My biggest problem with it is that the "rogue lite" aspect isn't really there, to the point that even if you intentionally take different levels, classes and different weapons every run, it still all feels very much the same. Every run I find myself gravitating to some trait that randomizes your elemental damage, causes elemental damage or buffs it, every run once I get access to the puzzle box I go and get that, every run my playstyle remains avoid rapid fire weapons and heavies(unless it's the bastion and I can get rid of the speed penalty) and focus on shotguns and precision weapons, and ultimately every run boils down to triple jump jetpack raining death from above and then grappling hook elsewhere, and the bosses being focus fire with whatever damage boost trait I have, then zip away with a grappling hook until that trait recharges and repeat. By Guardian 3 difficulty I just really didn't feel like replaying again especially since Commando/Elemental don't feel like they switch up the game enough, and Recon's knife is no more satisfying than any other melee weapon in the game.
I do like the OST plenty though.

Quit calling them roguelikes, there's a better name for games like this and Enter the Gungeon even if I can't recall it atm

i like this game alot but i find that electric element is super OP and makes everything else irrelevant. Have played in coop with a good friend up to max guardian rank and we can consistently clear when we stack Recon electric blade + anything electric.

Seriously incredible movement/soundtrack though. I love this game and can't wait for more content and hopefully some balance changes.

Can't get past of any second area but so far my favorite robot is the orange one. I probably just suck but there's definitely a difficulty spike after the first area. Any tips?

      Guardian is my favorite song.

The problem with the game is that it becomes fun only after unlocking everything. Unfortunately that takes like 20h on easy mode.
      After that it's great though.

      >I probably just suck but there's definitely a difficulty spike after the first area. Any tips?
Just keep grinding. It's designed around meta progression.

Runs are too long and if you get far that means you got really lucky. There's no stress or tention on long runs and I just wanted to die so I could stop.

The simple addition of being able to goomba-stomp enemies is great. Jumping at an enemy, whitling down their health mid-air and finishing them off by bouncing off their head to keep momentum going feels really good.

The melee robot was my best run clearer.
Just put your melee attack on your mouse button and you win.

it's a fun game in short burst, basically do your first run of the day and hope you reach the final boss or else, music is top.
my few grips is that there are no ammo boxes since every guns have infinite ammo, so i never ever used the second weapon slot, i just use whatever is the strongest and i see absolutely no reason to use green/blue weapons over yellow and orange in every runs i've ever done since early access and i had that game for over a year before release.
map design/generation really sucks since they all feels like claustrophobic linear corridors most of the time somehow so it doesn't really matter if it's random or not, it all feels the same.
enemy design are all grey round things with red dot for weakspot, while you can still recognize which enemy is which, it just feels really lazy to have the elemental/special enemy to just have a different paint and they just feel samey.

you basically don't play it for the roguelike aspect, you just wanna destroy shit within 30min and call it a day, i'd rate it above 7/10

        Anonymous

nta but like roboquest with the fat trimmed off
map layouts are more random, secrets/optional stages are worth going through more than once or twice for a meta unlock
perk selection is more focused since there's no generics flooding your pool
more focus on making use of your character's specific abilities to win engagements instead of it being fluff for budget doom eternal gameplay

Its really shit, don't believe them. Your movement is obscenely slow and because the game is balanced around multiplayer with reviving in it, most of the time the game's only difficulty comes from oneshotting the player to put them in a downed state. In solo play this just means every run will end with you being one tapped in .5 seconds, or making it to the end no sweat.

Reborn is both too slow-paced and runs are far too easily swayed by luck. Half the time I get the upgrades for any particular character that lets me close my eyes and delete everything, and the other half the game spawns enemies that one-shot you before you get the upgrades that basically put you in godmode. It's terribly unbalanced.

    >kill an enemy drops healing spheres

It's an interesting game but it has a lot of strange design decisions

  19. 4 months ago

I don't like the big bara energy the playable robots have

  20. 4 months ago
    Anonymous

the core gameplay itself was fine in my experience but its when you figure the game out and start getting unlocks you start noticing strangeness that erodes the experience for me
there's shit that you can permanently unlock that can completely change how you can play the game like getting an additional jump and the limited hover and then there's other shit you will rarely if ever make use of that's harder to unlock that only exists because its quirky and gimmicky
or there's stuff like the shovel where you have to give up a weapon slot in order to access sort of secrets but sometimes the game wont give you more than two and you'll get completely worthless trash white weapons out of them, the shovel really should have just been one of the gadgets you unlock you always have on you that lets you access the sort of secrets
some areas are over packed with shit and those rooms where you're locked in and have to clear a horde are the worst examples of this because enemies will just spawn all over the room including inside you and of course the final level requires you to go through several of them in a row though at least those rooms are a bit bigger
most of the perks a given class has are horrible almost astounding dogshit and in order to fill out your in game glossary you have to actually take the dogshit to review it later
bosses are hit or miss, some are fun and have interesting designs and others are just incredibly annoying tedium, the final boss falls into the latter category

I wouldn't say the game is horrible but its not the sort of thing I really felt like going back to after I finished unlocking all the basic bits which isn't what I think a roguelite is meant to be going for
I think it was just trying to do too many things at once instead of focusing on making more of the good core parts great
also did not pay for this game so take that as you will

You can upgrade the shovel if you take the middle path giving it a good alt fire if you just want to rush through levels fast

        Anonymous

that's the only thing the shovel is really good for, a guaranteed source of rocket jump and maybe a little extra health regen on stragglers for a weedier class
its unique purpose, digging up the little secret goodies, is impressively not worth touching the thing for unless you're really hurting for those data logs
a melee class will have a better time with parts of its dedicated melee abilities and otherwise it'd be better to just have another gun

  21. 4 months ago

This game just becomes boring fast. Maps are way too narrow.

Rogue Devs need to understand that if you want to produce a first person Roguelike level design needs to be wide open and circular.

    Not narrow and claustrophobic.

Fantastic game, movement and combat is top-tier. Classes all feel distinct although like someone else mentioned runs feel kind of samey

If you're looking for something similar, try Deadlink. Cyberpunk FPS with insane movement and combat

Gunfire isn't even comparable to Roboquest in terms of actual gameplay feel, it's so fricking slow in comparison where RQ feels like it has roots in classic shooters. It's a really good game it just needs a bit more stage and itemization variety. I 100%ed it in like 70 hours and it was a fun ride.

  28. 4 months ago

just wish some rogue like game would actually try to have the item and build variety that the binding of isaac can have
in isaac you can literally break the game with your builds

so many recent roguelikes hate letting the player break the game
      I'm looking at you Gungeon

the people behind gungeon are moronic
they had such a great setting
all they had to do was add more levels, weapons, enemies and synergies between items and it could have been a great contender to isaac
but instead they reused their assets and created a shitty mobile game that bombed

          >punishes you for getting good gear
          >doesn't give you ammo in a game about shooting a billion different guns
          >game barely gives you any guns within a run to begin with
I hate how long it took me to figure out that this game was ass. I even beat all the endings for each character. Except the rat, frick that.

beluga cannon is one of the most powerful weapons in the game

Plenty of them are good and I like them in theory but the movement speed reduction is such a handicap on higher difficultly that most of them aren't worth it unless you have one of the ways to reduce the penalty.

          Anonymous

not really, the reduction is barely a factor because you're zooming around with jetpack and grappling hook etc., you'll notice how much of a non factor it is when you get consistent at clearing Guardian 4. Problem with heavy weapons is that they're mostly shit weapons that get outperformed by the windmill rifle for 95% of the builds across all brobots
