RTX and DLSS

I hate DLSS. Devs are creating games nobody can run, so you have to apply fake frames for the stuff to run. Non sense.

RTX at least, I can see an appeal if the game is built with it from the ground up because it can be an artistic choice on how the shadows and lightings are supposed to be. DLSS on the other way, it's just a subtle pixel mud bath slowly creeping in.

Reminds me of people saying "your eyes can't see beyond 30fps". I knew a guy who could not go back to Rocket League at 144fps after trying 240fps g-sync as 144fps would be a diaporama for him.
The same is happening with DLSS. Creating slop gamers with a bad eyesight and subpar artistic tastes.

So the question : is DLSS just a fad and how long will it last?

Can you name three games that devs intentionally made with such poor GPU performance that DLSS was intended to be used?

There's loads of unoptimized games of course but most of them are either overly CPU demanding or have engine issues like the Unreal stutter. Both unrelated to DLSS and their flaws not fixed by it.

People talk so much about devs using upscaling as an intentional crutch but I can only think of one game that intentionally built around upscaling, Lords of the Fallen.

I think you answered your own question. DLSS is used as a band aid to fix unoptimized stuff, whatever the source is. Therefore it's a tech used to fix shit that should be fixed in the first place.

I think I can say from your post that I don't hate DLSS primarily, but I hate bad optimization, but I had to draw a line.

      Cyberpunk, Starfield (FSR), Tekken 8.
The latter doesn't even have performance problems, but you literally can't disable DLSS/FSR in-game and need to do it through the .ini.

Upgrade your screen beyond 1080p 60hz and suddenly DLSS doesn't look bad at all.

RTX is the meme that hasn't produced anything impressive besides maybe the reflections in Control.

The way you look at it is:
    >Dev intentionally makes too demanding a game and softens the blow with DLSS
the way I look at it is:
    >Dev tries his best to make a visually impressive game and improves the performance further with DLSS

It's technology like DLSS that allows future games to run on systems that do not cost ridiculous sums, AI generation being in the forefront of this endeavour. We got nanite geometry as well. We need more and better systems to allow games to be developed into massive or incredibly intricate with tons of detail without impact on performance.

Personally I don't give a frick about future games, as I'm playing older games and those do not require a beefy PC to begin with, but every few years or so, one game comes that I'd like to try.

The funniest thing that came of DF's latest vid was that the only people complaining about DLSS are resolutionlets stuck on sub-1440p but to nobodies surprise, upscaling from incredibly low resolutions doesn't look good.
Meanwhile, DLSS looks better than native at 1440p / 4k.

They mostly talk about FSR being shit at lower resolutions and being better at higher native res, like 1080 -> 1440p. Also its used in connection with devs optimizing consoles at pushing too much detail in their games and hoping the fsr will solve the performance by running the game around 720p-960p territory and upscaling that to 4k.

DLSS meanwhile works better at lower native res.

Grafix memes have gone on absolute overdrive the last few years. And it feels even worse because grafixgayging in the year 2000 at least brought you noticeable steps forward in fidelity / art design. These days the steps forward are "RTX ON before/after" pictures that look the fricking same

Ground breaking proprietary nvidia tech injects realism AI into each frames, all frames have up to 20% (35% with a RTX 4080) more realism per pixels. AMD simply can't compete, AMD has an average of 32% less realism per pixel over a RTX 4080.

"Unobtainium" settings in Avatar don't even make much of a difference, overdrive in Cybertroony is making noticeable difference. At the cost of 75% of performance.
Games target cucksoles and mostly don't come with any major improvements over those versions.
If you are killing the performance as developer at least give me something in return.

              Anonymous

Not really. It might reduce it a bit but ghosting is always going to happen with TAA due to the way it works, using information from past frames. Especially at lower framerates since it has less frames to work with.

It's one of these things you have to see with your own eyes to believe. Optimizing games for ray tracing is the way to go, and DLSS makes it work much better than the alternatives.
