    its the opposite of that.
I hope they are firing all the woke lesbians to appease shareholders personally.

opposite, they fired a bunch of the actual workers who have created content for them, because now they're just going to iteratively generate new designs based on them with AI, all that's gonna be left are the brainless DEI recruits because that's all they need, everything else can be run with a handful of staff.

Glad riot forge got fricked, they released 0 good products, and ruined king took almost a year after it was supposed to be out to finally launch and it was a 1:1 engine clone of battlewars nightchasers.

      they have over 5000 employees.
5000 employees for League and Valorant.
They could stand to downsize 50% and have very few problems except for the heaps of dosh they would retain yearly from not paying a bunch of useless laborers.

CS had replays back in 1999. Unreal Engine literally has support for it. The game was made from the ground up to be the super esports chink counter strike competitor.
People should stop buying skins and ask for one and I guarantee that Riot would pump it out in like a month.

My guy the entire pro scene has asked for this since the game came out.
Riot is just lazy and figured that why add actual features into the game when they can remove game modes and add 100 dollar skins instead.

I just wanted to let you know that Riot couldn't add a replay system to League until like 2016. The earliest memories I have about the replays system was using someone else's 3rd party league app.

Again, as I said before, League was built by 3 dudes in a basement in 09 and wasn't built as a competitive game from the start. It simply morphed into one later, pretty quickly sure, but it certainly didn;t start out as such.
Valorant was marketed and designed as a competitive game.

Bro, Dota-clones/ASShomosexualS/MOBAS or whatever are competitive by nature since the WC3 map days, and the dev team size doesn't really matter. Just said the little tidbit about when/how long it took League to get a replay system even with all the manpower Riot had in 2016. We're just agreeing on the same thing: Riot is and always was moronic and somehow can't manage to get a "simple" feature implemented despite hiring a bunch of programmers.

riotdrones are used to swallowing shit, league has also lacked basic features for a decade now and they don't care about it

League at the very least was initially made by 3 dudes in a basement and I'd imagine the technical debt is fricking massive, so I can understand a little bit. Valorant on the other hand was made from the ground up to be the "better and more competitive" CS and be a major esports title, so lacking basic features expected of such in a modern game is absolutely unforgivable.

project F is more likely cancelled, Project L is probably going to flop

Project L has a lot of shit going on behind the scenes rn. Apparently a lot of positions opened for it so its a long way away. Game looks ok. League also has an MMO on top of this.

this is just the point where they amputate all the areas that didn't work (games that never made it out of the planning stage, probably the mmo too) and things that weren't as succesful as they expected (forge).

I think it's more likely to be a helper tool than a full on replacement. I used it a bit to help me through some bugs and with a quick algorithm I couldn't be fricked writing (ended up having to make minor adjustments to it but it wasn't important). It works wonders in "what the frick am I doing wrong? ctrl+v" situations tbh.

            >I think it's more likely to be a helper tool than a full on replacement.
Yeah pretty much. Any company that is foolish enough to try and replace all dev work with AI will quickly find themselves 10 feet deep in unmanageable, unravelable shit.
The problem is that it's not even very good for assisting anymore (chatGPT at least), because as I said it can very confidently hallucinate untrue shit that can send you on a tangent which will waste your entire day. Maybe if it output some kind of confidence level for each token, it would be more useful.

              >because as I said it can very confidently hallucinate untrue shit that can send you on a tangent which will waste your entire day
Yeah, as you said earlier you need to know what you want output, if you know that then you can immediately discern whether the answer you got was helpful.
For my algorithm example I wanted something that'd go through all the nodes of a metadata tree and print them, it turned out it was missing a small section so it wouldn't print absolutely everything (iirc it was missing nodes that had attributes), but that was quickly fixed since I had a good idea of what needed to be there. If I trusted it unquestionably then things would've been much harder.

