Rise of the Ronin

>Mixes the best parts of Nioh and Wo Long as evolution of the Souls-like Team Ninja format
>Return to form with human enemies that Team Ninja does best rather than giant boring monsters
>Seamlessly merging ranged and melee combat with moder deliberate pacing and use of verticality/grapple
>Large open world with stealth, quests, and fun traversal
>Nobody cares and it has been overshadowed by Kojislop "Strand type" Walking Simulator and Dragon's Dogma 2

Wo Long just came out. Why were Team Ninja working on two nearly identical projects at the same time?

allegedly wo long was mostly made by a b team while this was their main project. Even if it's true it would still be better to make the whole studio work on one big game imo

This. If it weren't for Dragon's Dogma 2 being properly hyped up and promoted by Capcom, I might have actually pre-ordered this too. But I didn't even know this game was being made until recently.

I'll definitely get it one day, but probably after I've finished DD2.

it's still japan slop and 80% reused assets and animations. the game will 100% bomb, but hey, they got sony's money guarantee as a lifeline so whatev

idk, they peaked at nioh 2 and just fell apart after that. even a nioh 3 would be worrisome since they admitted they have ZERO creativity to take the series further since they can't leech off historic shit as a baseline.

There is no such thing as a souls-like. Every souls game is a blatant rip-off of Ninja Gaiden. If you don't believe me, just play it.
Ninja Gaiden did it much earlier, and better. It's a Gaiden-like, and who made that? OH YEAH TEAM NINJA.
Team Ninja makes a Team Ninja game, wow so insightful. Nioh 2 has the best gameplay in any game ever.
Now if only it wasn't a piss5 exclusive.

I was just about to agree with you, that dark souls has no combat.
I was a fromtard for many years before I looked into Team Ninja's catalog.
Level designs, enemy types, bosses, boss mechanics, and more are lifted directly from Ninja Gaiden into fromsoft games, except the combat is made very boring. It's simplified for journos and pre-teens. It's like the iphone of combat.
Play Ninja Gaiden, you will see exactly what I mean.

Combat looks like shallow garbage. Team Ninja Souls combat in general was always kinda overrated but it shows now that all you are left with in 3 flavours of 1 handed sword slashes and 2 MAs so you can play the reaction game.
Looks like they completely removed any spacing or arena management as the camera does a close up and kisses your opponent, still no use of walls and parkour and splatting enemies ala NG either.
If they at least went all the way into ARPG territory and let players choose more different and unique weapon combinations it would feel original, but the pistol is a gay consumable and rifle needs reloading

I just hope they don't throw moron amounts of garbage loot at you. Hope there's a set number of weapons that you can improve and customize at a blacksmith.

Elemental counter system that feels really unintuitive at first and kinda requires you multispec and set all kinds of spell types or prepare in advance. A nice idea to make spells in a melee focused game work, but needed more finetuning and was gimped by the horrid morale system. Since Niohgays don't understand anything but MOAR katana attack reskins and bloated pointless skill selection they instantly trashed the game as it defied their preconceived expectation of being Nioh 3 with a chinese coat of paint. Not that the game wasn't without massive issues, but not anymore than Nioh 1 or 2
Trash invasion system with awful. mechanics. They really half assed it just to say they also have an invasion system then abandoned it completely.

Rise of the Ronin will receive the same exact treatment and criticism, since it has the very same weapon skill use system as Wo Long, even though it was clearly changed to please the Nioh fanbase with an half assed flux system, stances instead of multiple weapon types and magic instantly

It's really dumbed down, full of pointless gimmicks like jumping and spells countering each other and completely unbalanced with 8 stones of penance instead of one to make your own difficulty because otherwise the lategame is braindead easy.

It's just boring amalgamation of exactly whatever is popular.
    >oh people like ER and RDR2 lets make it open world and have give the player shitty horseback traversal
    >also everybody loves BoTW and TotK so lets have a crappy glider too
    >can't forget Sekiro and Tsushima either so lets add a grapple and have the same barebones hide in tall grass "stealth" mechanics too
Nioh was a "soulslike" but I could at least still see Team Ninja in those games. I can't see any originality in this.

the best parts of Nioh and Wo Long as evolution of the Souls-like Team Ninja format
It literally looks likea mix of Sekiro and Ghost of Sushil, they even regressed to Sushi style stances when Nioh stances were far better.
    Stances in Nioh:
    >Well low stance is better for dodges and quick attacks, high stance is better for defence and hard hitting slow attacks but you can use anything you want 🙂
    Stances in Sushi:
    >MOON STANCE OR HAVE FUN NOT DEALING ANY DAMAGE TO ENEMY!

      Anonymous

Except that's literally how 90% of Nioh weapons works you moron. Everybody used high stance then swapped to low to use dashes. Low stance was fricking pointless because of how crippled the damage output/ranges were.
A lot of Nioh stance system was pointless or even detrimental to the gameplay. Any mechanic that makes you cherrypick your moveset through a swap without the tradeoff of actually selecting and sticking to weapons will inevitably lead to such boring optimization schemes where you plan around the utility you need rather than the moveset, then optimize the latter. A good example of stance system is the Kusarigama, which carried several disadvantages in both forms offensive moves. Most of them might as well have an high stance moveset and low stance dodge and spare me the hassle of fluxing

Being developed by Team Ninja has me hopeful, but I'm not enthusiastic about the Asscreed design elements. I'll be playing DD2 non-stop for a while, but if it turns out that it's not pandering to Westoids I'll pick it up later this year.
