>no zombie providence boss/survivor RoR2 DLC
It hurts
Really baffling how Hopoo just completely abandoned RoR2 after only one DLC. It's like he realized it wasn't what he wanted maybe like halfway through EA, did a single DLC just so people couldn't say he didn't, then went on to remake RoR1. Returns looks great, but I love RoR2 a lot too. It just could have been a lot more and the mod scene isn't really there.
There is a microscopic bit of cope inside me that says RoR2 might get another DLC in the future.
It seems strange to make a deal with Gearbox and not have the game continue to be supported.
RIP consoles btw
>There is a microscopic bit of cope inside me that says RoR2 might get another DLC in the future.
trust the steamdb page brother
I dare to believe.
I got the game on console not knowing it had wholly different physics and difficulty, can't say I regret it either.
What the frick even happened with RoR2? It was fairly popular as a roguelike, then after a single expansion they fricked off with a remake of RoR1?
I like both games, but I find it very odd for Hopoo to drop RoR2 like hot garbage and immediately head for another game like that. Gungeon got three entire updates before it ended.
They probably came to terms with 2 having too many issues to fix or Hopoo just realized they enjoyed doing 2D games more. Probably the situation is tossing the bag to gearbox for 2 at this point.
What glaring issues would 2 have? It's been a while.
It's NOT FUN
RoR2 had one of the worst final levels in all of video games that completely turned its back on the entire design philosophy of the game
I thought it was a neat idea. It didn't work out very well though.
I admit the final stage was weaker that of 1, but I thought it was decent enough. It was really hard to top what was the RoR1 final stage.
But I don't consider a damnation. Can you explain what you didn't like about it?
They literally try to burn as much of your time as humanly possible without feather cheese. The scale of that stage is like 3 times that of any other stage in the game, the fact that you get no items at all unless you play with sacrifice means that you cant even risk more time to power up. The last boss taking your shit, while a somewhat neat and novel mechanic, does not remotely translate well and leaves a completely sour taste in my mouth considering the stage you have to play through to even get there. It feels like advanced suffering when playing as characters that are even less mobility inclined. If you want to circumvent the massively flawed design of this stage you just need to trade all of your items for 30 sodas, and honestly it just doesnt feel very good.
It is so painfully unfun that it honestly retroactively ruined my enjoyment of the rest of the game because if I dont want to just loop endlessly until I die I simply have to play through that piece of shit stage. While the last stage in RoR1 didnt win awards in terms of the time it took, the extra time you spent on that stage typically gave you a slew of items and chances are at least a handful of them would end up being pretty damn good. RoR2 is just large for the sake of being large. In monsoon runs where I speed through the game in like 15-20 minutes prior to the final stage, maybe even faster, I typically spend at LEAST that amount of time in the final stage, if not a bit more even prior to the final boss because of how it is designed
I'm not as frustrated as you are on the last level, but I mostly agree. The last stage just felt way too open. I think the first time I played it I was there for two hours wondering what the frick to even do (this was before they patched it to make it less shit).
The last boss taking your items is only super temporary. You quickly get them all back, and it's not as if the boss goes super sayian during it.
I also did feel the rewards in RoR1 final stage was better. You could choose to stack the odds in the final boss arena. Plus the entire theme of heading back to your ship and cleaning it out of stuff before facing the final boss is super neat.
Yeah, RoR1 gave you tons of Final Boss unique boons, the options to go to other parts to get a ton of items, etc. RoR2 is literally "do chores that take 5-10 minutes ABSOLUTE MINIMUM" before fighting the final boss. The final boss stealing your shit isnt that big of a deal but it is more the principle
literally sold out to gearbox, you can imagine the rest
From what I know its multiple things:
>Never have done 3D games before so barely understood how things would work
>Didn't know what they wanted to do causing really long update delays
>An absolutely disgusting amount of cut content (multiple bosses, characters, etc.) some of these were even finished and they still didn't add them
>Outright said they didn't like the new audience they got
>Refused to add content or ideas because it wasn't fun to them (this is why enforcer was never officially added, they said the playstyle was "boring"). This caused a small amount of backlash at the time probably souring their mood.
>Console port has been extremely difficult ever since its inception. I believe was being developed by Gearbox instead of Hopoo, and that they said the code was so bad they were remaking it from scratch.
>Small studio is suddenly extremely popular without warning and couldn't handle it
All of these things added up to them just outright dropping the game after the first expansion. I believe they simply couldn't get 3D right and just wanted to stop tbh. They should have made some other game to test 3D and make Risk of Rain 2 AFTER that with the knowledge they would have had. It's similar to Omori being remade like 20 times because it was the creators first game so they just kept scrapping stuff over and over again for years until it was finally out.
>(gearbox) they said the code was so bad they were remaking it from scratch.
