??? I already am though.
Spectrum is YOUR game anon? Holy shit can you leak some stuff I love this game.
shhh
I've missed you
They game is looking great, loving the new trainer OW
Do you still do updates somewhere? I thought you’d disappeared from the map
sick
can you do this with the rpg maker?
yes
>What's stopping you?
A lack of
>creativity
>talent
>free time
That combined with a general sense of ennui
Just like each and every millennial out there
>What's stopping you from making a pokemon fangame anon?
because rpgmaker is gay and limited. what i wanted to do isnt possible and im not hyped to make a grind simulator even if just for shits and giggles. i stay with gms2 and no way in hell am i touching the pokemon ip.
Isn't XP like 15 years old? I already have a newer one from a different giveaway. Also this isn't "free" they make all their money on asset packs which are paid DLC
Pretty sure XP is the one with Pokemon Essentials support
I already made a GBC hack and that took way too long.
I’m struggling with it, perhaps I could pay you to help me fix something
I'm not struggling with anything, it's just a large time commitment that I don't want to start from scratch with.
I'm scared I'll inevitably turn it into edgy slop like Reborn or Rejuvenation
Cringekino is good anon. Good to piss on, that is.
procrastination
also still waiting for a friend to finish some pre-development preparations for the project I'll be working on with him and probably a few others
Use those as examples of what not to do
the former because shitty puzzles that expect you to look up a walkthrough are fricking moronic, and the latter because of shitty field effects (most notably, free weather speed ability activation for the enemy but not for you because you get barely fricking any weather abusers that won't get pwned by coverage added by a homosexual who doesn't want you using bullshit against his totally well balanced game) and fricking spaghetti variables/switches/map events
oh yeah and there's the third game from the autism trilogy that you forgot to mention, Desolation
what's the main lession from that game of what not to do? well just play it and see how long until you get frustrated from how fricking obnoxiously narrow and winding the paths are in its slew of hallway maps.
frick the genwarrior-defined "hallway maps" that are simple and easy to navigate mostly straight lines to the next town, how about maps where to get from one end to the other you have to make hundreds of inputs to just navigate the only path, backtrack to other sections of the hallway, and do at least one puzzle of some kind to finally get past to the next area, which is either a really long cutscene full of cliches and hmphs, or another fricking hallway map (or a messy town)
at least you seem to have the judgement to not accidentally end up making the next Pokemon Empire, jesus fricking christ I'd go over the Ganker character limit several times explaining everything bad about the game and I can't think of how to give a short summary of its cancer that's within a reasonable length
I can't wait to play your game, what will it be about?
Essentials is shit, that's what
If you want to make a fangame, rom hacking is the way
romhacking is so good that people refuse to make anything but difficulty and enhancement hacks
>what is clover
a game that was finished nearly 4 years ago and still remains one of the only well made hacks that isn't just "frlg but this time you can get buttfricked by the pokemon"
>finished
2.0 is planned
and I plan to release the best game ever
we can believe it when we see it
?
so clover isnt finished after all, huh?
I can't believe there are even less finished original romhacks than I thought
>so clover isnt finished after all, huh?
2.0 (the definitive final version) will release this year and you will be happy.
That Pokedex enhancement is full of love and autism.
Nice work
Because Pokemon fangames have been infected by the disease known as "profitable clout."
Even Essentials is plagued by this, did you miss the part where the only Essentials game that's relevant in public consciousness is Infinite Fusion?
Your own post proved you wrong though. Infinite Fusion is the biggest essentials game, and yet the majority of essentials games aren't knockoffs or clones of Infinite Fusion and most aren't made to try and get clout. Radical Red is the biggest romhack and almost every other completed romhack is a clone of Radical Red
Because the novelty of Infinite Fusion is the fusions, not creating bullshit difficult scenarios using as many mechanics from the franchise as possible. Making another game with the fusions doesn't really accomplish anything new, you're just putting them in a new region.
Meanwhile the RR clones differentiate themselves with different fanfiction Pokemon changes, custom Megas, custom moves, abilities, etc. while also using different team compositions and Pokemon availability.
> Making another game with the fusions doesn't really accomplish anything new, you're just putting them in a new region
And yet there is no fangame that is 'Infinite Fusion, but now in Hoenn or Unova'. There is no game that is Infinite Fusion, but now with more/different custom made sprites. There is no game that tries to offer some kind of weird spin on the concept, like with introducing tri-fusions.
Most importantly, which you didn't address, there is no fangame that actively tries to chase clout in the same way that Radical Red knockoffs do. A lot of fangames are made with new regions, new mechanics, new stories, are not 'nuzlockable', all of which are death for streamers. The biggest youtubers who play fangames have either stopped a long time ago to chase views in other directions or are nearly completely irrelevant.
Essentials v20+ makes romhacking completely redundant for anything other than minor edits.
