the core game is ok but what you're really paying for is for easy workshop access which is where the real content is
if you want to pirate it instead get modupdater for easy workshop downloading
Sims 4 AI is so shit that the sims will literally kill themselves when left in a house with unbreakable appliances and infinite money. With RimWorld if you disable raids and have a sustainable colony you could run it indefinitely.
i've been mildly interested in this game forever but it never goes on sale by any meaningful amount and i just can't spend that much money on a wild dive i know nothing about
It's considerably less complex/in-depth than Dwarf Fortress in exchange for being a lot easier to get the hang of, and also has interesting real time tactical combat that can get really fun with mods and sets the game apart as being a bit more action focused.

It's a bigger timesink than sims so that should be an indication if it's worth it. Requires more autismo tho.

Way more. But at least you have direct control. Pops in RW do what's needed if you prioritize correctly.