God damn what a burn
Another few things:
>New DLC enemies scaled incorrectly compared with enemies of the same type and level count
>New DLC enemies did not have audio cues to the same degree as enemies with much lower scaling and danger
>All new areas were generally considered worse than ones that could spawn (this is in conjunction with the new enemies not scaling correctly)
>Generally unfavorable opinions on the difficulty and scaling of new DLC bosses
>Final level seemed rushed. Went through multiple changes and did not have all features currently there at launch.
>They did not seem to know how to balance the DLC items. Bens Raincoat was extremely important to obtain on release and after the nerf became not important at all. The new items introduced consumable white items making them essentially worthless overall.
The process of making DLC for 2 must have been awful to work with considering all the variables involved. The new design philosophies did not match up with the original design philosophies and I think the new team members are to blame partly with that.
everyone who opposes the only person who matters in the universe (me) is ontologically evil
He made the worms too big, his brother was 100% in the right to chuck those motherfrickers into a black hole.
The mental image of Mithrix dunking the fully sized Gilded Wurms into the well as a child is pretty funny
>Be space demigod
>Can do anything
>Choose to make big worms and other funny animals in some dumb planet
I don't get it.
go away Mithrix how did you get internet on the moon
what else are you gonna do
I'd make giant robots.
And giant robot worms I guess.
women hate how little it takes for men to be happy
relatable
Providence was a fricking idiot. If he didnt want me to genocide his planet and kill him why did he crash my ship onto his planet and send the wildlife at me?
he wanted the teleporter i believe.
because you stole extremely important shit from him and tried to ship it away
>be providence, have empathy unlike your brother
>given the gift to create due to your empathy.
>make a self sustaining environment for various races across the universe who messed up, giving them a second chance
>only rule is that they cannot try to leave the planet. high chance that they might frick up again and you might not be able to save them a second time...
>also because you've taken great care to make a bulwark that stops outside evils from infiltrating your planet, dont want the dunemen making another deal with a galactic demon.
>your brother does not have empathy
>he whines and moans because he doesnt have empathy and wants a dead rock for a home planet
>he pisses and shits his pants because you are giving your guardians the ability to self determine and think for their own.
>he throws a tantrum because your own designs are superior and result in better quality of life.
>get fed up and lock him on the moon.
>much later, humans are trying to transport an artifact that belongs to you.
>just taking back your belongings and punishing the criminals (those aboard the transport ship), even in their law this is the right thing to do.
>the ship crashes because a few of those you've saved try to teleport up with you.
>while you're sorting out what was on that ship the survivors start fighting through the planet.
>only notice much later that they are killing those you have saved, not knowing that the humans didnt start it.
he did NOTHING wrong,
he tried to play god
thats like the biggest wrong to do
and he botches repeatedly, showing he wasnt big enough for those britches, just a deluded spacefreak
that much power in the hands of a delusional murderhobo is a timebomb
i'll do it again too
Christ owns the stars
>job is to guard
>make more stuff to "guard"
>start getting proactive about "guarding"
Providence was a rabid dog and needed to be put down.
What happens when he gets even more adventurous with his "creations" and "guarding" them?
He signed his death warrant when his gaze turned outward, he was a greedy little shit, too good for the natural order.
That's why it's YOUR ship and YOUR bridge you fight him on, you are true Providence, literally falling out of heaven to end the madness of a false god.
>make more stuff to "guard"
he only made the golems and maybe the worms, everything else he rescued from other planets
so he made stuff
aside from stealing away stuff meant for extinction
and crammed them together in a toybox that he ran like a despot
a brother murdering psycho
who then lashes out at literal strangers leading to him getting reduced to a stain on the floor of the Contact Light
>so he made stuff
he made stuff to help him guard stuff.
next mithrix toe sucker argument please
oh wow, it's like he was spiralling into a perversion of his purpose
like i said he was
a clear pattern of escalation leading to a series of interplanetary incidents
so yeah, he was getting more creative about his "creations" and his definition of "guarding"
dude is the aggressor long before humans even bumble into him, they were just the one party that didn't pity him like his brother or fear him like his vassals
so they put his ass down
and were right to

He lost. That's enough wrong right there.
He defied the will of the omnipresent death GILF and for that he was sentenced to death by space Amazon suicide squad, please understandu.
>her
wut?
is this new?
She's mentioned in a few different logs, where Mithrix is mad that she died for Providence but not him.
i thought it was just the two of them being autists in the middle of nowhere. does the DLC reveal new lore?
basegame had a "her" mentioned in 1 or 2 logs, DLC may have mentioned her more, don't recall.
A Moment, Fractured in Base RoR2 mentions a Her, as does the Brittle Crown.
>that text
tfw
>mithrix is so oblivious to reality thanks to his ego that he cant connect three fricking dots
kinda funny if you think about it.
