okay? they're still both under the rpg umbrella whether you like it or not.
this is like b***hing about someone saying they like signalis better than RE4 remake because one is isometric and one is tps
>muh trial
Frick off. At least say Growlanser, which is a better JRPG franchise and closer to cRPGs. It has choices that determines what endings you'd get, actually needs the player to use tactics to get over difficult challenges like (optionally) save innocent civilians or grabbing rare items before they get destroyed by the time. Although, it's closer to Pathfinder since you'd have to buff everyone in the party before you go fighting. And it takes a long time to buff everyone.
We are actually considering this game as the new standard western developers will have to look up to as a quality game to make, or are you just shitposting? In a world where thing's getting more insane, it's hard to tell when someone's being sarcastic or are they being facetious.
I would never ever expect same level of character depth, technical and presentation competence from any jap rpg
Boy, I was seeing some signs of plebs enjoying bad games even years prior but I guess I'm just wired to different type of games. Maybe I guess I'm lucky that I don't have much interest for sex simulator slop barely disguised as sloppily put together D&D they advertise as best game ever. Phew, I'm glad I'm basically immune to hype westerners try to generate.
This, but >See someone praise the game while badmouthing AAAs in the same sentence
Jesus Christ, do people not have self respect to see older good media for once in their fricking lives? Does it always have to be muh AAAs?
i guess its a cultural thing, mother 3 (i dont know if you ever played it or earthbound) wasn't received quite as well since itoi aped most of the game from a series of french novels, so it was really a story more geared towards western thought and taste
Jap players hates complexity in gameplay above all else. All their games requires everything to be as oversimplified as humanly possible.
i thought asians were supposed to be good at math? d&d is luck based sure but if you know how the math works you can build to consistently get desireable outcomes
if i wanted to play a tabletop game, i would just play an actual tabletop game and not a simulation of one
>he didnt play with his d&d bros and treat it as like a 4p interactive 5e module
It's literally the best and most innovative RPG ever made. Why wouldnt it be a good standard?
>privately owned >larian has done nothing but CRPGs and playtest their adaptation of DND 5E (except maybe dragon commander) >far as I know, they don't suffer frequent losses in manpower and experience
>publicly traded >studios constantly having attrition because of upper level management and frustrations of working with new hires that eventually pack their bags and frick off to do something better with their skills
It's not a good standard and it is very likely that this will not cause some kind of industry wide pause on (pre)production in order to assess why Larian made a viral success. It is an anomaly in AAAs, yes, but it is not representative of what companies should do to make money in video games. Just because something is logical or clear cut will mean something logical or clear cut will happen, because decisionmaking is out of the hands of the developers.
Closest thing that will guarantee accountability and quality work from devs is unionization. >International Association of Coders 111 (IAC111) frick up badly while supporting Game 2024 >Publicly traded company fricks over the union in the process and gets a discount on labor until IAC111 gets their shit together or they do business elsewhere
a cursory glance at the disgaea series not only shows a prevelance toward tiny thottie hottie shawties but also a thorough Solving of the tactical rpg gameloop
>thorough Solving of the tactical rpg gameloop
Japs don't like solving dynamic problems. They want a clear set of optimal choices to take in repetition for the entirety
You're right, they made one that's twice as good and it's called Persona 5. It doesn't have any bugs or performance issues past a certain point, either. People still remember and talk about P5. People will forget about BG3 within the year.

Anime, nintendo, jrpgs and japanese crossdressing troony trap sissy shit has been 10000x more detrimental towards autistic basement dwelling men turning into trannies than BG3 will ever be. Sit down troony.

The PF games sold enough in Japan to warrant an official translation and one of the most popular modern manga is by a woman who fricking loves BG 1&2
All of those games are far more complex than BG3, the Final Fantasy of warpigs.
i considered it, but either way it only has 41 ratings, so maybe some small listing.
anyway, i do want to see some real rating, especially not for a PS5 sale.

Why are you trying to cope?
I actually watched a Japanese youtuber try playing Baldur's Gate 3. It did not look good. It was a real strugle for the dude, like he's never played a cRPG before. He also never realized all the interactions Larian games give you and was playing in the most straightforward smash your head into the wall way. I fully understand why Japanese players that are used to Nintendo games for kids would have trouble playing something like BG3.
Japanese suck at both shooters and CRPG's, Deus Ex is both so they have to make the game extra easy. Aiming? Too hard. Freedom? Too hard. Mouse interface? Too hard.

Why is Apex so popular in Japan then? >Mouse interface? Too hard.
Japan has a really weird way they implement mouse in their games. Play any PC Falcom game, and it lets you play the entire game with a mouse. It's a bit of a chore, but it's an option.

Strange mouse is such a universal simple tool why would they do that?
Japs dont place the same values on games as westerners. They dont brag about beating bots in souls games as if its a badge of honor, they dont form cringe failed consumer boycotts over trannies or lack of trannies. If they decide to play a hard game they just keep quiet about it or share within the respective community about a challenge they decided to undertake. Majority of them are casuals who genuinely believe games should be fun. Thats why they all react like basedpiggies when there is an explosions on screen, cause theyre joking around and having fun.
Baldurs Gate probably isnt fun enougj to the average Jap.

Anonymous
>my source is that I made it the frick up
Japs love to brag, they just favor humblebragging.
Japs boycott over the most asinine shit, even worse than troonyshit.
All casuals want games to be “fun”. The problem is that “fun” to them is boring to anyone with more than 1 brain cell
Baldur’s Gate 3 has received this reaction because it flies in the face of 40 years of cultural conditioning. In Japan RPGs are supposed to be a certain way and CRPGs fly in the face of that.
>Door immunity removed >4x damage modifier in easy >Weapon damage increased 2.5x >Passive 40% DR always >Energy drain rare halved
Theyre just oneshotting shit with their brains turned off and by passing door puzzles by making doors always take damage
No wonder the poor fricks are bored
It's one of those "you meet one, you think you've met them all" situations.
Most people are only exposed to the handful of autismo pro players from Japan and assume the rest of them must be inherently just as good.
Now that i think about it... to get better at Baldur's Gate 3 you need to change your way of thinking and get a greater understanding of the mechanics. You can't get better at the game by just mechanically repeating the same action. So BG3 will probably be popular among Japanese players that are more into tactical games like Tactics Ogre/Advance Wars and similar.
It is genuinely sad how they are so used to half assed RPGs. Saw one nip on twitter go through most of act 1 with only 2 companions because he didn't know you were able to recruit anyone else.
I've seen other streamers do that too(american streamers). BG3 is just too much for people that are not familiar with the gerne and is filtering them hard whether they are Japanese or not.
If this is their first foray into a genre and the media they consume is heavily different from this of course they're going to be bad at it. It's like a person who mostly plays western games getting filtered by Sekiro/Ninja Gaiden
I hope not. That would be a literal waste. All that freedom of expression trough interaction. Wasted on people that did not bother to learn the game's mechanics. Grim. Truly grim. I wonder how many people in this thread played BG3. Give me a (you) if any of you played the game and i'll ask you all a question.

You can shift+select if i remember corectly so just shift select everything that is not a scroll/potion and ship it to camp. >inb4 what about on console
No idea, i play on PC.
I had neither never played a CRPG before nor was familiar with D&D mechanics in any capacity. When I started I had no idea what the frick 2d4+4, saving throws, spell slots, or cantrips even meant. There was a learning curve for sure but eventually it did all click and I've spent hundreds of hours enjoying the game.
>play JRPG >grind monsters to get higher level >higher level means better stats and damage >play CRPG >you don't grind since enemies don't respawn >level up barely changes anything >there's only 12 levels >can't brute force your way through >have multiple options to do missions instead of collect 20/20 items
no wonder that have trouble
Japanese people are largely fricking terrible at every game ever made and they are genuinely stupid, I don't think it's actually water coming from their taps, but stupid&clumsy juice. Ni gaas can't even play shooters without randomly projectile vomiting all over the room.
Most are entirely content with this though and go "game seemo guudo, demo watashi was too shitto tbh 笑"
I blame nintendo for the state of japanese gaming today. Go back 35 years and the average japanese game was harder than the hardest games today. Nintendo dominating the japanese gaming market via their handhelds raised two generations of inept morons on baby games. The average japgay under 30 probably wouldn't be able to beat FF1 blind.
Until recently, western games never had a large presence in Japan. Until recently, PC gaming never had a large presence in Japan. Until recently, CRPGs were largely a PC only genre and are still primarily PC centric.
So in Japan you’re dealing with a niche of a niche of a niche.
The Japanese and East Asians in general consistently dominate in every single gaming genre from RTS games to Fighter games, what kind of fricking moron would claim they dislike a game because it's too complex?
The first big jrpg you play will always be your favorite one because they all have the exact same plot (be simple know-nothing boy, gather a bunch of misfits then kill god)
Baldurs gate 3 actually gives you options so of course they're afraid of it
What's the point of this board? It's always pepe/wojak wastes, twitter, sale numbers and shit like that. This thread was up all day and here we go for another lap with this one.
Can't you incels talk about shit you like? Are you all women b***hing and talking about drama? Or are you gonna start another 400 replies Starfield threads after this one?
>they now suspect the legitimacy of GOTY awards
what fricking legitimacy?
It's an advertising show that uses awards to pretend it's not just Geoff doing e3
>they never program complex rpg systems
This goes for most developers. Not just the Japanse ones. There is a reason why BG3 and the Divinity:Original Sin 1&2 stand out so much. Nobody else is emulating this level of environment and choice interaction in and out of combat.

