Slop and Fall of Reach is still one of the better novels. FoR and Reach contradict each other but FoR is not as great as people make it seem. It is a mix of Ender's Game and Lord of the Flies but very tones down at the beginning and just some background to the ONI being generally shitty people.
I think the books is what inspired 343i to make more lore accurate content but it was like a monkey's paw wish since their era books suck and Halo lore was always very light, and almost not worth delving into, trying to explain things like the Forerunners was a massive mistake.
It is the vidya equivalent to Star Wars almost 1:1
Original Trilogy is considered the GOAT.
Reach is Rogue One
The Sequel Trilogy is fricking terrible with the 2nd entry almost killing the series on its own and the last entry desperately tried to cash in on nostalgia to lure in fans back.
There is no equivalent to the prequel trilogy since ODST and Halo Wars series were good. Spartan Strike / Assault are mediocre and very sub-par but I have seen worse.
I just want to eventually explore a whole halo ring someday bros. Something like microsoft flight simulator but on halo, complete with all the in game locations.
