Automata and it was mostly thanks to Yoko Taro and setting, because it was one of their weaker combat systems.
And there are people who enjoyed Astral Chain and Bayo 3.
>Automata
What’s good about it? The first one sucked balls, I played it for like 10 hours & it was just a bunch of random weird japanese shit with jank everywhere, fricking boring.
Thanks, I never seen anybody actually explain why they liked it just that they liked it. Well that & the loose main character of course but I figured there had to be more to it.
Kamiya left, which means that 2 most important figures (first one being Mikami) who created the studio are now gone.
The current execs and CEOs basically admit they want to pursue money, GaaS titles and shit. It's basically over for the studio. There is no solid talent left.
It's worth to mention that last game directed by Kamiya was W101, which is arguably their last "great" game. Everything after was kind of underwhelming with maybe the exception of Automata.
Automata and Astral Chain were their last good games. The studio will be better without Kamiya.
yeah the fanbase is just so big. Theres just so many platinum games threads. Everyone just cant stop talking about platinum games. ugh, i just cant even
They stopped being obnoxious since like 2014 or something. Hell, even when Nier Automata came out and hyped up, Platinumgays were already mellowed out.

Well, if we're lucky, maybe Nintendo will look into scooping up some of their talent and making an internal action game studio at this point. They seem to care enough about Astral Chain and Bayonetta, even if they only manage to scratch 1M on release.
>There is no solid talent left.
There is, there are still good Clover vets there and even a couple young directors like Tinari & Taura (I don't like Taura's stuff but I'm not the majority on that). It's just that Kamiya of all people leaving is a really bad sign; I'm willing to bet Rhett wanted to make Project GG heavily monetized and he realized this wasn't the company he founded anymore.
>The current execs and CEOs basically admit they want to pursue money, GaaS titles and shit. It's basically over for the studio. >There is no solid talent left.
This is news to me. Welp, rip. I hope the Clover folks get their chance to shine elsewhere.
It wasn't an insane masterpiece, but it was a solid 8 that looked great especially for the switch. Far better than most switch exclusives, and even than most pc games.
For example it would've been my 2023 goty if it released this year if not for ac6
It sorely needs a sequel where they iterate on the systems, mechanics, and concepts. I didn't think it was a particularly well executed on but the framework for a cool game was there.
Most first installments for any new IPs starting out, are basically proof of concepts for everyone involved starting out. A sequel if it's fortunate to get one, is where things can really get going.
I think the real reason Nintendo wanted full ownership is so they could turn it into a game much larger in scope. Nintendo probably wants their version of big open world city games like GTA and Astral Chain could easily be turned into that.
I love Astral Chain. It's got problems but they really only become apparent when you're digging deep into system mechanics. The first time experience is fantastic and even the second one is great.
Kamiya hasn't made a game in a decade, he's just an admin/promo guy now.
Losing him means absolutely nothing, because in the Japanese industry, the oldesy employee will just rise up to take his position. >maybe the exception of Automata.
Automata was brilliant.
And Astral Chain was a great game too.
Bayo 3 & Origins are good. Babylon, based on the demo because I wasn't going to pay money, is the worst game they've made by a long shot though, genuine 2/10 game.
Bayonetta's idol has always been her mother. Given the rather matronly attributes she shows in all four games, it's clear she takes after her kind, responsible parent quite a bit more than first impressions let on.
Yurigays have been worse than fujos for some time now due to how eager progressive pop culture is to throw lesbians into anything for quick, easy brownie points. Thus they aren't just 'moronic, angry fans', they're moronic, angry fans who feel entitled due to constantly getting validation.
Good riddance, the company started out strong but after that they put out twice as many turds as they had hits, it's clear they somehow lost all game making skill along the way.
Nintendo should just buy them out and put them to work on action spinoffs of their various IPs. Lord knows they're not gonna last much longer on their own.
I genuinely think Nintendo WAS weighing an acquisition at some point, probably around the time we got Astral Chain and Bayo 3's announcement. Feel they realized the writing was on the wall later on, however. Nintendo is known to purge specific developers in many cases, and while Platinum around its prime would have been worth buying outright in its current state it would likely be a waste of money. It's becoming clear the developer's issues now go deeper than just poor publisher oversight.
If Nintendo is acquiring anything big in the near future, it's likely the chunk of Square Enix that develops relevant JRPGs since I don't see how that could be replicated even beyond all the IPs being potentially lost. Platinum may have been nice to fill out the action genre, but if there's too much baggage Nintendo isn't going to bite.
