The carrier in all of its forms has been my favorite unit in any RTS game. Overwhelming the ememy with lots of little weak units it deploys to sting at them until they die.
Whether they're the sea, air or space kind, what are the best games for the "build a lot of carriers" experience?
sins of a solar empire, carrier spam was viable at one point iirc.
Did they ever fix it? Early on bombers would just wreck anything while carriers could kite. I know they added in corvettes or something but people started spamming them and I haven't really paid attention since then. Did they nerf strikecraft into uselessness?
>The original Carrier looked more organic looking and even reminded me of some flying sea creature.
The protoss aren't zerg so SC2 sounds better.
Sins is the best, or was the best?
>The protoss aren't zerg so SC2 sounds better.
Your ignorance is beyond the wildest of comprehensions.
>I swear you can get carriers that look like the SC1 ones, just not in the campaign.
Shame indeed.
>carriers in sc2 also feel more anemic. they never seem to cover the screen in an interceptor swarm like sc1 carriers do, it always feels like there's like 5 interceptors in the air. probably good for gameplay purposes like readability i guess, but less like what op is looking for
It was fun to have 12 flying hornet nests with 8 interceptors each fill the screen so hard anything was barely readable.
I hate the SCII aesthetics. Especially the Protoss ones.
The original Carrier looked more organic looking and even reminded me of some flying sea creature.
The one in OP's pic looks like some bonafied toy.

That's more because lower screen resolutions back in the day combined with the size of carriers meant that shit was going to fill the screen real fricking fast.
this is the same type of logic like "people in the past didn't age faster, they just look older in photos because of clothes and hairstyles" and i don't buy it, rabbi.
>"people in the past didn't age faster, they just look older in photos because of clothes and hairstyles"
But the video that talks about that also makes the point that yes, we ARE staying youthful longer because most of us don't smoke and actually use sunscreen. Doesn't change that fashion from the past makes us look older than we are.
there's a video? that's good to hear about what the video says, shame most people skip over that part when they bring up this argument then.
>there's a video?
Yeah it's a Vsauce video on that subject from like 2 years ago.
Star Wars EAW.
I love Empire At War but its "carriers" are basically just there to supplement the ship's power, they aren't the bulk of its power. Unless you're talking about from an overhaul mod.
What about Sins Rebellion?
Scrin's planetary assault carrier in Kane's Wrath. Deploy the fleet (8 or so fighters/vertebrae detach from the thing) then once you park you go into defense mode, whereby a forcefield is generated along with a highly destructive thunderstorm which seriously fricks any enemy unit or structures below. Fragile in transit but they're beastly if you're actively paying attention to their surroundings.
rise of nations
bonus points if you tech up to carriers faster than your opponents so they try to shoot them down with arrows
Whoops! All gunships!
I think carriers work best when aircraft/strikecraft units are a distinct unit and can be built separate from carriers, simply because they're designed as actual units instead of an afterthought or as a flavored type of weapon the carrier uses.
I like the Aircraft Carrier in RA2 with its cute little fighter jets popping out from it.
I, too, love carriers and small ships coming out of a bigger ship to frick shit up. Sadly its usually just a "pet class" in games. Homeworld ruined me. Closest to anything decent for me isn't RTS anymore its Starsector with mods but holy frick that community is rancid.
Line war has pretty cool carriers but sadly it's multiplayer-only.
Star Wars Rebellion
I've won a Rebel campaign using nothing but carriers filled with starfighters. X and Y-Wings together can take on anything
