The mines are good once you learn the timing and the behaviour of certain enemies. There is always a full second or two once the mine is deployed before it is active, you are probably encountering the Hibernators walking straight over them. If you ever mess up a mine drop against an enemy, leave the area and come back and the enemy's position will be reset and the mine will be fully active. Mines are also good for enemy spawn points in areas you have to backtrack through, but that requires foresight.
>stingy with ammo
There are two levels with Hibernators that end up draining your ammo quite easily because they move around so much, if you've been collecting cubes though you should have the Single Laser by the end of these two levels. You can headshot these enemies to make killing them more quickly.
I beat the game, didn't like it. Oh well.
I do know that the mines have a deployment delay and activation time but some enemies will get themselves stuck around corners and won't walk into them most of the time. >You can headshot these enemies
The game has an autoaim lock on feature that fricks with the aiming a lot, but once I got the double laser I didn't need any other weapon.

Yeah, I like the game but the Double Laser basically makes it into a cakewalk.
Explosions in early fps games in general were horrible really. They were unpredictable and half baked moronic mechanics put in the games to have a le cool Hollywood type explosion in them.
Not sure what you're talking about there. Doomguy's Rocket Launcher, Duke's RPG, Caleb's TNT/Napalm, and Lo Wang's Grenade Launcher/Rocket Launcher all do exactly what's needed.
Tripmines caused my death 3 out of 3 occasions when I used it in Duke3d. Sometimes it works but 90% of the time when I die, I die becuase of my own tripmine.
Running out of ammo completely for a weapon was a design choice that forced you to diversify your arsenal and think about how to better utilize other weapons.
back in the day it was
it was considered to be a good mechanic
you see the majority of players weren't normies and the games were yet to be dumbed down to their level
yes i hate "universal ammo" in Deus Sex 2. won't be so bad if i could carry 100s of bullets for the pistol like in D-Sex 1, but nope! you only get like 15 shots with the "universal ammo" on a pistol, and that ammo is shared with all your other guns for some insane reason. sniper rifle? 5 shots.
so i guess the nanotech sword is "basic" weapon in that game now. is that how it works?
>calling vague imagined enemies "contrarians" when it's obvious you're the one displaying a stunted, minority opinion based on personal grievance more than any sense of game analysis or design
Don't use words incorrectly to try and artificially support bad ideas.
use explosives more often
I'm playing a game that only has one weapon and some shitty mines that don't work
Are you playing Lifeforce Tenka?
I am playing fricking Lifeforce Tenka.
The acid spitters were a b***h to kill and the game is stingy with ammo. I got gud though.

shitty game design 101
Please explain to the class how using other weapons in your arsenal is bad design.
I guess holding M1 for every fight ever is superior?

pipe bombs were great. Tripmines were pretty shit though

You're an idiot who has no idea what they're talking about.
Doom had explosives and they were entirely predictable. Also have no idea what you mean by "half-baked".
I think he means that before rocket jumping (or jumping at all) and without y look it was pretty horrible
if you didnt do pistol start everywhere you didnt beat the game
is it just me or do the rock walls in the back look like a bunch of asses

Of course it was a good idea.

>don't want to waste ammo
>melee everything to death
>don't want to waste healthpacks so reload if I take damage
literally my life
you're the type to save every penny for retirement arent you
>anon why aren't you using any of your elixirs
>>I don't want to waste them
>anon it's the final boss
I keep starter equipment for sentimental reasons
was it a good idea to run out of ammo? no it wasn't a good idea for you to do that, that means you suck. try not to do it, moron

No. The contrarians here may disagree, but frick em.

Yes, in fact it's a great idea. Managing your resources is part of what "gitting gud" entails.
You're bad at video games, so you look for excuses to justify your own lack of skill.
Recharges automatically over time in your path. Yeah yeah, I know, you can't hit shit most of the time with it, but at least it's something.