I mean the only legit complaints i can see there is that it sucks with a controller and the translation is bad.
but they don't seem to have a fundamental problem with the game itself, more a problem with their playstations lol.
The guy complaining about the gondola or the ladder is one complaint I used to have about the game but forgot about later on. It's really annoying how cumbersome grouping characters is in BG3. It should just be a click-and-drag selection box like every other RPG.
Forgot to mention for context that the game doesn't have a Japanese dub (nor any other dub other than English for that matter). It's only a text translation.
>japanese can't deal with the roll of the dice and living with the outcome
that's an interesting cultural detail, i thought they were all "fate this" and "destiny that"
bg3 is extremely new player friendly game, it has all the gamer science baked in to make sure you get through just fine, cant block your own progression and so on
if you miss out the companions they just find you later, if you kill someone important the game has a backup npc
its not fromsoft game with 1 difficulty option either
>bg3 is extremely new player friendly game >you can lose the game for not making the right choice 20 minutes into the game >you can lose the game for having one of your companions die >you can lose the game for mouthing off in dialogue 40 hours into the game >you can get filtered by the tutorial combat area cambion&ghaik if you try fighting them unprepared(not sure if this is true on lower difficulties i only play on the highest difficulty) >you can get wiped by standing near firewine/gunpowder barrels if you're not familiar with the secrets of barrelmancy >petrification is fun and so is falling into the void(welcome to the Underdark) >traps are fun
stuff that is fixed by reloading a save & the choice is unlikely anyway isnt hostile to newbies
only actual difficult part is the freedom to go anywhere while being underleveled and you can find couple fights in the first chapter impossible
You don't understand, a lot of ''bing bing wahoo'' players are not used to getting hard punished in every combat encounter without knowing why they are failing and get frustrated. I watched some idiot walk trough fire and get mad that his Tav died. People outright go mad and ragequit in the swamp with all the traps. Can you imagine playing jRPGs where ''big number good'' all your life and then you jump onto BG3 where an enemy can just push you off a cliff?
Exactly. JRPG players genuinely aren't used to games with gameplay. And choices? Heeeeell nah. The biggest choice they've had the last 20 games they've played is yes/no where choosing no just forces you into trying again until you choose yes. I can understand japs not liking this, especially if they play on consoles.
That's harsh. They're just not used to NARRATIVE choices. Are you aware JRPGs were originally dubbed Light RPGs because they were aware inspiration as wasn't drawn from tabletop the way it was in the west? Narrative freedom was never really factored in.
>only actual difficult part is the freedom to go anywhere while being underleveled and you can find couple fights in the first chapter impossible
Honestly that was the most fun part gameplay wise for me while playing on normal. I ended up in the underdark at Level 3 and everything was super deadly and dangerous and I had to be costantly on guard for everything it was tense but fun.
After you get to high levels most fights become easy on normal, maybe I should try honor mode next.
>Waaah, the "tempo" is bad and gameplay too hard!!!!
>WTF do you mean I hsve to use my brain and think strategically in combat and be patient, why can't I grind for 3 hours(or pay thousands upon thousands of yen), overlevel and then bash my head into everything easy peasy like in my gachas!
I struggled to keep playing Divinity OS because I realized it was tedious and rote but not very satisfying for the amount of effort I was putting into everything. A lot of things are predetermined to the point of just quickloading to make sure I got the best outcome no matter what, most battles came down to doing the same things over and over again but across 10-20 minutes. The majority of content can be cleared with enough brute force so the gigantic sheets of character choices mattered less to me.

i can't lift a metal gear and throw it into the air IRL nor is there an appropriate system to do so with the same level of satisfaction IRL. BG3 is a simulation of a garbage rulebook with decent visuals but nothing truly breaks out of the confines of the rules as far as I can tell.

Slop jrpgs are actually way simpler and hinge on established tropes. Im jot talking Nier or Final Fantasy Im talking thr forgettable psp era shit where youre just some knight and your childhood friend and love interest is your healer and you go fight the demon lord who destroyed your village.
You gotta understand stuff like Star Ocean is actually interesting swimming among the rest of that slop.

by the way, you can set it to positive reviews and a lot of them are glowing. it's just a matter of japs wanting to get into something popular and finally getting it, but most of these types of people are the same who hate BG3 in the west who are playing fifa and cowadoody instead. TTRPG isn't as popular over there because most of them have no time for it but naturally all the ones who do play some are enjoying it

Yeah all the people trying to make this about JRPG vs WRPG are as usual shitposting tards. JRPGs are fun in their own way and always have been and I'd say they're generally stronger story wise but for full freedom WRPG cannot be beat. Dunno why people have such a problem with other styles of RPG existing.
Here's a pretty funny watch featuring similar complaints.
The comments are also a good read, with the most liked ones calling the reviewer a casual baby duck
If this is the guy's first cRPG i'd give him a break. I started back in the day with Wizardry 8 and Baldur's Gate 2 and was mostly strategy/tactics/quest/fps/sidecroller player before that. Playing the games initially was a sturggle for me too, well mabe not as much as i see here but i already had a background in strategy and tactical games with Warlords 3, Heroes of Might and Magic III, C&C:Red Alert and also having played first person games made me not get confused in Wizardry 8(also having played old quest games where you type your choices made it easier for my to work out the dialogue in the game).
Laughed hard when he started looting absolutely everything in the crypt and complained there were too many items in the game, and it was hard to understand what was useless and what was not. I guess Nips aren't used to having to contend with their hoarding urges. Is the highlight items button not in an intuitive spot for controllers or something? I never played with a controller.
It also really puts into perspective how alien the game is to them when the closest analogues he could think of were Fire Emblem and Tactics Ogre.
I’d argue the closest thing would be the dungeon crawlers like SMT. Those are obviously Wizardry inspired and most modern CRPGs still have some of that DNA.
I’ve always found the relationship between CRPGs and JRPGs fascinating. I think a lot of Japs would be interested in the more complex mechanisms they provide but some that have been raised on a diet of Dragon Quest their entire life will balk at it.
>raised on a diet of Dragon Quest their entire life
Yeah, you can see this with CoD drones and other similar groups where they know only one thing and have been consuming it their whole lives so they like it, it doesn't matter if it's bad or mediocre. This is all they know. Once you show them something different they hate it. Not because it is bad but because it is different and foreign.
I think it’s just part of the human condition for many people to assume the first thing they play/watch/read/etc… is the greatest thing ever. The first hit is always the strongest after all, and your first foray into a specific medium or genre will color your perception of what it’s supposed to be.
It’s why those “modern gaming SUCKS now” videos are hilarious when they only talk about CoD, Battlefield, Halo, Madden, etc… Modern gaming does suck but not because those franchises have become the low quality fast food of the industry
I'm more surprised at the morons in this board that give a shit about the VGA's when they gave Dragon Age Inquisition the GOTY award a few years ago. Those awards are nothing more than a popularity contest.
I legitimately think Japan not liking BG3 is a result of DnD not being a big thing over there and the entire concept of a game emulating DnD where all of the possibilities come from your mind just does not compute with them. Japanese players in all games think in such strict and structured ways that I legitimately think they do not understand a game like this, just like they didnt understand attacking America in the 1940s would result in them getting btfo and creating anime.