You don't understand what programmers actually do, writing code is like 3% of their work
It's like saying architects will lose their job because someone invented a brick laying robot

Current AI models require you to know the exact outcome you need, at which point you can just write it yourself in the same time it takes to write your prompt kek

It doesn't matter, the problem is that the way current AI models work is that they don't understand it's output just try to guess what you want
Let's assume the tech advances and it has 100% success rate giving you ALWAYS the correct output to the point it doesn't even need to be doublechecked it STILL wouldn't be able to replace programmers

Let's take something basic, List vs IEnumerable, ffirst of all the AI doesn't know why you would use one over the other, secondly if it somehow managed to know (impossible for the current way these models are designed) you would need to include the entire project AND all future additions to the project in your prompt for it to actually get it correct

tldr: if AI was able to lay ever brick, lay wires, do the plumbing, etc you would still need an architect to prompt it, and unllike art where every single human can describe an image you need to actually understand how houses are build...but unlike building houses writing code is piss easy and super fast making AI useless

Do note that there still are use cases for AI, as a shittier form of stackoverflow (co-pilot) and to prompt it for ideas

I avoided using gpt to code for a while but when I tried it I also had this same experience. Small things it was nice, but more complicated questions it reminded me of talking to very early AI where it would just repeat/reword it's answer like a moron. people talking about ai overtaking dev jobs don't understand either.

tldr: if AI was able to lay ever brick, lay wires, do the plumbing, etc you would still need an architect to prompt it, and unllike art where every single human can describe an image you need to actually understand how houses are build...but unlike building houses writing code is piss easy and super fast making AI useless

Do note that there still are use cases for AI, as a shittier form of stackoverflow (co-pilot) and to prompt it for ideas

You anons better not be trolling me.
Many turbo tech/code wizards are saying it's basically over and we should pursue other things.

Eh, I'm personally struggling to see if I should get into game deving or being a 3d graphics guy too. My current workplace wants me to do other things like automation which is also ok but not that interesting (can try to climb for money though). Made a 3d modelling tool sometime ago where I 3d printed models made off it, stagnant since due to the work. UE is the current hype.

I hear UE6 will use a new language called "Verse" so I'm not even sure if C++ will be that valuable anymore.

Programming is a lot more sought after as there is extreme shortage of good cooders, emphasys on the "good" word. These jobs are mostly done by pajeets who make poocode, which is why essentially every software sucks dicks now as all they can do is shitty smartphone esque apps.

Still better than indian, as you have an army of low IQ people, in coding. Hence so many programs suck dick now and resemble android apps. Just be careful around them.
3d stuff is less stable, and sought after for jobs as its still under the artsy-fartsy department, but if you can pull it off, try to do it imo

                >There are literally 'white people programmer' type jobs, who make sure the poocode is more or less in a shippable state.
aka you're a poorly paid code janny.

Not poorly paid at all, as you need to have actual knowledge they do not posess to fix their mistakes. Adobe and microshit has been doing this for years. But again thats up to you how much you want to actually work with them.

I've checked the rioters that were laid off on reddit, most of them are concept artists and writers like i've guessed.

They're just digging themselves deeper into debt like most companies, its not abnormal for a company to have debt it happens all the time but I think its more of how much and how they spin it when it comes to explaining that debt to shareholders. The growth in gaming (as in, console/PC gaming) has been severely blown out of proportion due to smartphone shit. Actual AAA gaming has actually fricking plateaued around like 2020, even with all the GaaS and the increase in game prices.

Are you kidding? Their entire plan very blatantly rests on them manipulating gullible leftists internationally and giving them an excuse to riot and wreck stuff.
Don't just take it from me, take a look at any pro-Palestine rally, look who's participating, and look at their tactics.

                Anonymous

Their entire plan is based on exposing israel's actions to the international community with the hopes that countries with actual power can do something about them, it has nothing to do with those degenerate homosexuals.

                Anonymous

Their entire plan is to flood lefties brains with staged images and false outrage, which gives them an excuse to riot and loot. It's BLM all over again, except this time it's in support of a group that would summarily execute all of them.
Again, you don't need to take my word on it when you can look out the window.

