How braindead are you to not realise how many games support ultrawide now? I’ve been using an ultrawide monitor probably since 2016? And most games that don’t natively support it can be modded lmao
Spares. Backups. Purpose built rigs that do not require the latest hardware. I used old parts to build a NAS and a dedicated emulation rig. Also built small machines on my LAN for this or that.

>expecting it to run at 60FPS
VRAM usage is completely independent of frame rate
Either you have enough and the game will run, or you don't and the game will either crash or plummet down to the single digits
Not true
You even just said “single digits” which I’m guessing is to do with FPS
You’ll also get lower res textures/texture pop in depending on the game
>Not true
It is true >I’m guessing is to do with FPS
Yes but it's not a matter of >oh I don't have enough VRAM, well playing at 50fps is fine for this game
It will be >I don't have enough VRAM, the game is now unplayable and is a literal slideshow
You specifying 60fps in terms of running out of VRAM shows you have no idea what actually running out means

?si=z8x9hcX7xhHGg5Qo
Skip to 4:06 >ahhh oh no slideshow
When settings of the game with like ultra textures requires 11.9GB of vram and you only got 10GB of vram the 1.9GB of extra shit will be swaped from system ram. (not exactly how it works but something like that in principle).
So the latency of reading from RAM and all that goes into the final fps.
Not much of a problem if you aim at 60fps, and have 16.7ms until next frame needs to be rendered.
But when you want that 125fps or 144 or 240 than you gotta have that all fit in under 8ms or 7 or 5.
Like some npc in a car appears down the street. That car asset, the model, the texture, evrything has to be in vram to be drawn. But when it was out of your fov and out lod occlusion area it could be in ram or on the ssd.
But if your gpu vram is full something else has to be removed to load in the car asset data. So you got more data clogged in the bus
The new series should be coming out in the next year or two, so wait. Not for those cards, but hopefully that would drive the 4070 down a bit in price. The 1660 is still perfect for 1080 gaming.
There's a very simple tip for that:
Is there a game you want to play that your card can't do in a level you find acceptable?
If yes, upgrade.
I've been on 1440p144hz for years now but I grew up with a toaster so I can deal with it. It is getting a little annoying playing shitty survival games with friends and I can't see something when they ask me "yo what's that?" because my foliage is off or "damn what's that in the distance?" because my draw distance is set to minimum. Not to mention the absolute state of optimization nowadays and 1600x900 @ 80% res can't even get a stable 60fps now.
I'm really hoping the 5000 series drops the 4070 at least 50 or (hopefully) 100 bucks though. HUUUUFFFF
And even then 12gb seems like a pain in the ass because I also want to do vr and finally play older games like witcher2/3 at decent graphics/fps/resolution.
>from 6GB vram to 12GB >from 1408 turing cores to 5888 ada cores >from no rtx to rtx
On paper its a huge upgrade and looks well worth the $500 but in reality you will regret not getting 16GB vram.
>t. launch 3080 bro
How long do I have before I have to upgrade to hit 60 FPS/1440p in most titles? Let's use whatever Resident Evil game is out as the baseline benchmark.
4K? Probably one of the 4070s with 16GB of VRAM. I think I’d go with the 4070TI Super. You might be able to get away with less. I’m sure other anons can correct me
Depends on your budget
Off the top of my head I’d go with a Ryzen 7600 and 32GB of RAM on B650 series motherboard. Yeah 16GB of RAM is fine but I’d wanna have 32.

They're cheaper, require less power and outperform Intel CPU's. You'd have to be stupid not to buy them. GPU's are a different story, last good AMD gpu was 5700XT and they made it good on accident, it was a broken clock kind of situation.