I'm not so sure. They did buy the Astral Chain IP outright. If I had to guess, Platinum is making a sequel for the Switch 2. Gotta remember that Nintendo only really buys developers as a last resort. They prefer working partnerships. They also had the opportunity to buy Rare, Silicon Knights, Factor 5 and N-Space yet they didn't.
>I'm not so sure. They did buy the Astral Chain IP outright. If I had to guess, Platinum is making a sequel for the Switch 2.
While not off the table, I still am uncertain on Platinum's general direction right now. If it's not changing that much then I could certainly believe this, but if there are major shifts internally then I could see the full acquisition of Astral Chain being partially done for future-proofing the IP. Shows Nintendo likely wants to keep it around. Just a question of how Platinum will be involved in that, much as it sounds sacrilege to imagine them not being involved.
Considering that Nintendo is reviving Another Code using ex-Cing staff, it wouldn’t surprise me if they hired on former Platinum devs in an internal studio to make an Astral Chain sequel
What was the last good game they even made?
Automata and it was mostly thanks to Yoko Taro and setting, because it was one of their weaker combat systems.
And there are people who enjoyed Astral Chain and Bayo 3.
platinum should just merge with Yoko. Perfect paring
>Yoko Taro
>good
you have no rights to an opinion
Yoko saved the company once. Have some respect.
he's a hack that should've lost his career decades ago if it weren't for his sugardaddy at square
>Automata
What’s good about it? The first one sucked balls, I played it for like 10 hours & it was just a bunch of random weird japanese shit with jank everywhere, fricking boring.
The story and the soundtrack.
Thanks, I never seen anybody actually explain why they liked it just that they liked it. Well that & the loose main character of course but I figured there had to be more to it.
Yeah, the soundtrack's great
The story is also great, but I don't want to spoil it
Infinite space
And that's simply because it was a collab
Cereza and the Lost Demon is incredible. Future cult classic, horde a physical copy.
>no one left at Platinum to shoehorn in shitty shmup segments in every game
IT'S NOT FRICKING FAIR
Bayo 3
they ever made a good game? LOL
I RIP a fart right in Kakamiya's stupid face
Automata and Astral Chain were their last good games. The studio will be better without Kamiya.
Metal Gear Rising
Bayo3.
Astral Chain
Astral Chain and, surprisingly, Cereza were both quite solid. Bayo 3 is alright, but disappointing overall.
Last great game? Automata over six years ago.
I'd argue that Astral Chain is legitimately great at points. But then again anime cyberpunk is the exact type of shit that gets me hyper fixated.
Anarchy Reigns
Wonderful 101. Saying Nier is stealing Yoko Taro valor.
Good question. Nier Automata was taken over by Square Enix and developed off site.
Last good game was Nier Automata.
Last truly GREAT game was The Wonderful 101.
Given how obnoxious its fanbase is, good riddance.,
>obnoxious
I'd rather deal with all Platinumgays than a single Fromdrone.
No one is talking about From Software. Why are you bringing them?
>Muh Fromsoftware
way to prove him right lol
Proved him right
name one fanbase that isn't obnoxious, I'll wait
Again, we aren't talking about other fanbases; we're talking about Platinum's and how the company's demise is deserved due to said obnoxious fanbase.
How would you feel if you didn't eat breakfast today?
But I did eat breakfast
>people should lose their jobs because people that they've never met are dickheads
>Still trying to deflect
Thanks for proving my point.
Their products giving birth to said dickheads make them responsible so yeah, they should.
Again, name just one fanbase that isn't obnoxious, still waiting.
Killing Floor, Fatal Frame, Castlevania, Samurai Showdown, King of Fighters
yeah the fanbase is just so big. Theres just so many platinum games threads. Everyone just cant stop talking about platinum games. ugh, i just cant even
Nobody can stop talking about MGR and Nier Automata
there isnt a single mgr thread in the archive right now
What the frick are you even talking about, homosexual
They stopped being obnoxious since like 2014 or something. Hell, even when Nier Automata came out and hyped up, Platinumgays were already mellowed out.
With the exception of Bayonetta Yuri fans.
>Project G.G never ever
This is the biggest thing one for me too. I wanted a Tokusatsu game.
You'll get over it, Matt.
>only media was a rendered concept video with no gameplay
It never really existed.
It became bayo 3
What happen? Studio's still going.
Kamiya left, which means that 2 most important figures (first one being Mikami) who created the studio are now gone.
The current execs and CEOs basically admit they want to pursue money, GaaS titles and shit. It's basically over for the studio. There is no solid talent left.

W101 sucked ass though.

Astral Chain is a great game and I will die on this hill
Good, not great.
It wasn't an insane masterpiece, but it was a solid 8 that looked great especially for the switch. Far better than most switch exclusives, and even than most pc games.
For example it would've been my 2023 goty if it released this year if not for ac6
It would've been 2019's actual GOTY had DMC5 not released the same year, but it's easily better than "AC"6.
It sorely needs a sequel where they iterate on the systems, mechanics, and concepts. I didn't think it was a particularly well executed on but the framework for a cool game was there.