                Anonymous

It has nothing to do with leftists, and the outrage from Palestine absolutely isn't false I don't know why you'd pretend that it is, did you get it mixed up with the accusations israel is making? Those are absolutely false and are reminiscent of a certain hoax they perpetuate.
Why would I take your word for it when the logic doesn't follow at all? The fact leftists are protesting doesn't mean that them attaching troony shit to freeing Palestine was the goal for Palestinians.
I don't know why you brought up BLM, it has nothing to do with this situation.

                Anonymous

I don't know what the situation is like in your country, but here in the US there's a 99% overlap between BLM rioters and pro-Palestine rioters.
It has everything to do with leftists because here the leftists are the primary non-Muslim supporters of Hamas, which I think we can both agree is weird given their murderous treatment of homosexuals and trans in their territory.

What's the point, DoA already has the micropurchase scam down by selling costume 'sets' and not individual costumes, so you're paying $20~$30 for one costume on your main.

Esports wise, League has lost a lot of western interest but still big in korea/china.
Dota2 is dying off due to a few bad patches and burnout in general. Valorant is going the same way as overwatch- it was only going to have a short term popularity due to how shit it is to watch in general with all the over the top effects.
          >With csgo being dead and nothing but a font for gambling
CSGO is dead period. The market has hard crashed with CS2 and the game changes just fricked CSGO pros over. Valve saw what sega did with PSO2 and decided to do that, they intentionally wanted to kill CSGO.

This mode kicks fricking ass. I would buy a standalone version if it existed. It's so good it's a tragedy Riot pissed away their fricking time trying to make a subpar PVP game when their mechanics are THIS fun for a PVE roguelite mode. Especially play it if you've ever had any goodwill towards Hearthstone's dungeon-run-style modes because this dumpsters all of those
They didn't just say they were long-term-sustainability'ing LoR, they said all future development, what little of it there is, would be towards Path of Champions, because it's so good it basically sucked up the entire playerbase.

Frankly killing or reducing the "riot forge" shit is a great idea
The games have been pretty shitty.
From picrel i have played Ruined King, Song of nunu, and Mageseeker and the three of them have been bland as frick.

Ruined king was simply a downgrade from that devs previous game Battle Chasers, its the same game with a "three lane" gimmick added that doesn't really fit the game mechanics and worse skills less interesting dungeons and forgettable bosses

Song of Nunu had quite a bit of soul but thats it, the game played like ass the combat sections were boring and obviously just slapped onto the game cause it couldnt just be platforming/exploration/puzzles the flute mechanic was cool

    Mageseeker was a dumpster fire.

      >too many games
Riot themselves only have like 5 games, LoL, LoR, TFT, Valorant, Wild Rift. Riot Forge was headed by Riot but developed by third party devs (also only has about 5 games).
Considering Riot's net worth is estimated to be $26 billion (as of april 2022), that's $5.2 billion per game they developed (or $2.6 billion per game total). Obviously a company being valued at X doesn't mean they spend X on Y, but it should give you a general idea of how much they have to/can spend. To get an even better idea, their annual revenue is >$1 billion.
Honestly, I'd be asking where the frick the money's going. there's no way they spend even 10% of that annual income every year on developing games (including the marketing/skins/etc side of it).

If the union does what it's supposed to do then there's nothing wrong with them, specifically for full time workers as opposed to contract shit. Problem is the leadership has a habit of entrenching themselves so union leaders make a boatload and then completely ignoring your interests (or worse, actively fricking you over).
As for the voice actor thing, I dunno what the issue is but if it's that their voices are being used for AI without their permission then that sounds like a problem that's been solved decades ago with an actors likenesses requiring permission and compensation.

          Anonymous

While current LLMs might face limitations in understanding the nuanced aspects of coding, it's essential to acknowledge the ongoing advancements in AI technology. Researchers are actively working on enhancing AI models to go beyond syntax and grasp the deeper logic, domain expertise, and problem-solving skills required in programming.

They are. But capitalism wants exponential growth until critical failure. Mass lay offs allow shareholders to make more money RIGHT NOW, which is more important than tomorrow. And shareholders are more important than anything else, because they have the capital and therefore all the power. That's why it's called capitalism, not goodproductsandlongtermthinkingism.