Yeah man i love it when the games i play have no coherent art style or music direction
neither of those issues have anything to do with the engine itself
and even still, there are multiple romhacks that have that exact same issue
>neither of those issues have anything to do with the engine itself
Yes because the engine doesn't force the people to have a coherent art style or soundfont
>there are multiple romhacks that have that exact same issue
Not possible, the GB/GBC/GBA/DS engines are too restrictive
>Yes because the engine doesn't force the people to have a coherent art style or soundfont
yes, because it has less limitations. are you going to try and argue that the N64 is better for game development than a PC because the N64 forces you to adhere to more specific artstyles?
>Not possible, the GB/GBC/GBA/DS engines are too restrictive
are you stuck in 2006? romhacks have been able to import overworld sprites, tilesets, and songs for years now
In the meantime i have yet to see an essentials game that doesn't have
>collision issues
>missing move animations
>areas with missing music
>badly looped music
>youtube tier ost with no style or instruments coherence
ok? I've seen multiple games with none of those issues
hell, the only one of those issues intrinsic to the engine itself are the move animations, but there's multiple resources that give animations to nearly all of the missing moves, so it once again leaves the issue that none of your issues have anything to do with the engine itself
These things wouldn't happen if the engine was more restrictive
yes they would, they happen with romhacks
just because they're less common doesn't mean they don't exist
Tales of the Outskirt Stand
hard to frick up a 1 hour game
>moving goalposts
see
since jam gams don't count apparently, vinemon is really polished
name 1
>moving goalposts
Yeah man I love it when games lazily copy FRLG for the 374th time
It runs on handheld consoles now?
Yes.
Does it actually? Can I put random ess*ntials game on a cart and play it like any other romhack?
No. You just use your phone instead.
nta but while you can't play them on nintendo consoles (unless there's some convoluted method to homebrew them onto a wii u or some shit, which evidently has not been done yet) you can play them on Steam Deck and mobile, they just require a few extra steps and don't have guaranteed compatibility with everything
actually went and double checked, you can technically install android on a modded switch which you can then use to download and play essentials games
probably not worth the effort when you can just do it on a normal phone but it's something
>troonydeck
>phonegayging
I'll just stick to normal games instead of that slop thanks
you sound chronically online
The opposite, actually, as I'm playing actual video games instead of downloading troon projects online that have barely anything to do with Pokemon where I get to be educated about proper pronoun usage.
Go back to your discord.

I want to make it in C or whatever coding language is in the decomp so people can play it on real hardware (like a 3ds). RPG maker only works on windows or through a virtual machine.
The UI makes me want to kill myself
Is XP the one that everyone uses for their Fire Red and Leaf Green hacks?
Yes, it's the one essentials uses
any version of rpg maker is shit unless you want to make a generic as frick dragon quest rpg with no interesting features whatsoever
i don't want to
i already bought it 6 years ago
>What's stopping you from making a pokemon fangame anon?
I forgot my Steam alias because I use a different email for everything.
Worst part is, I no longer have my old phone, so I can't get my password back.
>Make a new one
My brother gifted me GTA V, I ain't buying it again.
I use a mac. I think it would be a fun project to make a pokemon engine though.
Also I don't know how to compose music even though I want to
I am going to implement all the things that Yawngay hates in my fan game.
because I'd rather run a TTRPG for my friends or play in one than frick with that.
>What's stopping you from making a pokemon fangame anon?
Nintendo
the trick is to make your game full of edgy and/or offensive stuff so nintendo won't want to DMCA your fangame which would result in them owning it
They could not care less about the content.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Hornio_Brothers
that was 30 fricking years ago and basically the only time such a thing has happened that people actually knew existed (after a somethingawful post in 2009)
either they decided to stop because they didn't want the burden of legally owning shit of that nature, or they've exclusively DMCAed shit no one cares about
probably the one exception was Pokemon Uranium but that's garbage anyways
nintendo has standards and doesn't want to own the rights to that godawful mess
also, they don't want to get sued by pretty much everyone due to legally owning something that plagiarizes way too many different things (and last time I checked none of the plagiarized ideas present in rejuv were good, even if they were detached from that fricking mess)
There are fangames that use Patreon for people to access game features and even sell art of their own characters with Pokemon on them and Nintendo doesn't do anything about it
This is blatantly illegal wtf
lol the creator of one of the biggest fangames (rejuvenation) makes ~2k monthly from his patreon.