I'll be right beside you brother. That games amazing
Sexkaki
I love Astral Chain. It's got problems but they really only become apparent when you're digging deep into system mechanics. The first time experience is fantastic and even the second one is great.
Kamiya hasn't mattered in PG for over a decade and he was never talented to begin with.
>he was never talented to begin with.
Literally created the character action genre.
It was created despite him not because of him, he was opposed to animation cancels and jumping, he wanted it to be more like Onimusha.
>3rd person hack n slashers didn't exist prior to DMC
this is the weeb brain rot I keep talking about
>he was never talented to begin with
>DMC
>Okami
>Viewtiful Joe
>Bayonetta
>Wonderful 101
Yeah, suuuure.
Stop spoiling the narrative!
Kamiya hasn't made a game in a decade, he's just an admin/promo guy now.
Losing him means absolutely nothing, because in the Japanese industry, the oldesy employee will just rise up to take his position.
>maybe the exception of Automata.
Automata was brilliant.
And Astral Chain was a great game too.
>the oldesy employee will just rise up to take his position
And who would that be? Miyata? He ruined Bayonetta 3 already.
Sol Cresta was last year
They made some good games but also they shat out Babylon's Fall and Bayo 3 so
Bayo 3 & Origins are good. Babylon, based on the demo because I wasn't going to pay money, is the worst game they've made by a long shot though, genuine 2/10 game.
I just want a MGR remaster for consoles before they die.
Or you could just play the PC version.
STOP ASKING ME TO BUILD A PC I DON'T HAVE ROOM IN MY HOUSE REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Do you live in a closet?
>goes het
>goes broke immediately
Bayonetta 3 retcon incoming
>still malding
Bayo 4 will retcon 3
You've been crying for a year over a fictional character not being a lesbian. That's not healthy.
I never understood this characterization
Jeanne built a fashion empire over the century
Bayonetta took a nap
You'd think the roles would be relaxed.
Bayonetta's idol has always been her mother. Given the rather matronly attributes she shows in all four games, it's clear she takes after her kind, responsible parent quite a bit more than first impressions let on.
I think it's pretty cute, so I don't really care
The amount of moronic redditors and americans who cannot comprehend that people sometimes just live together, even total strangers, is insane to me.
Do you also sleep half-naked with them?
where exactly do you see them sleeping together
also
>never had/saw a filthy roommate
lmao
It's definitely implied
Ahahahahahahahahaha
Yuri fans are truly something
>Two women interacted for more than a couple seconds? They're totally lesbians and eat each other out every night
I have the Bayonetta 1 art book that picture comes from, along with the commentary text that accompanies it. It isn’t.
I used to think fujos were the most obnoxious shippers out there, but you endlessly seething fricks have definitely taught me otherwise.
Taught you otherwise? What exactly do you mean by that?
Yurigays have been worse than fujos for some time now due to how eager progressive pop culture is to throw lesbians into anything for quick, easy brownie points. Thus they aren't just 'moronic, angry fans', they're moronic, angry fans who feel entitled due to constantly getting validation.
100% ESG loving execs hated that Bayo was straight so they kicked Kamiya out.
RIP what? Did something happen?
Read the thread you illiterate ape.
Good riddance, the company started out strong but after that they put out twice as many turds as they had hits, it's clear they somehow lost all game making skill along the way.
All style, no substance
Only decent games they made was the first Bayonetta and Vanquish.
Bayonetta 2 is pretty good too
Not to mention Automata
This is what they get for not doing anything with MadWorld
They developed Anarchy Reigns.
OMGKAMIYAKAMIYAHUBBAHUBBAHUBBA HOOBA HOOBA HOOBA KAMIYA KAMIYA HUBBA HUBBA MORE MORE MORE KAMIYA KAMIYA
>mfw platinum hasnt made a single good game in its entire lifespan
Get fricking rekt troonynetta trannies
Maybe they'll retcon Bayonetta 3 and restore the canon relationship of Cereza and Jeanne as lesbian lovers.
C O P E
It was canon. Bayonetta 2 was a fricking romance between the two.
N O P E
Wonderful 101 was Kamiya's best game with the company.
Nintendo should just buy them out and put them to work on action spinoffs of their various IPs. Lord knows they're not gonna last much longer on their own.

One could say that Platinum lost its luster
>BLUNDER RED YOU MUST FRICK MY SISTER!
FRICKING OOOOOOOOOWWWWWNNNNNED
The Astral Chain MC is cute.
Never should have worked with Nintendo. Total waste of money.
Their best selling games minus Automata were their Nintendo projects.
which sold worse than anything they put out pre-nintendo. lmao.
They didn't have a choice though
They've burned bridges with every publisher out there
It feels weird that the next Platinumgames game is not gonna be made by them after all the staff that left:
What the hell happened to that game? Platinum was supposedly funneling the development money into their own projects or something like that
