>RPG is a mess of numbers, modifiers and mechanics
>use internet system to help
>it's not designed to work with mechanics such as selective rerolls on attack die
>the available character sheet has filled out all the starting skills
>but not the starting traits
>and the boxes are too small to hold numbers
>and you can't put in your actual final characteristic bonus, because it'll mess up melee weapon damage, despite it not working right anyway
>no-one wants to return to pen & paper because they'd have to show up to someone's house
Honestly don't like internet board gaming. It's more work than it saves.

      Do you only play D&D?
I thought everyone stopped after 3ed.

There are more people playing D&D today than ever played 3rd-ed, using graduated definitions of Playing and People.

I know this is a dead board but you can't actually be this out of touch with the state of the hobby.

Jesus christ, this troll has actually gone insane at this point.
No subtlety, just pure braindead shitposting.

    Oh wow.
Hey, yeah, I don't like internet board gaming either!
I should probably make a thread about it, too. The entire board needs to know how I feel about this thing I can avoid!

A lot of the various for sale aids and commodification of the hobby are like that.
      >no-one wants to return to pen & paper because they'd have to show up to someone's house
That sucks, what's up with that? Hanging out with your friends every 2 weeks, making dinner and playing games is a great time.

      >how dare gamers talk about playing traditional games on the traditional games board

I can say with the various games my extended gaming group has going on that we started playing online during Covid then had moved just far enough away from each other by the time we were looking at going back to in person that we ended up staying online.

          >started playing online during covid
Ouch. That was just never an issue in my group. ydy but online play always feels less engaging and less satisfying to me.

That is fair, but I'd also prefer online with this group of my friends who I enjoy gaming with than in person with random people starting new groups again,

Might be able to start coaxing them out of their holes with boardgame night. Its lower pressure than ttrpg somehow.

Yeah the only good VTTs (maptool and foundry) require a lot of initial investment to get going.
After that they're pretty solid, but it's still very different from playing at a table.

For games where things are more "serious" I prefer text based online games.
For most other games I prefer in person.

But it really depends on what we're doing and how.

I've been generally happy with my experiences using VTTs, but using Foundry I'm always left wishing for better drawing tools, and customisable sheets.

      >Sheets
I find it easier to either make sheets using google's excel (if the sheets need heavy math), or just designing a sheet in program of choice, converting it to PDF, then using PDFill to make it form fillable.
Sure both miss out on some levels of integration with the program, but it's pretty fricking great for a very minor loss.

I was considering the option, so thank you for giving me the search word 'PDFill'. Ideally I'd like to upload it to Foundry and use it there, but I fear that might require me to learn basic coding and I just can't be arsed. As a GM I like having access to everyone's sheets, but honestly maybe just making it standard to upload a copy of it at the beginning of each session would be enough.

Is Roll20 bad? I've only ever used it once, played Delta Green in it, and I thought it worked fine.

No. I wouldn't say it's particularly good either. It just works.

It's fine for games that have a properly made character sheet.
Gotta use Chrome though. Firefox has serious issues when it gets busy.

I think it works the best on TTS, where the 'rules' are still calculated in the player's heads.

    >RPG has the right amount of numbers, modifiers, and mechanics
    >don't need any internet system to help
    >I'm able to work with any kind of mechanic because my information is available at a glance
    >my character sheet can be filled with not only all starting skills, but starting traits too
    >no part of the sheet is too small to hold any information
    >I'm also able to put in any final bonus that's applicable, without it messing anything up, because it all works correctly
    >I don't have to rely on what anyone else wants, because I made it for me
    >"rewrite what you don't like" was unironically the best advice I ever received on this board, because I can do whatever I want without needing to dumb down my maths and mechanics and without stripping away options for tactical combat, crafting, and exploration
Anyway, I hope OP is able to find a solution to… whatever problem he's having. I've certainly never had to deal with it.
