It's kind of sad that the meta always changes by dev meddling. Usually blizzard style where they whack a mole things then make other things better endlessly without getting anywhere close to balancing it. I'd prefer seeing goofy shit overcoming the fotm builds or so many choices that it's different between matches. Usually it's one way or no way
Well meta can't exist only if the game is perfectly balances so "how" you do it is more important than "what" you do. Balance is hard man.

This is just what we do, you will find no area of human existence where we don't try to perfect it and break it down to its component parts.
And yes, I do enjoy playing styles and strategies I enjoy the most personally instead of just being a true meta slave (I run melee in FPS games, shields in FPS games etc) but its just human nature to do what is the strongest.

Meta isn't an acronym, it's shorthand for "metagame," and it's something that is literally unavoidable in anything that has more than one option. There will always be a most optimal way to play something.
I don't play MP games for the most part, but metagays in SP games are hilariously pathetic. Especially the ones who think you literally can't beat the game if you don't follow the meta. It really speaks to their skill level. I usually just play however I feel like, and sometimes I will intentionally play off-meta for the challenge.