you can see that there are FAR MORE positive JP reviews than negative ones
>The translation is B-tier, wouldn't call it a proper localization, but in this case I think he's likely complaining about in-game lore.
FFXVI's real time lore thing really ought to be a new standard. Little codex accessible at all times that keeps track of terms is not a bad thing to have.
i mean that’s a fair complaint. japan has barely any exposure to dnd, they wouldn’t know who the frick elminster is, what’s the deal with gith and mindflayers and dragons, what’s up with the gnomes and who the frick is sarevok? why are there refugees of hellspawn, what exactly happened? even if you are later explained to, it is surely not very entertaining storytelling and it can be hard to swallow having to amble along the narrative cluelessly juggle all these completely contextless ??? in your head until you read a note or someone tells you what it is later
>japan has barely any exposure to dnd, they wouldn’t know who the frick elminster is, what’s the deal with gith and mindflayers and dragons, what’s up with the gnomes and who the frick is sarevok? why are there refugees of hellspawn, what exactly happened?
To be fair neither would most modern RPG fans.
I think figuring out the lore by yourself is fun. I recently read Book of the New Sun, it also throws around made-up words without any explanation as to what the frick they mean, and it was a very good read.
A lot of the lore is actually in game(fiddle with the menu and you should be able to pen it up) and can even be seen if you inspect the enemy/objects. >a ton of books spread around the world on different subjects from vampires to cambions to gods etc. >you can also open your journal and there is a whole tutorial section that explains all the game mechanics you need >there is the quests section where you get your ''objectives'' >enemies have red outlines just in case you're blind
Yeah but i've watched some streams where people don't use any of that at all, or even try it. Not even the ability to scout the enemy before they try to attack them and that should be blatantly obvious to the player. Still skip over it and just let the dice fly, then restart after dying.
The lore books in BG3 don't really give a proper grand view of the setting and are more like anecdotes and opinion pieces which make more sense in-game but probably make it harder for a newcomer to get their bearings. BG1 and BG2 had entire book series about each topic and country though kind of cheats since they're basically Wikipedia-tier entries. Plus, most players don't read lore anyway.
It's more or less accurate besides the first sentence and the first few sentences of the third paragraph. >This game isn't for everyone, I think. >Why is this guy so tough? This is only my first encounter with him! And it's because of his race? Seriously?
Think he's referring to Commander Zhaik.
If he's specifying a race and only has 4 hours in the game, then I assume so. There's no way he could have trouble with the goblins or the intellect devourers and the gnolls are bit further into Act 1 unless he wandered up there without doing anything in the grove or Jergal's crypt.
Japan uses review stars way differently than the west. 3 Stars is that thing is good 4 is it went insanely far beyond what they expected and 5 is impossible to improve its perfect also came with a handjob when they purchased it.
Japanese people don't even know how to make a good JRPG much less know what makes a good WRPG. They do not get to have an opinion worth caring about and you don't either.
Sadly the Japanese mind is too underdeveloped to handle CRPG gameplay. Their addiction to "4 homies in a line moving one at a time" gameplay makes a lot of sense.
>before japanese release >"goy BG3 is highly anticipated in japan" >after japanese release >"these stupid asiatics don't know anything about good games"
absolute state of balding gay 3 shills
Japs getting filtered by this game is not a surprise to me. The CRPG genre is a mostly western dominated genre and japs have almost ZERO idea on how you're typically supposed to play these type of games
theres also the ecosystem of wikis and many quests in bg3 require looking at a guide or they make no sense
if jap players cant read english wikis its bound to alienate them
I didn't need a wiki to get through the game.
there is however a ton of missable content in the game if you don't use your brain to experiment and search every nook and cranny.

Did you know you can pass a Perception Check and enter the Murder Tribunal without even starting this quest?

I got to murder tribunal just fine, I dont remember what the solution was tho
I remember exploring parts about the quest and then having to retread those places after I did some specific quest phase and it was awkward and annoying.
Also after a while you're obviously pushed towards googling where the body parts are because you likely had some missing.
The game doesn't need a guide unless you're trying to do very inconsequential side stuff like saving Ethel's masked victims or retrieving the Noblestalk and figuring out to do with it. It's a very completionist friendly game where you just need to fill out the map to see all of the content.
>japan doesn't get bg3
does this really shock anyone? while they have a tabletop roleplaying scene it's not at the core of their vidya rpg scene like it is in the west.
japs could eat up actual dog feces if they had even the most run of the mill anime characters to be honest, and they even have that unusual syndrome of wanting as many cliches as possible in their media because theyre afraid of what they dont know, its rare to see a jap mature enough to enjoy something outside their usual boundaries. their breed of NEETs and outcasts is honestly more pathetic than americans.
that being said I also did not pick up the game until I learned you could make pretty characters in it. my two cents is just that giving their opinion much value is a meme because they would get filtered by fricking Kirby if they got the americanized angry covers over there.
>japs could eat up actual dog feces if they had even the most run of the mill anime characters to be honest, and they even have that unusual syndrome of wanting as many cliches as possible in their media because theyre afraid of what they dont know, its rare to see a jap mature enough to enjoy something outside their usual boundaries. their breed of NEETs and outcasts is honestly more pathetic than americans.
Your complaint here is moronic because it implies that american games and media in general aren't absolutely chock full of every single cliche. Stories are made of cliches and always have been. Trying to claim some sort of maturity over other people only shows how truly pathetic and worthless you are in general doesn't it?
>Japs would proclaim Dragon Quest 4362947 as the best RPG. If you asked an american they would say Planetscape Torment or some shit
And your point? They have different tastes than you due to what format they enjoy does not mean either is automatically better, nuance exists. If you read the reviews for BG3 from much of it trends towards having a single idea of what an RPG is supposed to be quite a lot like people who believe every rpg should be Betheslop.
>they are harsh on games and critique everything but then why do they eat up all that terrible anime and gacha slop?
Same reason millions of moronic losers keep buying fifa and CoD, it appeals to them even if it's fricking garbage.
You know what? Japs aren’t completely moronic, some of them understand many Westoids have been using BS3 as a tool to bash Japan.
If it wasn’t like this, it would have been considered a very good game in Japan as well.
>sure it can, if it’s based off faulty assumptions
Well they have faulty assumptions thinking TotK is good. Next Aonuma should make a whole game instead of a DLC.
I hope not. That would be a literal waste. All that freedom of expression trough interaction. Wasted on people that did not bother to learn the game's mechanics. Grim. Truly grim. I wonder how many people in this thread played BG3. Give me a (you) if any of you played the game and i'll ask you all a question.
I need you to give me the quick survival guide on cRPGs for someone who only has experience with games where the most interactive thing the player can do, is put a bucket on someone's head and pickpocket them.

Nips are physically incapable of lateral thinking and creative problem solving. It’s why all their rpgs require nothing but spamming the a button. The fact that they’re getting filtered by one of the easiest crpgs that was made intentionally easy to appeal to a wider audience isn’t a surprise.
It’s funny how people love using CRPG to shit on JRPGs, but in reality, when asking normal gays about their favorite WRPGs, the answers are probably Witcher 3 or Skyrim
besides it skipping scrolling through several multi-page attack option menus and having these encounters randomly flash into your screen every 5 steps you take
ok but the problems in Jrpg is that you do things like this webm a billion time in the game.
After 80h in bg3 i was less bored about the combat than after 80h in your typical Jrpg.
>notice how this doesn't take 30 minutes like it would in bg3
This would take less than 30 seconds in BG3 with the right build/spells/class. >see that enemy >see that chasm >push them into the pit with your Barbarian/Fighter/Gust of Wind/explosive barrel
Fight over. >inb4 but what about without ''cheeze''
Poison blades, two handed barbarian/thief+hold on boss and the small mobs? Pulverise them in a single turn with a nuke spell/runepowder bomb etc.
westshit gaming is in dire straits if BG3 is the game they decided to champion
I don't find Japanese reaction at all surprising - it's just not very good as far as RPGs go
Probably? Bear with me as I directly link something and start a reply chain.
It's a lot nicer than have 3/4ths of the thread filtered because I have troony and any mutation of the word filtered. It really refreshed my perspective on why I occasionally see antagonistic Yotsuba-jaks from Sharty posters.
>Well for starters at least in Japanese, which is a phonetic language, one can pronounce Cthulhu. “Katulf’ is how they say it. > it was the popularity of Sandy Peterson’s Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game that truly brought Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos into Japanese mainstream otaku or geek culture. > Hobby Japan [...] began commissioning original Lovecraft inspired manga and short stories to be printed in their various sister publications[.]

> two in particular rise above the rest: Chiaki J. Konaka (b. 1961) and Ken Asamatsu (b. 1956).
Those two might actually be dead, this article is 10 years old and I'm not really up to speed with my not-dead-Nip authors outside of Miura.
>Konaka, as life-long fan of Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos, has admitted to frequently borrowing “elements of H.P.L. and other authors of the Cthulhu Saga for my scenarios.” >Konaka has said that as a writer for TV, where deadlines are often very short, one of the major benefits of borrowing from Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos universe is that it saves time in fleshing out a story. > “I don’t have the desire to create an original world for each new production”, notes Konaka, “So when it’s effective, I use [Lovecraft’s] elements.” >When it comes to original Mythos fiction, very little of Konaka’s output is currently available for an English audience. To my knowledge his short stories “Those Who Walk in the Abyss” (1994), “Dagon, Uchusen 88” (1999) and “Shiny [A Little Help from the Gods]” (1999) have never been translated into English.
>Junji Ito

>The reason why non-Japanese audiences now have stories like Konaka’s “Terror Rate” available in English is in part thanks to one man; Ken Asamatsu who could probably be called Lovecraft’s Official Japanese Ambassador. I say this with little to no hyperbole involved since any attempt to list Asamatsu’s lengthy Mythos related bibliography would undoubtedly end up occupying the rest of this article.
>In 1998, Asamatsu set out to publish an anthology of Mythos fiction by Japanese authors. The stories were to all be set in the fictional town of Yotoura; Asamatsu’s idea for a Japanese equivalent of Lovecraft’s own Arkham. > The anthology, titled Hishin (trans. “The Hidden Gods”), was published in 1999 and, unfortunately, was a bomb. Asamatsu blames the anthology’s failure on the publisher and also the cultural climate in Japan at the time. > In March of 1995, a Japanese based doomsday cult called Aum Shinrikyo had attacked the Tokyo Metro subway line, releasing sarin gas into the air.

