Why are modern game developers obsessed with removing the entire core identity of their series? The mazelike level design was one of the few things that made Tomb Raider stand out from other third person shooters/platformers.
Well I've played the OG Tomb Raider when it first came out AND Anniversary and I like them both for what they are. Never cared for any TR after 3 though.

AOD was cooked with the wrong recipe. They should've kept the old controls or used the new ones. Being a stepping stone is one of the things that ruined it. The other one was that dude we were forced to play with.

2. Angel of Darkness
and 2 was partially caused by 1.
the classic TR gameplay could have survived 6th gen if they had updated the graphics and physics properly instead of whatever the frick AoD was.
Chronicles should have never been made and Lara's Triumphant return should have been saved for the Next Gen consoles. And Eidos meddled heavily in Angel of Darkness.

there is, the series is just riddled with bad controls. i fairly recently replayed tr1 and its actually a well designed game, it just plays like dogshit. i didnt get very far, despite wanting to, because the keyboard-only layout literally made my hands ache and running jumps are infuriatingly finnicky. id love an original trilogy remaster with modernized controls. not completely redone into nuraider style, but just smoothed out.

I just finished Tomb Raider 2 and I thought it was pretty good. I think the over abundance of enemies & less ""Tombs"" kinda made it less enjoyable for me compared to 1 though. Not sure what to expect with 3.
legend is short and simplistic but it's got the cinematic aesthetics nailed. besides the constant radio chatter, it's a version of lara that works from an aesthetic pov (unlike the 2013 version). Badass, rich, confident, modern
anniversary may not be the original but it's still a good game made with love and a desire to pay respect while giving a twist to the levels. It also has meaty levels unlike legend. Overall the best of that trilogy
Underworld is unfinished and unpolished. The story payoffs are horribly disappointing. The only good thing about the game is the scale of the level concepts. Some really great environments and ideas - too bad the gameplay and story as so terrible

I've only played the reboot trilogy and the entire TR franchise is on sale on Steam right now. I'm thinking about buying either Anniversary, Legend, or Underworld but don't know which one to get. Which one is the best? Do they follow a storyline or can I play them in any order?
If there is in fact a new game in the works and Embracer hasn't shut it down due to them bleeding money, then they should absolutely bring back Croft Manor and make it bigger and filled with more secrets than ever.

The Last Revelation is the best classic game. Anniversary is the best of the LAU Trilogy. Gun to my head Rise is the best of the Nu Trilogy.
