Honestly we’re in a nice revival of isometric crpgs right now. Wrath of the Righteous was decent, BG3 is making people go nuts, this is quite good too. Really no matter what you prefer there’s a game for you. I bounced off BG3 but I played the beta for Rogue Trader and loved it.

They introdued the DLC after pre-orders for the $100 'founders' pack or whatever and are now charging extra for DLC that was announced literally day of release so that it was not possible to pre-order, and then official devs mouthpieces claims they only finalized things literally day of release.

The issue is the combat, there's a ton and it's not particularly good, would be better with less and better designed encounters.
Loving playing as Soldier, Cassia makes me feel like a god.
I'm only up to the last (I think last) mission of act I but so far bugs are minimal. I think only annoying thing is I can't fast forward combat but I think that's just the fact I haven't managed to actually find the goddamn hotkey for it.
Combat encounters in this mission have been a bit too long. Doesn't help AI now tries to gain distance and cover, which means you're stuck going after them once their ranks thin out. The midway boss in the warehouse right before the sewers was a pain because he retreated to the far corner of the room. And also I'm pretty sure he triggered perils of the war and summoned a chaos spawn though that might have been part of the encounter itself I'm not sure.
Otherwise nothing major in terms of bugs. Characters do a wonky thing when I try to skip their turn and their mid movement, but that's it.
Literally just a budget issue. Humans and Eldar are easy to add since they are the main threats in the campaign while a Kroot would need a sensible reason to recruit which'd mean more xenos to model and some kroot or tau themed terrain as well as developing and testing whatever unique abilities he'd get.

Are you able to make custom mercenaries early on in the game like the Pathfinder games did? I really liked the frick out of this feature in both past games they did, allowing me to make my custom party and remove any tard companion getting uppity.

On the enemy status bar you see an icon with the same picture as analyze enemies with the number of exploit stacks they have.
Also when you move a character you will see a line drawn from you to the enemy, that shows line of sight
cannot wait to try it. I wasnt super keen on it initally, even though I had played and beaten Kingmaker/Wrath. Then I heard it had coop, cannot wait to play through it now.
Fricker almost got me because I didn't position properly and he kept healing using the mooks in the room.

That's every story though. What do you want to play as, a manufactorum worker chained to an assembly line? Why play as some regular guy when you can be THEE guy.
It's a necessary compromise in the lore. Post Heresy, the Imperium becomes so dogmatic and rules-bound that it hampers expansion, if there were even resources to continue expanding with. Instead, all the Space Marine chapters need decades or centuries to rebuild, and every spare soldier and ship is being used just to keep the peace and stamp out the myriad worlds loyal to Horus or captured by xenos during the civil war.
The solution is to give private individuals with their own ships the remit to explore and conquer. If they bring more worlds into the fold, awesome. It's cheaper than a crusade. If they get killed, eaten, or tentacle raped, well then that's fine too, no great loss for the Imperium.

The problem with a real assassin is that they come with bosses who they have true loyalty to over you while a Death Cult Assassin is loyal to the Imperium but only works for you. You already run into that issue with Heinrix being an Interrogator and Pasqal being Admech but at least they can have conflicting loyalties.

Life-extending technology exists but not nearly on the scale of being able to match an Eldar's natural lifespan. Only Space Marines and Admech can really hope to get up to Eldar ages.