Mithrix is the one who wrote all that, but it's less ego and more naivete and love for his brother that drives him. He wants to explore, he even offers several times to compromise. After the logs I have no idea how anyone could take Providences' side, dudes a frickin snake.
>mithrix wrote that
im aware.
the problem is that mithrix viewed others who werent as powerful as him or his brother as nothing more than rodents that could be left to die without remorse, while providence actually understood the value of a life. and more importantly the significance of an entire species dying.
providence offered a second chance to those who meet an unfortunate end, meanwhile mithrix would constantly talk down about those that providence wished to save. even here
he's tells providence to yet again forget about lesser races, and that he can instead save others like him.
he tells providence to smile despite actively telling him to forget about what makes him happy.
mithrix never saw that all providence wanted was to help those who couldnt help themselves, and he never tried to compromise like you said he did.
< this is egocentrism's log.
but also note this segment of the artifact key's log:
>The key’s creators: two brothers, one composed of ambition and the other compassion.
>The key’s hopes: infused into the key, deep within its core, is a memory of better times, and the hope that one day, perhaps things could be better again.
>The key’s reality: the bitter realization that such a reality exists only in the past.
providence didnt just lock mithrix on the moon because they disagreed, but because mithrix was an active threat to lesser races.
he wouldnt care if his designs killed an entire race on their own, thats why providence betrayed him.
now post the radiant pear
which was likely written far into mithrix's insanity, yes. what about it?
also note the normal pearl's entry.
we can assume it goes as:
>pearl log
>standard sentient creature obtains a lunar item made by mithrix
>providence knows the shit that he's trying to pull, has the creature cleanse itself before mithrix can ruin the poor creature.
>irradiant pearl log
>a rarer pearl is made, it looks pure.
>providence warns the creature that despite its appearance its still made from a dark source, and not to be so trusting.
Providence seems like an butthole. Mithrix sounds like a true bro.
>a true bro is completely oblivious to the feelings of those he cares about.
you couldnt be more wrong.
He tried to compromise multiple times.
show me a single time he tried to compromise.
"forget about what you want to do! instead do this which is kinda like what you want to do but not actually like it at all" isnt a compromise.
he also disregarded everything providence wanted to do, instead suggesting what he wanted in his place.
>wants to go on space adventures with his brother and work together to save his own kind
>still after being betrayed he yearns for his brother
>not a bro
>Mithrix (rightfully) believes himself and his brother, their advanced race, above the creations they've made
>multiple times offers compromise, doesn't just annihilate his brothers' creations, but tells him to come and save their people, escape this prison, and possibly return home
>instead of trying to work with Mithrix, talk to him, do anything, he fricking tosses him aside to play with his dolls and frick about with random shit from around the universe using the teleporters THEY built together
>then just continues to ignore him and not talk to him
>Mithrix, in despair and ultimate loneliness, still asks his brother to talk to him, to say ANYTHING, but Providence can't be bothered to give his brother the time.
Mithrix was only a "threat" to the lesser races after his brother banished him to the fricking moon and gave him the silent treatment for God only knows how long.
>literally just wanted his bro to stop larping as some kind of guardian deity and go on adventures together
So much promise, squandered
Wait what? I thought Mithrix was the c**t while Providence was the one that had some semblance of empathy (except with (You) for RoR1). Is this why he's so angry when we fight him?
This was before RoR1, he got super spiteful and angry in the long fricking time that he was trapped on the moon and betrayed by his brother. That's why he says he's going first (which he does), then Providence doesn't follow, realigns the teleporter and locks it with a lock, which Mithrix via a Salvager later learns is locked until Providences' death.
damn providence is a dick, dude
So the players are actually unwitting slaves of some death goddess?
What are your guys' thoughts on the new Risk of Rain game?

about what homosexual?
he lost
the dude literally got mudstomped by a robot chef
I'll be honest I don't know a single thing about the risk of rain story.
2 brothas
2 ideals
anger
The brothers are literally based on Lucifer and Mastemah.
He failed everyone by playing god.
His brother failed everyone by not killing him.
Risky thread on Ganker...