>Asamatsu continued writing and eventually decided to put together a second Cthulhu Mythos anthology. >This became the two-volume Lairs of the Hidden Gods which collected short Mythos fiction from many of Japan’s top horror writers as well as several essays on Mythos by Japanese writers. >The stories collected in Lairs of the Hidden Gods span a wide variety from straight Lovecraftian horror to unique fusions of genres including noir, historical fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, romance, and eroticism.
>A personal favorite of mine is Tanaka Hirofumi’s “The Secret Memoir of the Missionary (Prologue)” translated by Daniel K. Day. >Set in the 17th-Century and based around the very real tension that arose in Japan at that time in reaction to Christian missionaries coming to the country to try and convert the populace. >Here Hirofumi reimagines the historical figure of St. Francisco Xavier, the “Apostle to the Far East”, as a covert Cthulhu cultist bringing his poisonous new faith to Japan. >Fortunately a samurai named Yoshitaka recognizes Xavier’s religion for what it is and steps forth to oppose him. So yes, you eventually get samurai verses Cthulhu spawn. >Awesome!
>[...] Lovecraft’s eldritch influence quickly spread in Japan beyond the world of horror literature and tabletop gaming infecting the medium of anime, tokustasu and film. >As we continue with this series of articles throughout the rest of December and into January we will look at some of those other mediums and how the Mythos have affected them as well.
And that ends my dump for now. I hope everyone's found this elucidating.
I love when japs get filtered by Western games. Any other good examples where japs basically just don't get it. I wonder how'd they fair with S.T.A.L.K.E.R
Have to be honest, the mainstory in BG3 is kinda shit. Ketheric's the only one I find interesting. Of all the party members, only Astarion and Lae'zel I'd consider good, story-wise. The rest is pretty forgettable. Still, a fun game.
The writing in general, from the story to the companions is awful. But that's what to be expected from Larian who have never written a good piece of dialogue in 20 years.
Would only work if they were full-on westaboo and weeaboos that really play and understand everything from the other country and aren't filthy casuals like Kojima or weeb indie devs that think slapping anime aesthetics on their game makes it good.
>he said, as his country’s government did literally nothing as the US blew up Nord Stream 2 to get them back in line in supporting their proxy war with Russia >he said, as his country’s government followed the US like good little dogs in loudly supporting Israel as they bomb Gaza >he said, as the US drags your country’s government back in line because they realized they really couldn’t do anything about the Houthi’s without US support and they aren’t interested in fighting in Yemen right now

Anime? Solo leveling is AOTS next year and Korea dominates Japanenes anime market; which Chinese donghua couldn't.
Comics? Korea makes them better,Webtoon. Solo leveling is more popular than Demon slayer,JJK, Oshi no Ko, Freiren, SxF and Attack on Titan in Japan,
Game? Mihoyo,Neowiz,BG3,black myth wukong mogs any Japanese game in ease. Even Elden ring,Sekiro,MHW,DMC5,RE4,ToTK.
Electricity? Korea makes them better.
Car? Hyundai makes it better.
Weebstuff? Blue archive dominates Comicket by booth number of 1600!
Porn? Banned from Japan by new law on AV.

some of the reviews about the tempo being bad seem reasonable. battle royal games are really bad for me because of the downtime and large maps having an extreme pacing difference. i wanted to get into tarkov because of the aesthetics and combat being really fun, but the tempo of when youd run into people and the wait between fights is so bad.
it seems no different in this case, just the pacing of action, tense moments, and the downtime are not enjoyable.

It's literally the best and most innovative RPG ever made. Why wouldnt it be a good standard?

I would never ever expect same level of character depth, technical and presentation competence from any jap rpg
i guess its a cultural thing, mother 3 (i dont know if you ever played it or earthbound) wasn't received quite as well since itoi aped most of the game from a series of french novels, so it was really a story more geared towards western thought and taste
i thought asians were supposed to be good at math? d&d is luck based sure but if you know how the math works you can build to consistently get desireable outcomes
>he didnt play with his d&d bros and treat it as like a 4p interactive 5e module

>larian has done nothing but CRPGs and playtest their adaptation of DND 5E (except maybe dragon commander)
>far as I know, they don't suffer frequent losses in manpower and experience
>publicly traded
>studios constantly having attrition because of upper level management and frustrations of working with new hires that eventually pack their bags and frick off to do something better with their skills

It's always funny when people think Japanese as the ultimate gamers when they're actually moronic and only game during the 1 hour they have off work.
There's a reason why the most popular games in Japan are mobile gachas
There are a few Japanese fighting games pros and i think that is where this comes from.
The Japanese version of Deus Ex gives the player 4x more health iirc
Worse than I thought
lmao holy shit
The nipponji text looks pretty sweet though
How the frick is that necessary, Deus Ex isn't hard.
>Deus Ex isn't hard.
So BG1/2/3.
Baldurs Gate probably isnt fun enougj to the average Jap.
>my source is that I made it the frick up
Japs love to brag, they just favor humblebragging.
>Door immunity removed
>4x damage modifier in easy
>Weapon damage increased 2.5x
>Passive 40% DR always
>Energy drain rare halved
Theyre just oneshotting shit with their brains turned off and by passing door puzzles by making doors always take damage
No wonder the poor fricks are bored
Seeing someone with a moonrune name join in monster hunter has to be one of the most frustrating experiences
>It's always funny when people think Japanese as the ultimate gamers when they're actually moronic and only game during the 1 hour they have off work.
I thought it was koreans who had that stereotype.
They both do japs just aren't playing lol/csgo so it's not as apparent
It's one of those "you meet one, you think you've met them all" situations.
Most people are only exposed to the handful of autismo pro players from Japan and assume the rest of them must be inherently just as good.
Most of the negative reviews are about people getting filtered.
they should add the zelda jingle to help them out
link
That's honestly how most people play
I hope not. That would be a literal waste. All that freedom of expression trough interaction. Wasted on people that did not bother to learn the game's mechanics. Grim. Truly grim. I wonder how many people in this thread played BG3. Give me a (you) if any of you played the game and i'll ask you all a question.
First explain to me how BG3 can be defined as a game and not a porn vn
Too many dialogues and gameplay for a porn vn.
There is a total of like 4 minutes of sex scenes in a 100+ hour game
and 20 hrs of inventory management in that 100+ hour game
>inventory management
Mass selection -> 'Send to Camp'
You can shift+select if i remember corectly so just shift select everything that is not a scroll/potion and ship it to camp.
>inb4 what about on console
No idea, i play on PC.
it's not even porn ,you can't see any penetration so the game should be classified as erotic and not porn. and even then, that like 0.1 % of the game.
5e is specially made easy to understand just by playing. Old editions of D&D rules used to be way more complex.
>5e is specially made easy to understand just by playing. Old editions of D&D rules used to be way more complex.
Mmm THAC0.
THAC0 was one of those things that sounded weird, but made perfect sense once you understood and used the formula itself.
>your thaco minus target ac
i still don't get why this was so complicated
>play JRPG
>grind monsters to get higher level
>higher level means better stats and damage
>play CRPG
>you don't grind since enemies don't respawn
>level up barely changes anything
>there's only 12 levels
>can't brute force your way through
>have multiple options to do missions instead of collect 20/20 items
no wonder that have trouble
>like he's never played a cRPG before
Most people haven't played cRPG. It's not a Japanese thing
Bugbros, our hive's respond?
Until recently, western games never had a large presence in Japan. Until recently, PC gaming never had a large presence in Japan. Until recently, CRPGs were largely a PC only genre and are still primarily PC centric.
So in Japan you’re dealing with a niche of a niche of a niche.
The Japanese and East Asians in general consistently dominate in every single gaming genre from RTS games to Fighter games, what kind of fricking moron would claim they dislike a game because it's too complex?
Status of Dota 2 and CSGO?
Status in Rainbow 6 Siege?
Status in AoE2?
The first big jrpg you play will always be your favorite one because they all have the exact same plot (be simple know-nothing boy, gather a bunch of misfits then kill god)
Baldurs gate 3 actually gives you options so of course they're afraid of it
Yeah i saw the meme with the sould out guides for the game.
>The nips know
>ps5
nobody interested in BG3 is playing it on console.
Is there a way to see Steam scores by language? They need to add that if not.
If you arent here on Ganker to shit on video games then why are you here? They havent made a good game worth playing in over a decade now.
I like pepe/wojak wastes, twitter, sale numbers
>country where girl games like Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon sell bazillions
>doesn't like a game made for men like BG3
not surprising
>me in the corner waiting for Japanese people to pull their collective heads out of their ass to make a truly interactive RPG game
Hurry up
Japan doesn't want gay bear sex.
But they made the bara genre
Japan is absolutely degenerate enough to want gay bear sex
They want gay bear sex but they want the bear to be a buff kemono that blushes when you notice his bulge.
This, but they also want him to have sex with another big gay buff kemono.
Starfield and trannies lost
>they now suspect the legitimacy of GOTY awards
what fricking legitimacy?
It's an advertising show that uses awards to pretend it's not just Geoff doing e3
japanese people like super fricking simple action and beat em up games
they never program complex rpg systems
>they never program complex rpg systems
This goes for most developers. Not just the Japanse ones. There is a reason why BG3 and the Divinity:Original Sin 1&2 stand out so much. Nobody else is emulating this level of environment and choice interaction in and out of combat.