I think it's great, everything from OST to writing (MASSIVE improvement from pathfinder) to gameplay (simpler than pathfinder but fun enough)

Just early game since they are special (unsanctioned canary for an RT and an Interrogator) while you are just a bog standard Sanctioned. There's so many talents that you'll catch up by act 2 and by the endgame everyone is gonna be on an even playing field.
Should I get this game i've never played a 40K game. I'm playing bga3 for the first time now and I'm a 40 hours in and it's OK I'm not completely captivated it's a lot of learning. I just want a good RPG that is relatively intuitive and there's not a huge learning curve
Rogue Trader is VERY lore-heavy, way more so than BG3 because unlike D&D, 40k setting is actually semi-coherent. The game does a relatively good job explaining all the lore to you, and you are allowed to ask some really stupid questions, but at first you might be a bit lost as to what is what.
If bg3 is hard for you probably avoid this and any owlcat game until you feel confident with other crpgs

Who knows? It's common for Owlcat to fix things and to say you should reload an earlier save for the fix to apply. That's why I'm not playing past the prologue until they fix it

I'm only up to the last (I think last) mission of act I but so far bugs are minimal. I think only annoying thing is I can't fast forward combat but I think that's just the fact I haven't managed to actually find the goddamn hotkey for it.
Combat encounters in this mission have been a bit too long. Doesn't help AI now tries to gain distance and cover, which means you're stuck going after them once their ranks thin out. The midway boss in the warehouse right before the sewers was a pain because he retreated to the far corner of the room. And also I'm pretty sure he triggered perils of the war and summoned a chaos spawn though that might have been part of the encounter itself I'm not sure.
Otherwise nothing major in terms of bugs. Characters do a wonky thing when I try to skip their turn and their mid movement, but that's it.

Also when you move a character you will see a line drawn from you to the enemy, that shows line of sight

It's a necessary compromise in the lore. Post Heresy, the Imperium becomes so dogmatic and rules-bound that it hampers expansion, if there were even resources to continue expanding with. Instead, all the Space Marine chapters need decades or centuries to rebuild, and every spare soldier and ship is being used just to keep the peace and stamp out the myriad worlds loyal to Horus or captured by xenos during the civil war.
The solution is to give private individuals with their own ships the remit to explore and conquer. If they bring more worlds into the fold, awesome. It's cheaper than a crusade. If they get killed, eaten, or tentacle raped, well then that's fine too, no great loss for the Imperium.

The problem with a real assassin is that they come with bosses who they have true loyalty to over you while a Death Cult Assassin is loyal to the Imperium but only works for you. Life-extending technology exists but not nearly on the scale of being able to match an Eldar's natural lifespan. Only Space Marines and Admech can really hope to get up to Eldar ages.

Eldar live for fricking millenia, the 40k life extending technology can push your lifespan for at max 400 years. There is no fricking way you'll get to outlive an Eldar, unless you get your hands on the halo device, but that's a can of worms in and of itself.
It's just the typical outcome of a long lived race with a short lived race. Yrliet does stick with RT until their death in one of her variations, but it is very odd that Owlcat said it was like 50 years instead of being vague because someone like a RT would be able to extend their life to an extent.

I think it's great, everything from OST to writing (MASSIVE improvement from pathfinder) to gameplay (simpler than pathfinder but fun enough)

Just early game since they are special (unsanctioned canary for an RT and an Interrogator) while you are just a bog standard Sanctioned. There's so many talents that you'll catch up by act 2 and by the endgame everyone is gonna be on an even playing field.
Should I get this game i've never played a 40K game. I'm playing bga3 for the first time now and I'm a 40 hours in and it's OK I'm not completely captivated it's a lot of learning. I just want a good RPG that is relatively intuitive and there's not a huge learning curve
Rogue Trader is VERY lore-heavy, way more so than BG3 because unlike D&D, 40k setting is actually semi-coherent. The game does a relatively good job explaining all the lore to you, and you are allowed to ask some really stupid questions, but at first you might be a bit lost as to what is what.
If bg3 is hard for you probably avoid this and any owlcat game until you feel confident with other crpgs

Yes Operative is better because the damage early is low so the Exploit stuff helps to overcome it, especially the Talent that lets you increase damage vs Full Health Targets, meanwhile Comraderie for Soldier which is the best way to increase damage doesn't seem to work with Spells, might be a bug though
Pyro is for Forge World Warrior. Takes a while to come online but by the gods it comes the frick online.