QUICK ANON POST YOUR BAD IDEAS TO KEEP THE THREAD ALIVE
>NEW ELITE IDEA: FRICKINNNNN UHHHH LEAD ELITES
>THEY'RE TIER 2 AND THEIR GIMMICK IS THAT THEY FRICKING HAVE A FIELD AROUND THEM THAT MAKES EVERYTHING HEAVY AS FRICK INCLUDING YOU AND YOUR PROJECTILES
>IF YOU GET HIT BY THEM THEN GUESS WHAT FRICKER YOU CAN'T JUMP FOR LIKE 5 SECONDS YOU'VE RELIED ON YOUR HOPOO FEATHERS FOR TOO LONG
>THEY'RE GRAY AND THEY HAVE NAILS GOING THROUGH THEIR HEAD LIKE FRICKIN MAG AGENT TORTURE FROM MADNESS COMBAT
PLEASE RATE FIVE STARS I WORKED VERY HARD ON THIS (THOUGHT OF IT DURING A RUN)
uhhh
uh
Acrid vore??
new risk of rain game where it's open world and all the areas are full biomes that you can travel between. you keep stacking items until you get enough jump height and speed to reach escape velocity then swim back home
>drink enough sodas and have enough feathers to jump home
I'm down
Post the final one, it's been a while since i've seen it
reminder that chirr is fat

I'm excited for Returns.
Risk of Rain?`More like risk of knee!
>Black person worshippers
ah
into the trash they go
Will Returns have any more characters? Any chance we'll get another dev log this month?
I think the only new ones so far are Artificer (from 2) and Drifter (completely new)
Personally I'd like to see Captain come back
>Walk around peacefully.
>get attacked for no reason
>defend yourself or die
I dunno if he's even considered a villain, but he attacks me first, so I kill the motherfricker.
he attacks you because you hunt the planet's inhabitants. he's just unaware that they attacked first.
2's soundtrack was generic as frick compared to the first. Chris is a hack who tried too hard to be like his music idols.
Returns should be pretty cool if only for alternative abilities and way more stage variation. Being able to move while shooting is a huge plus too.
>traps his brother on the moon because his brother didn't want to accept a bunch of space refugees to ruin his and his brother's planet
>starts going all savior complex all over the universe
>attacks a random ship for no fricking reason
>tells all his worshippers to kill everyone who isn't one of the refugees
>"Lol HE DID noTHinG WRONG!!!!!"
Did he even wait for his brother to be mad about other people to trap him there? Didn't he snake him immediately before he even set about collecting all the random species for his zoo? Makes sense that Mithrix would be fricking livid over his brothers' betrayal, considering.
I liked RoR2 more than RoR1 too bad they didn't updated it that much... Hopefully the new shovelware will be fun
When is ror returns
You know when I think about it, theres so many games where the game tells us about the villain and how evil he is, but not once in the game do we see him do anything actually evil, or if he does do something evil it's so comically dumb that it's hard to take seriously.
>RoR returns skins are just sprite recolors
>a good part of the new mechanics are just doubling down on awful temporary items and buffs, they made an entire new character built around this mechanic
Hopoo is lazy and dumb
I really miss risky threads being relevant, even if 2 was kinda lame at times the resurgence of hosts was so damn fun
Fricking Hotpoo dropped the ball hard man
so what happened to that one RoR2 mod porting starstorm stuff over? The executioner was surprisingly really well done
I'm assuming it just ceased any updates?
>fantastic atmosphere
>great OST without going over the top
>cool final boss, challenging without being overtly punishing
>level design allows for skill scaling smoothly
ROR1 was fun
>simple yet functional atmosphere
>bland OST with no memorable tracks
>shit final boss that stems from shit game design
>level design? lol what's that
>nerf anything fun and bloat the item pool with unnecessary crap
ROR2 is trash
So what's your thoughts on Returns since it's just 1 with more stuff?
I'm never buying a hotpoo product again after they proved being completely incompetent. Besides 1 with more stuff already exists in the form of mods.
Something I really appreciate about RoR2 and I'm glad is making a return to RoRR is the alternate skill loudout. Hopefully Miner is a blast to play.
>left RoR2 to die because "I don't like doing 3D"
Hopoo is a homosexual
Didn't kill his brother.
Didn't kill us, either.
>betrayed his brother whose "sin" was tossing some worms into a black hole, which he had already punished him for by knocking them both into said black hole
>looked into space, saw the human race was theoretically failing and was planning to offer them refuge on his planet
>when said humans got close to his planet he teleports onto their ship and starts murdering them all
>his shithole planet follows suit and tries to murder all the humans (who he himself had previously said he wanted to help)
>die like a moron because you tried to stop one of the humans from flying away after you fricking snaked them like you snaked your brother when he decides to get the frick off the planet you crashed his ship onto
ah yes, never did anything wrong, yep.
do you guys think providence/mythrix are some sort of elevated race of imps? they both have a sort of blink teleport, the singular eye, and the imp lords / mythrix both get grabbed through a portal on death. mythrix and providence are blue while the imps are red
what is the black oily stuff and why does the moon implode
>black oily stuff
tar, interstellar parasite that consumes entire worlds.
>why does the moon implode
out of reality crustaceans that like collecting things. the moon is a thing.
Im sorry anons but I like risky 2 more than risky 1..... that was until the dlc. God damn these devs fricked up ror2 like they were intentionally trying to make is shit
