Blade flash is a little weird in that it doesn't work lile a universal cancel like ki pulse in Nioh where once you do it, you're instantly back in "neutral" and can do whatever you want. Blade flash puts you into a little animation where you can't dodge or do basic attacks. However, martial skills and counterspark can cancel the animations and in those cases it's actually super smooth and allows you to pressure enemies really hard with the right sequencing.
Shuriken cancelling on the other hand does actually cancel your recover at the same time as blade flash but has much quicker recovery, allowing you to more quickly cancel the end of a move faster and immediately go into a dodge or block or attack or whatever.
The best part of having only human enemies is that all the grab skills work on everything
Being able to cancel is such a relief after their refusal to let you cancel anything in wo long.

Well you can spend a lot of time in the first chapter before you unlock it
There's actually only 3 chapters in the entire game. No wonder I spent so much time on chapter 1. Thought it was like Yakuza where there's at least 10+ chapters

I'm 18 hours in and still in Chapter 1. I've cleared every map now, and am just doing whatever sidequests have appeared before proceeding with the main story.

Really hope they add more sub weapon slots, i want to shurikan cancel but losing the revolver execution or rifle headshot spam is too heavy a price to pay
I think if the game just had a slight tweak to contrast and vividness it would look a lot better. I've been taking some of my screenshots and manually editing them in photoshop to do just that, like a 5% boost, and it suddenly makes the game seem a lot prettier. The colors in the game often feel a little washed out.
I really have no fricking idea what is going on with this 4th skill slot, sometimes the moves are shared across styles sometimes they aren't
