It's been metagamed to death. RTS needs fresh new scenario's to push strategy or it becomes stale and repetitive muscle memory for asiatics. The difference between masters and diamond is about 25 seconds. You need to get faster at everything that's it. Strategy falls apart to asiatic muscle memory once the optimal strategies are found. That's all it becomes. If starcraft wanted to keep things rolling they needed to release a new game. This is what these developers are trying to do, but instead they made a mobile game that's backed by chinese investors to make a chinese game.
The actual mechanics of starcraft 2 are usually pretty well balanced, but maps I think are the core fricker of all strategy. They are all the exact same map, but slightly differently arrayed, no 3-4 island bases, no massive obstacles, just endless chokes and open areas, chokes and open areas, main base separated by a ramp, natural separated by a ramp, third base on flat ground or with an optional secondary route of entry. It's all the same shit over and over, sure it's going to have diehards, but its boring as frick after a year or so.
Your action economy like chrono and inject are important, the problem is the action economy has become moronic for terran and zerg, while the action economy for protoss is disgustingly difficult. The action economy has tilted due to perceived imbalance of protoss deathballs being too strong, when in reality it is their only end game tool. Skewing Protoss as a gimmick race over time, and Terran and Zerg being the only real races in sc2.

So I take that the difference between low GMs to high GMs is more about speed than anything? Recently there was a guy that got into GM just by using the same strategy, he got so good at it though that no one could mimic him. Harstem interviewed him, it's hilarious.

They only put those mechanics into the game because MBS, infinite control groups, and smart casting gave high APM players with nothing left to do, so they had to add additional mechanics for them. Yes, that's what I imagined. Also I think that they did it so you'd have an excuse to visit your main base from time to time. I guess that they really should focus on the strategy part of the game, instead of route memorization/execution of a meta. These mechanics always felt wrong, they were created for the wrong reason.

NTA, but no, that's the hilarious part of it all. Innovation comes from amateurs who have no other way of competing but to try and find a cheese that works against the meta. For an actual pro player, his time is much better spent just playing endless games of whatever's the meta in order to perfect the execution. If/when cheese gets found it then gets picked up by the pros and it trickles down until it becomes the new meta.
Do you think randomization would help where the focus is on map/location/points of interest generation while trying to remain fair for both players involved?
I'm expecting to see this becoming a thing as AI gets more advanced, allowing a RTS to have both static maps as well as a AI-generated pool that keeps expanding and become more intricate as more content gets added to the game.

Why do they always try to milk the cow that's already been milked to death?
Why don't they try to use something as base that has never been extensively tried yet and still has a lot of potential for discovery and creativity?
Take Metal Fatigue for example. A /m/echa RTS with 3 different "layers". Ground where everything goes, sky where only flying vehicles and mecha can operate, and the underground which is intraverseable for mecha. Also being able to customize each mecha with different types of parts, being able to capture and reverse engineer mecha-part technology from defeated enemy mecha, or even directly equip parts from fallen friendly or enemy mecha right on the battlefield.
There is so much potential in this but no one ever seemed to have explored that angle before, especially not for RTS. How about trying that instead of going for another Starcraft clone that no one is asking for again?

Youtubers and failed pro players will try super hard to shill Stormgate because they have vested interest in its success. The profit margins from making SC2 content and playing professional SC2 has diminished now that only the autists and hardcores are still playing it. The viewership and prize money there is no longer a money ticket. Stormgate could be the next big goldmine for youtubers and wannabee pros if it blows up. Hundreds of thousands of views per video for months or even years if it's the next big thing, big cash prizes for tournaments.
That's why you'll see a lot of initial shilling for Stormgate right out the gate. Once that initial period wears off and everyone realizes it won't save RTS or make money through youtube channels, the crowd will disperse. I think The RTS autists will go back to Brood War or SC2 or they'll wait for the next RTS to see if it's any better, most youtubers and pros will do the walk of shame back to their usual content.
Played a bunch of games and my verdict from a broodwargay is that it fricking sucks.
They casualised every mechanic to a point where macro and combat are unsatisfying since the game basically plays itself, also there's no real reason to fight over terrain so they added creep camps, but you're just fighting over small bonuses so it's not like Warcraft 3 where they power up your heroes and shit. It also seems to lack different tech paths, at least as Infernals I just end up getting a little of everything every game, and I couldn't find any way to upgrade attack/armor for my units so I think that isn't in the game. It just comes down to two blobs of units fighting in the middle of the map, then it snowballs from there. It's the worst elements of Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 combined in one game.
If they are expecting this game to become an "e-sport" they are in for a rough awakening. People are just going to play it for a week, get bored and go back to their 25 year old RTS of choice.

My guy we invented procedural generated maps back in Age of Empires, that's not the problem.

For a "social" RTS there is a massive lack of social features, it likely won't even include general chat, arcade chat, co-op chat, etc. So far FGS is blowing it. I'm just getting really bad vibes from the time i've spent on the beta so far.

I said it last year and I'll say it again:
Youtubers and failed pro players will try super hard to shill Stormgate because they have vested interest in its success. The profit margins from making SC2 content and playing professional SC2 has diminished now that only the autists and hardcores are still playing it. The viewership and prize money there is no longer a money ticket. Stormgate could be the next big goldmine for youtubers and wannabee pros if it blows up. Hundreds of thousands of views per video for months or even years if it's the next big thing, big cash prizes for tournaments.
That's why you'll see a lot of initial shilling for Stormgate right out the gate. Once that initial period wears off and everyone realizes it won't save RTS or make money through youtube channels, the crowd will disperse. I think The RTS autists will go back to Brood War or SC2 or they'll wait for the next RTS to see if it's any better, most youtubers and pros will do the walk of shame back to their usual content.

Played a bunch of games and my verdict from a broodwargay is that it fricking sucks.
They casualised every mechanic to a point where macro and combat are unsatisfying since the game basically plays itself, also there's no real reason to fight over terrain so they added creep camps, but you're just fighting over small bonuses so it's not like Warcraft 3 where they power up your heroes and shit. It also seems to lack different tech paths, at least as Infernals I just end up getting a little of everything every game, and I couldn't find any way to upgrade attack/armor for my units so I think that isn't in the game. It just comes down to two blobs of units fighting in the middle of the map, then it snowballs from there. It's the worst elements of Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 combined in one game.
