old style mmo with low system requirements, quirky vintage+brit charm
its the only mmo with real quests that arent (go here, collect x, kill y, talk to z)
like any mmo, people like to see number get big
it also technically has "full loot" pvp but only in certain spots and people actually like doing it because its not a huge setback if you die, which is what other 'muh hardcore loot pvp' games dont get, no one wants to waste hours of their lives to get spawncamped and griefed by people nolifing with their clan
The game isn't what it used to be and sucks ass. Your only options for enjoying this game are DESPERATELY pretending it's still the same old RS2, or else just accepting that it's a shitty zoomer MMO for poors who can't afford a better game and botters.
I barely thought it would live up to the hype, let alone exceed it. I've been playing for twelve hours straight across only about five islands, and it has been absolutely and utterly humbling. My breath is being taken away at every turn.
I just drowned trying desperately to make my way out of a dark underwater cave on a cold, lonely, massive island, with ominous growling startling me from far across some rocky, eroded mountains against the backdrop of a massive dark blue sky. Earlier I was marveling at a herd of grazing antelope-like PaIs on a little yellow paradise of an island with a pink sky. PaIs were screeching in the distance and tinkling piano chords played in the background.
I very much appreciate the technical and leveling aspects such as taming and trading, but most of all, this game has been an extremely emotional experience for me so far. I could barely pull myself away from my first base once it reached level 10. No matter what I'm looking at, I have this excitement and this wonder and frustration that I am inevitably missing so much. I have never, EVER felt this lost. PaIworId just beckons, wordlessly. What a beautiful, beautiful, titanic game. I have no words.
Enjoy, everyone. And thank you, Mizobe and Pocketpalr. Jeez Louise.
>stop avatar gayging
You think that's bad, you should see the avatargay on /wsg/. That homosexual has been going on for more than two years, shitting up threads with offtopic webms.
The core gameplay itself is fricking horrendous, it's basically grinding in a clicker/idle game except that it prohibits you from disengaging or automating the braindead process that is most of the skills itg. That's the reason bots and macros have always been a problem for runescape. However I wouldn't heed the words of most of the other people itt so far(or that will) talk about the autist xp grinders/skillers/ironman or their xp leader boards. Focusing heavily in that aspect of the game is definitely the majority for the veteran community members, but you certainly don't have to play like them nor is the majority of the games actual content like that.
You can go questing, play mini games and some other activities. But in general, unless you have nostalgia for it like I do(played it early 2000s as a kid) then there won't be much of a draw for you.
For me just nostalgia. It was the first online MMO I had ever seen before and I was enthralled as a kid, even though it took my pc like 30 minutes to load the game each time. I've played osrs for a bit here and there as an adult and while it's a huge nostalgia blast, the game is pretty boring yet satisfying if you have Number Go Up autism. Kind of like a cookie clicker RPG
>Finish up all the quests in F2P (except the high-level one that seems like a b***h to grind up to in f2p) and have fun >Frick it, buy a month of membership >Grind agility for 3 hours and stop playing
Runescape is what I wish other MMOs were, just preferably with gameplay more involved than a bathtub ringtoss toy
>Finish up all the quests in F2P (except the high-level one that seems like a b***h to grind up to in f2p) and have fun >Frick it, buy a month of membership >Grind agility for 3 hours and stop playing

You got filtered hard. What you should do is to start questing the second you get membership.
Just enjoy the moronic 2000s bong humour

The appeal WAS a free online persistent world with low hardware and bandwidth requirements back when that sort of thing was rare.
There's no appeal now.
a lot of us are just play for nostalgia, having everything in game we dreamed as a kid but were too stupid to get. other than that it's just the most comfy game ever, just put any show on and get your skills up
it used to be a wonderful browser game where random people around the world would talk to you while you were skilling and you could collaborate on fighting giant moss giants in a sewer, trading or buying goods, or fishing lobsters at catherby
now its a library where everyone has turned off public chat because talking is xp waste or some moronic shit and theyll all min max for the most efficient xp/hour so number can go up. The GE has made 90% of the game world dead and """people""" are fine with that because theyd rather have one step instant gratification then do anything themselves, or worse, talk to other players because theyre too stupid to haggle or recognize a scam
>played it as a kid >game is fundamentally the same as 2007 >meta and optimal strats have been figured out >you can achieve all the things you were too stupid or bad at as a kid >good (but grindy) progression trees >not shit quests >not shit pvp >self restriction modes >still getting big & small updates
For an MMO and grindy game there isn't really a competitor but it's understandable if the graphics turn you off or you can't stand having zero run energy and getting anywhere takes forever

This game, man.

it used to be a pretty unique game but they've slowly stripped away everything that made osrs unique over the years
stop avatar gayging... holy cringe
wanna say shlomo the chomosexual again, mayhaps?

bong humor isn't funny unless you're a troony
rent free, filtered, map coz mad
When will runescape add more realistic character customization for us, sisters? I'm just not feeling represented enough.
It's for poor people and browns using the public library.
Literally. I'd get her to go after people who scammed my dumb ass too, honestly it was kino.

The appeal is that I can change what victimized class I belong to with a mere click.
