Moving out of your comfort zone like this is the best way to enhance roleplay in my experience, and around 9/10 people that disliked their character at first grew to love it after a couple of sessions

Is the character a man or an androgynous woman?
tiger girls, man
Just tried this. Got a female Half-Elf Wizard. I'm kinda disappointed to be honest.
You just wanted to post that image
I already have it saved, so no need for that, OP
Why stop there? Why not randomly generate you character's name?
Roll 1d8 for name length, then roll 1d26 for each letter. Nothing like having a character named "D" or "Xmtwknpb."
>Not generating names from syllables
ngmi
Rolled 8 (1d8)
Testing
Rolled 2, 11, 25, 4, 22, 6, 24, 20 = 114 (8d26)
Going for that long name
Bkydvfxt
pronounced Bek-yedv-fox't?
Bkydvfxt
Good ol' B-kud-ve-fix
Roll anal circumference.
I do this in heroes Unlimited. It is a lot more fun than thinking about it.
>still rolls human male fighter while everyone else is some variety of beastfolk woman
roll a D2 to have a nice day
What if your game is actually a game, and doesn't rely on the players being theater dropouts and the master being a failed novelist?
Wouldn't the increased randomization be more game-y?
No, randomness doesn't automatically equal a game. Players can act in random ways while still not be actively playing a game.
Sounds like a pretty boring game, if it only falls between the two extremes of being a theatergay and "rolling to hit". Then again, I prefer something more engaging that rewards tactical thinking, instead of pretending some neckbeard's idea of a princess and its portrayal is the hottest thing ever.
Sounds like you should play wargames then.
All right, so that just leads back to my initial question: what if your game is actually a game, and doesn't rely on the players being theater dropouts and the master being a failed novelist?
Then idk, roll to hit and keep your mouth shut.
You are not going far enough. I have run entire campaigns using only three dicerolls.
First, you roll a die. Odds there was a game, evens there wasn't. Such tension, man we are already off to an exciting start.
Then you roll 2d20 for campaign length. That's the number of sessions you played.
Then you roll 1d6 for how much you enjoyed it. Where 1 is you hated it, and 6 is you loved it.
Using this method, you can enjoy whole DECADES worth of campaigns in under an hour! Its the only way to play. Anyone who says otherwise is a fricking scrub.
That's why you play Gamma World
>Roll 1d6 on each table please
> Race:
>1. Human
>2. Human
>3. Human
>4. Human
>5. Human
>6. Human
> Sex:
>1. Male
>2. Male
>3. Male
>4. Male
>5. Male
>6. Male
> Class:
>1. Fighter
>2. Fighter
>3. Fighter
>4. Fighter
>5. Fighter
>6. Fighter
Now you can play in my campaign
Solo gaming general's that way
>Rolling dice
>Not drawing tarot cards and divining their esoteric meaning to influence the characters and plots
What chart do you use to roll for? And for what system?
Why have none of you posted a table?
I dislike the idea that all races are equally numerous in any fictional setting.
Post a better table then.
NTA but here's the objectively best table
Rolled 20, 2, 3 + 1 = 26 (3d20 + 1)
>Aasimar
>Monk
>Lawful Good
>Fearful, Know-It-All
This is so kino I might actually use this.
Rolled 1 + 1 (1d20 + 1)
Rolling, the final d2 is for gender: male if 1, female if 2.
Apparently I am shit at using the dice option, or you could never roll multiple different dice and I just learnt it.
Manual rolling (except for race, which was rolled) gave a neutral evil female human sorcerer with the unstable and hypocondriac traits, which would arguably make for a fun villain.
Maybe something about connecting the idea of "using fire to free the world from disease" with "burning sick people (all people)".
I only do this if I don't have any idea of what to make. I don't necessarily go with what I roll, though. I use the rolls as a sort of divining tool to figure out what I actually want to play.
You can't roll multiple die sizes at once on /tg/
It can be hit or miss, elf player and dwarf player might not like their characters. Make a good world, good races and let them have their pick
Roll for stats then have a big list of races and sexes of those races each of which has specific and unique ability score modifiers then choose class based on final ability scores.
>Well I wanted to be a thief but the stats I rolled are more like a fighter's but I could be a mediocre thief if I chose to be a halfling female. On the other hand if I was an orc male I could be a really good barbarian but now upon close examination I see that if I was an angelic male I could be a paladin
>weighted table for region of birth
>weighted table for race
>backstory generator
>personality partly freely chosen, partly based on backstory
>choice of alignment based on backstory
>choice of class based on backstory
>name them freely
The "backstory generator" might be an elaborate game of life, or just a list of professions and/or wealth levels, depending on what you like, but you are guaranteed to become attached to the character if they survive the first session.
I am the 10th.
