sotheby you can only get Sotheby, if you want to guarantee Pickles or Tooth Fairy you can stop pulling now and when their banners come around you're guaranteed that your 6* from those banners will be Pickles/Tooth Fairy
Bkorn is top tier and better than a lot of 6*s. Very synergistic skills, very powerful debuffs, high multipliers, Ultimate is useful whether the enemy negates Seal or not.
Matilda is trash. On her own, her skills don't synergize with herself since she has no buffs to activate her Proud Star, and she can't even make up for her lower power by stacking dupes because even in version 1.5 there's still no way to get any dupes. And even if she could get dupes, her Portrays aren't even that good, you'd expect her ultimate would get up to at least 650% if not 800% but nope it's just more crit rate.
Tennant is a solid jack of all trades, a shield for party survivability, solid single target damage, and a good debuff. Unfortunately her debuff doesn't stack with Bkorn's and it's tied to her ultimate while Bkorn's is tied to her skill, but it is a higher number so you'll be dealing more damage.

A Knight, Eternity, and Voyager are my main 3, occasionally subbing in (much lower levelled) Baby Blue, APPLe, Sonetto, Eagle, and Leilani.
Saving up everything for Tooth Fairy, then probably either Changeling or save up for Shamane or 6. Also hoping for a Bkorn or 2 on Tooth Fairy

English since that's what the game's original CN release uses.
Sometimes the wording is a little clunky while JP is tighter since it's natively translated rather than ESL translated, but JP misses out on all of the foreign accent and foreign language SOVL.
JP Lilya doesn't have a Russian accent or throw in Russian phrases, JP Matilda doesn't speak exclusively in French in private, etc.