Link so people can read look at the reviews for themselves.
Ken is my homie. He knows what’s up.
Skipped one review because it provided a 5000+ word guide on the game.
I mean the only legit complaints i can see there is that it sucks with a controller and the translation is bad.
but they don't seem to have a fundamental problem with the game itself, more a problem with their playstations lol.
ahh read the rest, turns out they're shitters.
The guy complaining about the gondola or the ladder is one complaint I used to have about the game but forgot about later on. It's really annoying how cumbersome grouping characters is in BG3. It should just be a click-and-drag selection box like every other RPG.
>japs complaining about not having a dub
HAH!
So either they get mogged by CRPG gameplay or not. Japanese twitter seems to like the character creator.
Everyone likes the character creator. Not just Japan. People meme spending up to two hours making their Tav.
It is actually incredibly highly rated in Japanese, the highest rate rpg of the year.
Forgot to mention for context that the game doesn't have a Japanese dub (nor any other dub other than English for that matter). It's only a text translation.
>japanese can't deal with the roll of the dice and living with the outcome
that's an interesting cultural detail, i thought they were all "fate this" and "destiny that"
そもそもガイドや目的進行指示がないとゲームできないって人が昔より増えた気もするから、自由度が高ければ高いゲームほど日本人受けが悪そうな気はする。
bg3 is extremely new player friendly game, it has all the gamer science baked in to make sure you get through just fine, cant block your own progression and so on
if you miss out the companions they just find you later, if you kill someone important the game has a backup npc
its not fromsoft game with 1 difficulty option either
>bg3 is extremely new player friendly game
>you can lose the game for not making the right choice 20 minutes into the game
>you can lose the game for having one of your companions die
>you can lose the game for mouthing off in dialogue 40 hours into the game
>you can get filtered by the tutorial combat area cambion&ghaik if you try fighting them unprepared(not sure if this is true on lower difficulties i only play on the highest difficulty)
>you can get wiped by standing near firewine/gunpowder barrels if you're not familiar with the secrets of barrelmancy
>petrification is fun and so is falling into the void(welcome to the Underdark)
>traps are fun
stuff that is fixed by reloading a save & the choice is unlikely anyway isnt hostile to newbies
only actual difficult part is the freedom to go anywhere while being underleveled and you can find couple fights in the first chapter impossible
>Difficulty? In my rpg? oh nooo! Save me, Nip-Man!!!
You can overlevel in From's games.
That's all.
yeah so they are all time sensitive gamers who want short battles that pose no challenge?
>"The characters are unattractive"
Translation: "Why are there no big tit anime waifus!!?!!!"
They'll learn to love Karlach
Why aren't there? The guys look fine
That is actually one of the biggest problems that the game has.
Japs unironically Filtered.
>japs filtered by the most babby-tier incarnation of d&d
lol
What? You can't even gather your party to venturing forth?
Pfffffffffffffffff hahahahahah Baldurs Gate b***hes blown the frick out
>S-STOOOOOOOOOOOOOP THE GAMEPLAY ISNT MEANT TO LOOK FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jap players hates complexity in gameplay above all else. All their games requires everything to be as oversimplified as humanly possible.
Is that why westerners complain that their action games are too hard
That's an entirely different skillset, BG3 demands nothing of player reflexes/timing/combos
makes sense considering they have 10 minutes of playtime a day
if i wanted to play a tabletop game, i would just play an actual tabletop game and not a simulation of one
Shut the frick up.
The majority of content can be cleared with enough brute force so the gigantic sheets of character choices mattered less to me.
only one guy in our group was interested in the game. everyone else hated the romance shit.
i can't lift a metal gear and throw it into the air IRL nor is there an appropriate system to do so with the same level of satisfaction IRL. BG3 is a simulation of a garbage rulebook with decent visuals but nothing truly breaks out of the confines of the rules as far as I can tell.
isn't there already a decently popular custom module game where the entire selling point was the custom modules
well nobody's forcing you to go to pound town on your party, im pretty sure you can have platonic relationships with everybody (if you choose)
>if i wanted to <anything>, i would just <anything> and not a simulation of one
it's like you're unable to grasp the purpose of video games, or creative media in general.
Based, just make friends and see what neat shit you can see in hobby shops.
>t. eavesdropped on a batshit homebrew system of adapting whatever comic book or media you see into a session
Also BG3 is an automatic 0/10 for not having a module creator toolset.
>module creator toolset
They made a pretty extensive one for DOS2 and nobody fricking used it. I say it's a good thing they decided to forego it this time and not waste time and resources on something that only 2 people on Earth care about.
I imagine Wizards doesn't want them to make one because it'd take interest away from the virtual tabletop they themselves are developing.
ITT: weebs prefer baby games

>ITT: people whose first and only CRPG was BG3 try and fail to meaningfully participate in a debate that started before they were born
Your "insights" on the subject of JRPGs/CRPGs are literally worthless.
Shut the frick up and please stop wasting precious digital oxygen.
Just read the negative japanese reviews on Steam, some of those are hilarious
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1086940/negativereviews/?browsefilter=toprated&snr=1_5_100010_&filterLanguage=japanese
"Simply being a trending topic was not enough to persuade me to buy it. I didn't find it appealing because:
1. The battles are not in real-time.
2. There are multiple characters that need to be controlled.
3. You have to memorize all the skills and classes of the characters you control and consider their builds and equipment.
4. You must not only engage in direct battles, but also demonstrate adaptability by using miscellaneous items in the vicinity.
5. Without skipping any of the occurring conversations, you have to decide how to respond after reading all of them.
6. It takes more time to watch the movies.
7. The number of actions you can take during battles is limited, and you can only take the same action a few times, no matter how many you have available.
8. The distance you can move during battles is limited, and you cannot move at all beyond that limit.
9. When forming a team, it happens abruptly every time, and you cannot grasp what job and skills each person will learn at first sight.
10. You have to instantly accept distracting thoughts (so-called companions, without any attachment, basically your second, third, or fourth sub-character) as objects you control, making it difficult to empathize with the story."
>Without skipping any of the occurring conversations, you have to decide how to respond after reading all of them.
Audibly laughed.
They just described your average, run of the mill jrpg slop
Why are japs unable into self awareness?
Yeah but even the most run of the mill JRPG has attractive character designs to look at while playing
Slop jrpgs are actually way simpler and hinge on established tropes. Im jot talking Nier or Final Fantasy Im talking thr forgettable psp era shit where youre just some knight and your childhood friend and love interest is your healer and you go fight the demon lord who destroyed your village.
You gotta understand stuff like Star Ocean is actually interesting swimming among the rest of that slop.
they truly are souless drones holy shit
>3. You have to memorize all the skills and classes of the characters you control and consider their builds and equipment.
>5. Without skipping any of the occurring conversations, you have to decide how to respond after reading all of them.
This has to be someone memeing.
> You have to instantly accept distracting thoughts (so-called companions, without any attachment, basically your second, third, or fourth sub-character) as objects you control, making it difficult to empathize with the story
This is funny right?
>10. You have to instantly accept distracting thoughts (so-called companions, without any attachment, basically your second, third, or fourth sub-character) as objects you control, making it difficult to empathize with the story."
JRPGbros... not like this...
by the way, you can set it to positive reviews and a lot of them are glowing. it's just a matter of japs wanting to get into something popular and finally getting it, but most of these types of people are the same who hate BG3 in the west who are playing fifa and cowadoody instead. TTRPG isn't as popular over there because most of them have no time for it but naturally all the ones who do play some are enjoying it
That's why i mentioned above that BG3 will not appeal to jRPG/zelda players but will be more popular with tactics players in Japan.
>by the way, you can set it to positive reviews and a lot of them are glowing. it's just a matter of japs wanting to get into something popular and finally getting it, but most of these types of people are the same who hate BG3 in the west who are playing fifa and cowadoody instead.

