Opposite anon. late 80's~ end of the 90's people loved the shit out of dinosaurs. by 2005 people didn't give a shit about dinosaurs anymore and wanted games about pirates or killing iraqis

But Primal Rage and all those games released at the peak of dinosaur hype. Jurassic Park, Dinosaurs the TV show, Dinosaur the Disney movie, Dinosaur Planet, Flintstones movies and games, Yoshi, etc. were all products of that period. Where's the dinosaur stuff now? Snoot Game?

It's actually kind of surprising that the game only got a T rating when mothers everywhere were up in arms over video game violence. Though funny that the only real issue anyone brought up was the acid piss finisher.

They were violent as any other animal. Like they wouldn’t want to kill everything but you need to be moronic to just walk up to one and expect not to get harmed.

You mean like the MK style fatalities?
Kinda, the game launched with Ultra Combos instead on launch which is a similar concept of flashy game ender, but trades custom animations for more freedom in styling on people. One of the last updates added Ulimates which is a cinematic you can cancel your Utlra Combo into if you are still on your first health bar, but they were basically out of budget by then so not every character got one and a couple of them are pretty lame.
Personally I'm not a fan of fatalities anyway, they get old the first time you see them and don't add anything to the actual gameplay, if I style on someone hard enough that I would want to do a fatality on them I'd much rather triple ultra https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIY6Q1cBgns

That said Primal Rage is a bit of a different beast, Fatalities are a bigger part of its identity and a proper modern realization wouldn't be quite as pure a fighting game as KI anyway with the worshippers and rampage mode or whatever it was called

God, I was SO fricking into Primal Rage as a kid. That shit was my fricking jam, I had almost the entire roster of toys. Hell, I think I may have had them all. Off the top of my head, I know for a fact I had Armadon, Chaos, Diablo, Vertigo, and goddamn Slashfang somehow. Not sure if I had Talon, which is ironic since he was my favorite of the bunch. To this day, I still have no idea how I did a single goddamn combo. Not even printing the move lists helped me much once the internet became a thing. Wonder how I would do know that I know basic shit like DPs and pretzel motions.

primal rage had weird inputs, you held the buttons and then did the motion instead of the other way around, and since it's an old game the input reader was really strict

        Anonymous

Supposedly the last arcade revision added normal control inputs, too.

It can be fine to do your own thing, but first you need to sit back and figure out if your own thing sucks or not. Man, I wish we could get modern day one. Killer Instinct turned out surprisingly great, though I recognize it was one in a million.

So did I, and I didn't even play the game that much. I just liked dinosaurs, I guess because Jurassic Park brainwashed me, but I had basically every single toy from primal rage.

For some reason I had a crush on Vertigo, no idea what little kid me was thinking. Weird little frick

I sincerely miss the dino craze of the '90s. So many people have tried but no one's been able to bring it back. Not even the millions of dollars the shitty Jurassic World movies made was enough.

I put countless hours into the SNES version. Armadon was my favorite but his playstyle was hard to master since he was so slow and had to use special moves to throw himself around the arena. Vertigo was the one I mastered to the point of being able to beat the AI on higher difficulties, mainly because of her reach and because she had the easiest special move inputs.

Wish I could claim as such, I mostly just mashed buttons. Still, it was fun. Just wish I had known there were versions besides the SNES and Genesis one.
