People exaggerate the "privacy, tencent muh data" too much. They almost certainly already collected some data about you without Vanguard for years. You don't need kernel access for this.
The valid issue with Vanguard, or any kernel anticheat, is potential SECURITY (not privacy) risk. As any program with that access level can potentially be abused by 3rd party actors, and this has happened with Genshins anticheat in 2022. Will Riots anticheat ever become a tool for that? Who knows, it heavily depends on how good the team behind vanguard is.

I quit League years ago because of all the cheating. It was so easy to do. Just look it up on the dark web. There was no punishment because accounts were free. I would report every Xerath player and get notified they got punished every time.

It's required to always run it from boot in order to be able to play league/valorant.
In order to function it actively monitors and blocks apps it doesn't trust (it literally tells you when it detects something it doesn't like and blocks it from running)
Turning it off bricks league/valorant until you reboot your pc with vanguard turned on again.
Honestly, it's not so much the potential "stolen data" thing that is actually enraging people, it's the fact that Vanguard is a giant pain in the ass that takes up processing power and slows down your computer, and is constantly on and will actively frick with even stuff you're running outside of League, and considering everyone who plays League spends half their time at least alt tabbed while they wait for queues and load in times, that is causing a lot of frustration. Add into the fact that a ton of people that play League do so on middle or low end PCs meaning the extra processing power Vanguard takes is wrecking their FPS and such, and you have the perfect recipe for disaster. Oh yeah and you can't complain about this on the actual Riot reddit or anywhere else since they ban discussion of it on sight, which is also causing people to get mad. It's beautiful, really.