Too boring, not enough bing bing wahoo.
It’s why those “modern gaming SUCKS now” videos are hilarious when they only talk about CoD, Battlefield, Halo, Madden, etc…
Modern gaming does suck but not because those franchises have become the low quality fast food of the industry
Most of these apply perfectly to your average jrpg.
The average Jap gamer doesn't play jrpgs they play shit like apex or fighting games
So he complained that it's not a boring dragon quest where you spam attack to overlevel and win
HAHAHAHAHAGAHGA NIPCELS FRICKED UP
>all these are considered bad
i bet they missed good mechanics such as keeping the button pressed to make flashy stuff
I'm more surprised at the morons in this board that give a shit about the VGA's when they gave Dragon Age Inquisition the GOTY award a few years ago. Those awards are nothing more than a popularity contest.
the year DA won was weak and witcher 3 wasnt out yet to set a new standard
japanese are like the most casual country ever
outside of fighting games
>Shit ass opinion
>Shit ass opinion, japan
ITT: JAPAN IS SO GOOD! I LOVE JAPAN THEY'RE SO BASED!
This thread has been basically nothing but the opposite you fricking sperg
I legitimately think Japan not liking BG3 is a result of DnD not being a big thing over there and the entire concept of a game emulating DnD where all of the possibilities come from your mind just does not compute with them. Japanese players in all games think in such strict and structured ways that I legitimately think they do not understand a game like this, just like they didnt understand attacking America in the 1940s would result in them getting btfo and creating anime.
Eh to be fair if you go to
you can see that there are FAR MORE positive JP reviews than negative ones
i wonder how much of it is just the translation being shit
Based Mongoloid recognizing the White Man as the most educated being
Use ChatGPT for translation, Gtranslate is garbage
its DeepL
Who is translating the game for Japan?
Spike ChinkSoft
The translation is B-tier, wouldn't call it a proper localization, but in this case I think he's likely complaining about in-game lore.
A lot of the lore is actually in game(fiddle with the menu and you should be able to pen it up) and can even be seen if you inspect the enemy/objects.
>a ton of books spread around the world on different subjects from vampires to cambions to gods etc.
>you can also open your journal and there is a whole tutorial section that explains all the game mechanics you need
>there is the quests section where you get your ''objectives''
>enemies have red outlines just in case you're blind
>Think he's referring to Commander Zhalk.
Wait? What? You mean the cambion fighting the ghaik in the tutorial?
If he's specifying a race and only has 4 hours in the game, then I assume so. There's no way he could have trouble with the goblins or the intellect devourers and the gnolls are bit further into Act 1 unless he wandered up there without doing anything in the grove or Jergal's crypt.
Japan uses review stars way differently than the west. 3 Stars is that thing is good 4 is it went insanely far beyond what they expected and 5 is impossible to improve its perfect also came with a handjob when they purchased it.
Based Japanese actually using the star system properly, mediocrity should be recognized than seen as an exception due to score inflation.
>Japanese people butthurt that they got sweeped.
Kek. West wins again
Japanese people don't even know how to make a good JRPG much less know what makes a good WRPG. They do not get to have an opinion worth caring about and you don't either.
Why do you keep making this thread? Japs gott filtered cause baby shit zelda didnt win
Sadly the Japanese mind is too underdeveloped to handle CRPG gameplay. Their addiction to "4 homies in a line moving one at a time" gameplay makes a lot of sense.
4 homies in a line one at a time is peak
That reminds me, Switch 2 is coming out next year. I can see them showing BG3 running on it
>before japanese release
>"goy BG3 is highly anticipated in japan"
>after japanese release
>"these stupid asiatics don't know anything about good games"
absolute state of balding gay 3 shills
If you look on twitter, youtube and 5ch you'll see that the reception is mostly positive, though.
The obsession with degeneracy must be so exhausting. Just Sven living rent free.
Japs getting filtered by this game is not a surprise to me. The CRPG genre is a mostly western dominated genre and japs have almost ZERO idea on how you're typically supposed to play these type of games
theres also the ecosystem of wikis and many quests in bg3 require looking at a guide or they make no sense
if jap players cant read english wikis its bound to alienate them
I didn't need a wiki to get through the game.
there is however a ton of missable content in the game if you don't use your brain to experiment and search every nook and cranny.
see
act 3 has some horribly desigend/unfinished quests that only serve to make you mad if you dont google it
name 2
the quest about bomb teddybears
the fireworks quest that requires you to just kill everyone, the end
the newspaper timed quest
the quest about the killer that has extremely linear design that you easily frick up by exploring at all
the circus wheel roll q
The frick are you talking about? Did you even play the game?
just you being a moron.
>wtf I couldn't talk my way out when showed up in the secret narcos/terrorist base
>wtf the killer killed the investigator because I dicked around too long (in truth I am too shitty to neutralize him before he succeeds)
>the quest about the killer that has extremely linear design
Why do you lie?
Do you know you can use the Clown hand to access the Murder Tribunal?
Did you know you can kill one of the targets yourself and a member of the Murder Tribunal will reward you with the admission?
Surprisingly, there are only 257 reviews on Steam in Japanese.
221 positive, 36 negative.
Anyway, BG3 is not a console game, so OP is moronic.
japs could eat up actual dog feces if they had even the most run of the mill anime characters to be honest, and they even have that unusual syndrome of wanting as many cliches as possible in their media because theyre afraid of what they dont know, its rare to see a jap mature enough to enjoy something outside their usual boundaries. their breed of NEETs and outcasts is honestly more pathetic than americans.
that being said I also did not pick up the game until I learned you could make pretty characters in it. my two cents is just that giving their opinion much value is a meme because they would get filtered by fricking Kirby if they got the americanized angry covers over there.
Japan needs more westaboos.
if Japan had as many westaboos as there are weebs in the west, the world would definitely be a different place
>japs could eat up actual dog feces if they had even the most run of the mill anime characters to be honest, and they even have that unusual syndrome of wanting as many cliches as possible in their media because theyre afraid of what they dont know, its rare to see a jap mature enough to enjoy something outside their usual boundaries. their breed of NEETs and outcasts is honestly more pathetic than americans.
>If you asked an american they would say Planetscape Torment or some shit
lets be real. they would say skyrim.
My bad, I meant to type Eurochad.
lets be real. they would say starfield.
>lets be real. they would say starfield.
300 rupees have been deposited in your account.
in the current age it would probably be witcher 3
They'd say fricking skyrim cmon now
new vegas
>rare to see a jap mature enough to enjoy something outside their usual boundaries
why do you think shitty isekais are plaguing anime and LNs?
Man how many fricking people buy a full priced game without doing any research?
a depressing amount
literally millions dude
why do you think marketing works
90% of the market. Can you also believe that 90% of those people don't finish those games either?
Anon how do you think Sony gets away with selling the same formulaic bullshit every two years
>crpg on console
they are harsh on games and critique everything but then why do they eat up all that terrible anime and gacha slop?
it's the only thing they have time for
>they are harsh on games and critique everything but then why do they eat up all that terrible anime and gacha slop?
Same reason millions of moronic losers keep buying fifa and CoD, it appeals to them even if it's fricking garbage.
Anon, Nips celebrate Christmas by buying KFC. I'm not fricking kidding. They're extremely rabid consumers.
Xenophobia of things made by people with souls
Because just like in the west the people there who actually analyze and criticize what they consume are a tiny minority
conditioning
but it goes both ways
here in the west we make excuses for reddit writing, groids in middle ages setting and trannies
they are better off than we are
>reddit writing
>thinking that they have better writing in their anime or games in any way
You motherfrickers are illiterate
He literally said its conditioning, maybe you're the illiterate one
you post implied that the bad writing is a thing here but is not excused in japan
they have clishee packed side grades that are better by simply not being worse in a specific direction
what do you think is more valuable, then? the ugly game that appeals to your brain or the dumb game only appealing to your sexual urges?
there is no ugly game that appeals to my brain
and sex appeal is appeal to my brain
what kind of golem dichotomy is that ? get your israeli dialectics back to the middle east
I’ll take the dumb game appealing to my sexual urges please
Don't they love porn VNs though?
The low iq moron who only reads Ganker hearsay and cant afford to play games himself decided to enrich the thread
BG3 isn't a game, it's a porno for women
Anon the amount of people who still play vns on PC in Japan is more comparable to the number of ips in this thread
You know what? Japs aren’t completely moronic, some of them understand many Westoids have been using BS3 as a tool to bash Japan.
If it wasn’t like this, it would have been considered a very good game in Japan as well.
why? westoid slop-eaters are equally enamored with aonuma’s take on ubislop as japan and nothing else was in the running for goty
tencent buys review bots
I feel bad about shitposting in this thread. There's some actual quality posting here.
>amazon reviews
this is a classic thread. also I don't give a shit about bg3.
>legitmacy
It's a fricking opinion. It can't be illegitimate
sure it can, if it’s based off faulty assumptions
>sure it can, if it’s based off faulty assumptions
Well they have faulty assumptions thinking TotK is good. Next Aonuma should make a whole game instead of a DLC.
Your average non-jap gamer thinks totk is a 10/10 just like the average jap gamer does bro, thats hardly exclusive to them.
Opinions can still be facetious and cynical
I need you to give me the quick survival guide on cRPGs for someone who only has experience with games where the most interactive thing the player can do, is put a bucket on someone's head and pickpocket them.
>I need you to give me the quick survival guide on cRPGs for someone who only has experience with games where the most interactive thing the player can do, is put a bucket on someone's head and pickpocket them.

