I'm sure a large amount of people that still care were people that watched when Monty Oum was involved or people that were roped into watching it because of others jacking off the animation and how "epic" the battle scenes were. Along the way people somehow got invested in the shitty characters and just wanted to see it through to the end.
Dead Fantasy was actually good so people were expecting a good show when Monty Oum actually started working on his own IP, but when RWBY turned out to be a dumpster garbage people kept watching just to see how it'd wreck.

The first two are easy to understand, as said it's the same reason so many bad anime still get viewership. You think people would have actually enjoyed that horse-girl racing shit if it wasn't pure waifu bait first and foremost?
And then there's potential in that it inspires. The fan base of this show can actually be very fricking creative, even moreso when compared to the wasted ideas within the show itself. Fricking hell, one of the best fanfictions I've read is a damn MLP crossover. Even people who fricking hate pony shit have admitted it's a miles better retelling than the show gave us.
Too bad the worst people to guide the show are the ones who inherited it.

ATLA was a great premise from the start and only really suffered in Book One from Nick insisting they make it easy to serialize. Books 2 and 3 are close to immaculate. It’s honestly just a really tightly designed show, can’t praise it enough.
When it was one dude with 80% of the creative control just being allowed to make the thing he wanted to watch, with no illusions about being something bigger, I was into it. Then literally the second Monty died the remaining writing staff decided "hey you know what this mediocre battle shonen story needs? More plot, less fight scenes, and worse fights when they actually happen!"
Now after years of waiting for shit to improve, we've had an entire volume and multiple characters flushed down the drain over a fricking real-world political message, as though these fricks can actually affect change with their moronic stories.
And yet it costs me nothing to at least find some place that streams every new volume for free, so I keep up with it so I can have full context about the surprising amount of porn people make.
tl;dr: Sunk cost and porn is why I keep up with it, no idea why anyone would put money into it other than stupidity or actually buying into the politics

RWBY is and will always be shit. It was only passable when it started because there was nothing out there at the same production value at the time and it ticked all the boxes for its autistic weeb audience (IE: girls, fighting, highschool, superpowers, guns). Yang is still sexy as frick though.

the camera work in the first few seasons was significantly more dynamic and alive than in later ones
scenes were framed properly, emotional scenes would have appropriate panning to emphasize the movements of the characters, it was just much nicer
i saw a comparison somewhere of rn older scene where i think yang's upset vs a modern scene where ruby's freaking the frick out, and the little bit of panning in the yang one let them fill the screen with her face and emphasized the emotionality of the scene, while the rwby one had the camera sit perfectly still, dead center, perfectly level, zoomed out so it could fit rwby's head shaking around.
this little clip here when rwby's looking up crying when she sees the mouse is a good example, the camera is dead still. most of the shots in the teaser are the same, pans only when necessary, very static. it hurts the show a lot.

It means cozy and pleasant, heart-warming in a way. I remember how charming it was to play as RWBY models and explore these underdeveloped but colorful levels straight out of the show with a silly story and dialogue.

I know that the concept of enjoying something despite its flaws is an alien concept around here and you must either zealously worship the subject as flawless masterpiece or fervently hate it as irredeemable garbage with no middle ground, but RWBY is average to decent by anime standards. RWBY is and will always be shit. It was only passable when it started because there was nothing out there at the same production value at the time and it ticked all the boxes for its autistic weeb audience (IE: girls, fighting, highschool, superpowers, guns). Yang is still sexy as frick though.

the choreography was obviously way better but the unsung hero of early rwby was the cameraman
the camera work in the first few seasons was significantly more dynamic and alive than in later ones
scenes were framed properly, emotional scenes would have appropriate panning to emphasize the movements of the characters, it was just much nicer
i saw a comparison somewhere of rn older scene where i think yang's upset vs a modern scene where ruby's freaking the frick out, and the little bit of panning in the yang one let them fill the screen with her face and emphasized the emotionality of the scene, while the rwby one had the camera sit perfectly still, dead center, perfectly level, zoomed out so it could fit rwby's head shaking around.
this little clip here when rwby's looking up crying when she sees the mouse is a good example, the camera is dead still. most of the shots in the teaser are the same, pans only when necessary, very static. it hurts the show a lot.

It means cozy and pleasant, heart-warming in a way. I remember how charming it was to play as RWBY models and explore these underdeveloped but colorful levels straight out of the show with a silly story and dialogue.