tpc doesn't really care much about fangames these days
What is this? This deserves more attention so it can get taken down
https://www.inprnt.com/gallery/honnojis/
https://www.patreon.com/Janichroma
not an employee of gamefreak, tpc or nintendo and yet still earns a minimum wage salary passively for a game using assets he doesn't own, insanity
pokemon rejuvenation
a game notable for:
>terrible writing (basically every other cutscene has people forgetting to use their fricking pokemon to solve problems among other cases of contrived stupidity; and random bullshit time travel space magic shit is regularly thrown into an already messy story),
>mass plagiarism (if it's somewhat mainstream, at least some part of it has been plagiarized by Jan)
>extremely fricked balancing (very few fights are reasonable difficulty, most are either total pushovers or kaizoshit that makes you wonder how it got past the same testers who whined about keta's second fight or the fourth gym's chandelure, or pretty much anything else that got nerf-who am I kidding those were literally the only two fights that were changed to be easier despite a balance survey that was made like a year before v13.5's testing began. all of the actually hard fights (besides 1) were either completely unchanged (besides a minor detail or two that doesn't matter). and going over horribly balanced fields would bloat this post past the character limit)
>also as typical for rebornlikes the mon distribution is fricked; no fun allowed
>severe character bloat (there is a lot of fricking characters that either appear only a few times, or appear a lot in the main story despite doing jack fricking shit; some useless characters can be removed entirely with almost no impact on the plot),
>VERY fricked development priorities (besides completely redoing half the chapters every version, the developer thinks adding an entirely separate story route is a valid use of time and filesize. also each update takes several years now because of this and the developer taking more breaks than frickin yanderedev)
and more. if the game's main plot cliffhanger (raiding the evil team's main base) was resolved by now, then modding the game to basically salvage it and have a competent dev reboot it from scratch could be possible
but that'd require something that won't happen for years
oh yeah and speaking of "and the developer taking more breaks than frickin yanderedev" I'll point out something I could have added into my first post if I wasn't so desperate to squeeze things out of the 2000 character limit to the point where I had to put a post TL;DR in the name field
it's easy to be (correctly) convinced that all the moronic unnecessary shit and random developer hiatuses for bogus reasons (muh mental health even doe the main dev is in a hugbox and the worst criticism/insulting he ever got was being called a DOUBLE Black person on tumblr via his now defunct "ask me anything" thing on his blog there last year) is just stalling for patreon subscription bucks (which as
mentioned is illegal considering what the patreon subscriptions are for; in addition to being scummy), farmed from gullible paypigs who don't know how little they'll actually get for their money
also I guess I'll give a (You) to
and
since those posts are relevant enough to this one
side note, rejuvenation v13's filesize is like 1.2 gb (1gb zipped) and rejuvenation v13.5's filesize is ~1.5 (maybe 1.6) gb (1.3gb). most of that is sound files (there's like over 300 music tracks and only ~20 of them are reasonably named; in case you're wondering) and unused content, either stuff that was never used ingame or leftovers from prior versions
and I'd elaborate more on how fricked its backend is but unless people ask for advice on what not to do seeing as this is a thread about making fangames, I won't waste time elaborating on the obvious
I'm pretty interested about the backend/online play, not too many fangames have it. Is it through built in systems in RPG Maker or is it custom built?
the backend stuff for rejuv I’m talking about is the files and RPG maker project that the game runs from
to put it short
file organization is a fricking mess past the initial sorting folders every RPG maker game uses
a few things are occasionally put in subfolders, but for the vast majority of it basically everything of one asset type follows zero naming conventions, besides maybe a few batches of related assets
now into the coding/mapping side well you’ll notice that there’s no fricking discernable pattern for the game’s switches/variables (which RPG maker uses for its event system (things that happen on maps) and scripts
a few things are labeled clearly and/or part of “blocks” of variables/switches tracking relatef things, but for the rest it’s a genuine fricking mess with no ordering whatsoever
oh yeah and to access the data you need to edit the game’s scripts you’ll first have to use debug mode’s export all data function which is annoying
also all this info isn’t immediately important as I’d rather not commit to cleaning up and modifying an unholy mess of spaghetti code and bloat when I’ll have to do all that shit again if and when v14 drops
and if I really want to make something in RPG maker in the meantime well I’ll just do something not tied to the inconsistent update cycle of a fraudster plagiarist who should be on a watchlist thanks to some of the disgusting shit I’ve had to clean out before I got the news of the “hey v14 is starting development” announcement
made me actually vomit a few times, which is something disgusting fetish porn and fricked up gore somehow can’t do for me, so the less said the better
Stop writing essays about whatever gay seethe you have and just answer the questions normally, holy shit
oh yeah and rejuvenation doesn’t have online play because 1: jan is afraid of people using it to give people le evil sequence breaking overpowered mons even though they could always give his shitty balancing the finger through other means, and 2: it would have probably used the same shitty potato server as Reborn’s online play stuff which fricked up like 1 in every ~8 online battles
also afaik there’s an official rejuv showdown server but I am NOT touching that shit with a 10 foot pole because I’d rather not go somewhere even more insufferable than the blue boards’ equivalent of /misc/, aka /vp/
You seem pretty knowledgeable about working/modding an essentials project.
Can I ask you how I could poke around and get the structure of the save data file in rpg maker? I want to make a tool that extracts save files from the .rxdata but I'm having trouble finding resources on it.
save files are stored in I think users > your name > saved games
to edit a game in RPG maker just add a file named “game.rxproj” in the main folder (should have the exe and some other shit) and open that
nothing, since i am already creating one, OP
I got the crystal disassembly and corrected the few minor gripes I had with crystal ages ago to create the perfect personalized experience. I no longer have a need for other pokemon games.
an idea
I can give you mine
Coding and programming is the most unfun thing in existence. I could design fakemon and maybe even take a crack at making some music too bit I would never ever sit down and type code for hours that could hold it all together. Tried once, it was dreadful.