Anon, if I were japanese I'd be losing my mind about the gith being ugly in some half dead 2chan thread instead of posting here.
Japan stopped being relevant the moment Final Fantasy became another generic action game with XV. XVI sealed the deal.
Persona 5 tried to save Japan, but it simply wasn't strong enough.
Nips are physically incapable of lateral thinking and creative problem solving. It’s why all their rpgs require nothing but spamming the a button. The fact that they’re getting filtered by one of the easiest crpgs that was made intentionally easy to appeal to a wider audience isn’t a surprise.
you say this but they used to make games like Final Fantasy Tactics
if FFT had more story options, it could officially be called a cRPG
>if FFT had more story options, it could officially be called a cRPG
FFT was specifically a narratively streamlined TO.
It’s funny how people love using CRPG to shit on JRPGs, but in reality, when asking normal gays about their favorite WRPGs, the answers are probably Witcher 3 or Skyrim
>the answers are probably Witcher 3 or Skyrim
Yes. So neither. Mainstream always prefers action hybrids.
its funny since the ones always insulting jrpgs are jarpigs themselves
Japan has never created a single roleplaying game.
>It's another BG3 defense force thread that doesn't address any game related content at all
Proof that shilling works.
i thought japan was losing its edge but they are as based as ever
fk trannies fk pacing slog fk reddit writing and fk larian
agreed i also love ubislop, but only if japan does it
you have no idea what ubislop is
i was recently playing Far Cry 6 just to check it out. the cutscenes and characters in that game literally made me physically sick
it was one of the most repulsive games i have ever play in my whole life. ofc i didnt finish that shit.
still not playing your plebbit beastiality game, Nips are better off not trying too hard to understand it
Enough of that, tell me what did Ryoko Kui think of the game.
>japs are getting filtered
yep , that what I expected
nowu thissu issu a reer gamu
dont worry, i understand the joke
notice how this doesn't take 30 minutes like it would in bg3
besides it skipping scrolling through several multi-page attack option menus and having these encounters randomly flash into your screen every 5 steps you take
ok but the problems in Jrpg is that you do things like this webm a billion time in the game.
After 80h in bg3 i was less bored about the combat than after 80h in your typical Jrpg.
In BG3 you have limited amount of battle encounters and most of them you can skip. Of course we don't count meme encounters like rats with fireballs.
>notice how this doesn't take 30 minutes like it would in bg3
This would take less than 30 seconds in BG3 with the right build/spells/class.
>see that enemy
>see that chasm
>push them into the pit with your Barbarian/Fighter/Gust of Wind/explosive barrel
Fight over.
>inb4 but what about without ''cheeze''
Poison blades, two handed barbarian/thief+hold on boss and the small mobs? Pulverise them in a single turn with a nuke spell/runepowder bomb etc.
Besides Kojima, what other Japanese devs have played or are playing Baldur's Gate?
I hope BG3 will teach Aonuma how to make dungeons at least.
BG3 can teach most developers on how to make a ''dungeon''.
Put a shitton of barells and elemental surfaces at random and call it a day?
westshit gaming is in dire straits if BG3 is the game they decided to champion
I don't find Japanese reaction at all surprising - it's just not very good as far as RPGs go
Is this Bowser?
No that's Yoshi.
That looks like a Costco. Was this filmed in Hawaii or California?
Wait, do the Japanese not get how CRPGs work? I'm pretty sure they have tabletop shit like everyone else.
Their most popular tabletop game setting is cthulu mythos and it's obscure as frick.
That's neat.
Is this why Japan fetishizes outer gods?
Probably? Bear with me as I directly link something and start a reply chain.
It's a lot nicer than have 3/4ths of the thread filtered because I have troony and any mutation of the word filtered. It really refreshed my perspective on why I occasionally see antagonistic Yotsuba-jaks from Sharty posters.
https://lovecraftzine.com/2013/01/09/the-cthulhu-mythos-in-japan/
>Well for starters at least in Japanese, which is a phonetic language, one can pronounce Cthulhu. “Katulf’ is how they say it.
> it was the popularity of Sandy Peterson’s Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game that truly brought Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos into Japanese mainstream otaku or geek culture.
> Hobby Japan [...] began commissioning original Lovecraft inspired manga and short stories to be printed in their various sister publications[.]
That's pretty neat. I wonder if they like Delta Green as well.
>prominent Japanese fantasy, sci-fi, and horror writers were soon dabbling in the world of the Cthulhu Mythos.
>Kaoru Kurimoto (creator of the Guin Saga novels)
> Jun Hazami (the Japanese translator of Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy books)
>Vampire Hunter D creator Hideyuki Kikuchi
>acclaimed horror manga writer and artist Junji Ito (Tomie, Uzumaki, Gyo)
>manga-ka Shigeru Mizuki; creator of the celebrated children’s horror manga GeGeGe no Kitaro
>In 1963 Mizuki penned a manga adaptation of Lovecraft’s “The Dunwich Horror” titled “Chitei no Ashioto” (“Footsteps of the Underworld”)
>Junji Ito
He's good at making slightly interesting short stories but I can't say I ever felt scared while reading his stuff
> two in particular rise above the rest: Chiaki J. Konaka (b. 1961) and Ken Asamatsu (b. 1956).
Those two might actually be dead, this article is 10 years old and I'm not really up to speed with my not-dead-Nip authors outside of Miura.
>Konaka, as life-long fan of Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos, has admitted to frequently borrowing “elements of H.P.L. and other authors of the Cthulhu Saga for my scenarios.”
>Konaka has said that as a writer for TV, where deadlines are often very short, one of the major benefits of borrowing from Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos universe is that it saves time in fleshing out a story.
> “I don’t have the desire to create an original world for each new production”, notes Konaka, “So when it’s effective, I use [Lovecraft’s] elements.”
>When it comes to original Mythos fiction, very little of Konaka’s output is currently available for an English audience. To my knowledge his short stories “Those Who Walk in the Abyss” (1994), “Dagon, Uchusen 88” (1999) and “Shiny [A Little Help from the Gods]” (1999) have never been translated into English.
Yeah, the most scared I felt was dreaming of the apocalypse in Hellstar Remina.
>dreaming of flying through the air pursued by unknown attackers
> In March of 1995, a Japanese based doomsday cult called Aum Shinrikyo had attacked the Tokyo Metro subway line, releasing sarin gas into the air.
>reached 500 and archive because spaghetti is spilling
I have israelite and israelite autofiltered btw, it's like a set of noise cancelling headphones for /misc/bait being bitten.
They do but they tend to dislike games with significant table presence. Most Japanese tabletop games can fit on very small tables.
>Japs hate BG3 but love Starfield
Based Toddkino appreciators
>Everyone saying it's too hard
Baldurs gate 3 confirmed as the dark souls of rpgs.
>the dark souls of rpgs
Swen... I... I kneel...
>western game designers should all be weaboos
>japanese game designers should all be westaboos
There, I saved video games
Would only work if they were full-on westaboo and weeaboos that really play and understand everything from the other country and aren't filthy casuals like Kojima or weeb indie devs that think slapping anime aesthetics on their game makes it good.
Western values are shit, capcom are ruining themselves by pandering to westoids.
You confuse ''western values'' with woke USA values.
Woke USA values are western values. Europe is an American fief
stfu Black person you are a laughing stock
>said the serf
okay golem
>he said, as his country’s government did literally nothing as the US blew up Nord Stream 2 to get them back in line in supporting their proxy war with Russia
>he said, as his country’s government followed the US like good little dogs in loudly supporting Israel as they bomb Gaza
>he said, as the US drags your country’s government back in line because they realized they really couldn’t do anything about the Houthi’s without US support and they aren’t interested in fighting in Yemen right now
European countries like to make big overtures about cultural and political sovereignty but these are just platitudes. The US government and investment corporations tell you what you like and what to do and you do it.
>he said as the only thing his country can do is sabotage and undermine your betters aka the israelite guidebook
>he says as his country worships Blacks and is responsible for the widespread of the worst degeneracies
>he says as sandBlack folk ridiculed his troony army
>he said as his country seethes because it can't force shove its corn syrup on the market and apple has to comply with our standards
laughing stock that can't even throw its weight around anymore
Turdie meltdown
>serf can only identify some of the minor cultural platitudes as “evidence” he isn’t a serf
>serf thinks I care about goatfrickers
>serf thinks I’m american
Your cattle population will continue to vote in people who accept the US yoke around their necks and try to import more brown people to avoid demographic collapse.
There's no difference
Japan is an American Slave Nation. We rewrote their constitution and our military bases are all over Japan.
>WE WUZ JAPANESE AND SHIEET
absolute state of israelitemerimutts
>>WE WUZ
but enough about Japan, the American Proxy State. Haven't Nips stole everything they have from China and America?
Japan is literally not allowed to build aircraft carriers because the US wrote their constitution to not allow it lol
Literal client state behavior
You will never be Japanese.
Stop speaking a western language, stop going to western forums to talk among a group that is vastly western. Go to your own turdworld forum.
It used to be here until you post 2016 zoomers western playing kusoge gaygos ruined this site.
You don't belong here.
>wanpiss
95% of all larger studio games are solely focused on producing the blandest slop imaginable to not offend any palate and he's still angry. Isn't he excited for this incredible cinematic ""gameplay""?
bro their all complaining about the combat... the c**ts produced turn based combat for fricking decades then have the AUDACITY to complain about that aspect... Honestly the advertisement might of been misleading by the sounds of it.
They aren't ready for
>Positioning
>Friendly Fire
>Spell slots
>Concentration saves
Terrain effects
Smooth brain japs only want to see big number go bigger
They're also complaining about having to make dialog choices instead of pressing A
>the c**ts produced turn based combat for fricking decades then have the AUDACITY to complain about that aspect
There're no high budget turn-based games from Japan since... FFX, I think?
're no high budget turn-based games from Japan since... FFX, I think?
>What is a Persona?
Persona is a visual novel.
BG3 has more dialogue than persona 5 lol
its all voiced so the american audience doesn't have to struggle with their illiteracy
I don't know why low IQ turdworlders like you are so enamored by that meme.
There's more text in-between palaces with life events than all of BG3 acts
Persona is a visual novel that would do better by removing entirely the combat
ITT: Lariangays are butthurt that someone dares to dislike their Game of the Millenium.
You guys are amusing.
t.spits on nips every day of the week except when it goes my way
BG3 is an overrated weg with no body options because westards hate attractive women
>shills praise BG3 for having "amazing character creator"
>has less features than Saints Row 2
the entire westoid gaming industry is in a massive downward spiral
>shills praise BG3 for having "amazing character creator"
never happened
lol
Does this mean the characters looks, or with the different races, classes, equipment, and background options
and what makes them a shill?
BG3's character creator is absolute dog shit compared to Dragon's Dogma
its dogshit compared to fricking skyrim
japan version is the worst version btw. it is heavy censored.
Nice, glad they get a taste of shitty localization
Why do leftists seethe about Japanese so much?
Based Nippon. Western Fantasy art style is pig disgusting.
Shut up. Jap game got zero award in TGA 2023 while Mihoyo got 2.
And Solo leveling is AOTS next season so Korea dominates Anime industry which Chinese donghua couldn't achieve.
What is left in Japan?
Mainstream culture? Korea makes it better, and Japan got them obliterated by Johnny's being cracked.
Japan is nothing!!! But Area 11 of Korea and China!!! Vassal state of Korea and China. Hallyu and Zhong liu(China wave) blows upon Japan!!
Weebs be like: FF6 is a rpg
westoids be like
>no gay sex = not an rpg
See

You will always be a homowestoid 🙂
You will always be a poor subhuman shitskin ;^) Americans don't even acknowledge your shithole of a "country".
homowestoids cannot even point to any other country on the map
the only thing you know is the location of your nearest gay bar
We don't have to. Your poor cuckshed does not matter to anyone, shitskin. You are irrelevant to everyone else.
>We don't have to
Looking at your illiteracy rates, we know
See this, why are low IQ morons so enamored by that delusional meme?
>See this
Your literacy rates are lower than the so called shitskin japan lmao
I know you cannot actually read that chart but I am sure you have a literate handler around to read it
I don't have any literacy rates, I'm a single person. You are a shitskin, what does that have to do with Japan? The point of the chart isn't to say the US has the highest rates, just that there is no major illiteracy as measured by a standard test. The US does have a lot of immigrants, which affects the score. In any case, I don't know why I'm talking to a low IQ subhuman that brings down the average IQ of even his country.
>I don't have any literacy rates
I can tell from the way you're struggling to follow this conversation
I'm pointing out your mentally moronic phrasing shitskin, and you didn't respond to the rest of the post. Why don't you go to a shitskin forum with the rest of your kind?
Which American Slave State are you from, turdie?
>WE WUZ JAPANESE AND SHIEET
You will never be Japanese.
Which brownoid shithole are you from again? Oh wait, your shitskin-ass won't say it, you're too much of a pussy for that.
Stop speaking English, a westoid language.
No, this was never a turdworld forum. Stop speaking English.
>Stop speaking English
its not like you EOP westoids can understand any other language

>no RPG mechanics = no RPG
FTFY
Tranimeslop will never be good.
Is levelling up considered an RPG mechanic?
gay sex is the only rpg mechanic that matters
You will never be a woman and your psyops will never work.
If you don't like anime you don't belong on this here.
Your tranimeslop will never, ever be good.
Yes, but just leveling up alone doesn't make something an RPG.
YOU do not belong here, troony tourist.
I told you your psyops will never work, go back to your fricking bbc discord, anime hater.
Do not compare tranimeslop to the actual Japanese games that deserve respect.
No japanese games deserve respect, homosexual
Silent Hill was cool.
I have watched more anime than your entire discord ever will.
Then why do you hate japanese games and love woke western games with no body options, huh?
because the only anime he watches is all yaoi hentai
See
.
NTA, but Just because I hate jarpigs doesn't mean I hate all Japanese games.
What does that have to do with my post? My point was that "trannime" like "troony" and "axe wound" is a natural consequence to rapidly growing troony population on Ganker.
*tranime* is a psysops by actual trannies to make Ganker turn on anime, and its clearly working with the current state of it.
>Trannies actually hate anime
The biggest cope ever, who are you even trying to convince dude
My hero academia is the only anime trannies like because its woke western pandering garbage with mixed couples
Why would trannies hate something they are the main target audience for?
Why do they hate Harry Potter? The people behind anime hates trannies
Most popular anime is shit like dragon ball z jjk
Its aimed at teenage boys primarily
So you're calling yourself a troony
>japs get filtered by 5E D&D
how embarrassing, the supposed higher IQ nation is actually dumb as frick
and weebs try to emulate these mongoloids lmao
WESTERN GAIMU TOO HARD WHERE THE BING BING WAHOO? WHERE DO I PRESS TO MOLEST CHILDREN? SHIT GAIMU!!!!

The majority of Japan loves BG3. It's just a vocal minority that thinks zelda should have gotten an award despite being a glorified dlc pack.
Japanese game used to be great in 2017-20 but how can they fall so soon and get mogged easily by Mihoyo,Lies of P,Dave the diver and BG3?
TGA 2023 is absolute funeral to Japanese game.
No Japanese game won award this time, right? Mihoyo got 2.
Genshin,Starrail,Lies of P, Dave the Diver,Zenless zone Zero,BG3,Black myth Wukong mogs DMC5, Dark souls 3, Sekiro, MHW, Elden ring, RE4, ToTK into a mediocre shovelware.
have a nice day gacha homosexual
If you ever need proof that BG3 is a tencent game, look no further than this.
The tencent shill bot always posts this shit in any thread about BG3 vs Japanese games.
>tranimegay is now spamming /misc/shit
Mind. Broken.
Butt. Blasted.
average BG3 player
Looks like the average FROMsoft fan.
When did the Japanese become such fricking casuals?
main reason why israelites love BG3
>shitskin is still avoiding to name where he is from
Lmao what a pussy. All of you are the same.
Japanese and brown homosexuals who wish they were japanese when they see a game where you have to use two braincells to play: I CAN'T DO THIS!!!!!!!! *jerk offs to hardcore humiliation NTR* *Cuts off penis* *goes to work to please boss* *commits suicide in apartments building*
>jerk offs to hardcore humiliation NTR
enough about israelites
NTR is the most popular porn category in Japan and there have been BLACKED JAVs since the 80s.
>NTR is the most popular porn category in Japan
Gotta create something to export to israel
They aren't satisfied just from the blacked porn from america
>n-no they don't rike it
Holy fricking cope, why are weebtrannies in denial about real Japan?
>I AM GOING TO jerk off TO INTERRACIAL KEKOLDING TO OWN YOU GOY
why are you israelites like this?
>more delusions
This is sad really.
THE JOOOOOOOOS TOOK CONTROL OF JAPAN JUST TO MAKE NTR DOUJIN!!!!!!!( THEY ALSO TOOK CONTROL OF GLORIOUS NINTENDO AND PURPOSEFULLY MADE ZELDA BAD ENOUGH THAT IT EARNED NOTHING!!!!!!!
I doubt ntr is that big in japoon as it is outside of japoon, on western jav sites, ntr is the most searched tag

some of the reviews about the tempo being bad seem reasonable. battle royal games are really bad for me because of the downtime and large maps having an extreme pacing difference. i wanted to get into tarkov because of the aesthetics and combat being really fun, but the tempo of when youd run into people and the wait between fights is so bad.
it seems no different in this case, just the pacing of action, tense moments, and the downtime are not enjoyable.

Why only now and not when TLOU2 won awards from made up companies?
Are these Barry threads? The modus operandi is exactly the same and he's a confirmed Zeldagay.
>I love games with a lot of freedom, where you can change the story depending on your choices, such as Skyrim (TES series), fallout, The Witcher 3, and recently, Starfield.
Todo-san, may we respectfully request that your games be not ugly. Don't do the ugly Todo-san
If you played or support BG3 you are anti humanity. Full stop. You are funding China and thus other fascist anti-semitic states like Russia, North Korea, and Palestine

Modern America is 90% black, who are you fooling?

The ongoing Japanese cope and seethe on twitter and 2chan over Tears of the DLC not winning GOTY is amusing.
