It's mainly the addition of more quests, and it's flow on effects. Which really shows some of the weaknesses of the base game (how does adding more content make it worse?) but that's just what it is. Anyway, the additional quests results in the player leveling up quicker and thus breaking the difficulty curve sooner. People like to talk about how end game DD gear makes up 80% of you stats, which is true for BBI. But in the base game its closer to 50/50 between base stats and gear, and you gain more from each level up prior to 100 than later. Also more money. You pretty quickly smash through those defence values and suddenly the world is easy mode, outside of that Drake. It's even more noticeable if you play on hard mode, where the base game because a complete joke after a few quests thanks to all the money and exp you receive. Plus the additional of some very powerful gear you can get at the start of the game.
Additionally, more quests more traveling, and so the devs brought in more port crystals and the fintech ferry stone, which allows you to start bypassing the day night system and general world design. Of course the day night system wasn't quite robust enough in the main game (in terms of making sure traveling continued to be engaging), and the addition of even more quests would have made the base world even more tedious without the ferry stone changes. The main thing that gives me hope for DD2 is that BBI essentially worked as a micro version of the DD1 world design, but with better features which makes multiple trips more enjoyable. I imagine they'll take what they've learned and improve on it DD2.
Anyway, these are all very minor things, and the additions of DD:DA are well worth it.
The main game is reliant primarily on unfinished systems, while BBI is basically entirely the only thing they finished- the combat. It's not really controversial at all, and anyone who was here before DD2 knows that we've talked about just this 2 gorjillion times. Like the whole DD2 core skill ""controversy"", for years the presiding opinion on what DD2 should look like was that Itsuno should trade a reliance on press-button skills for a DMC-like input system. That happens, and then all of a sudden there's a bunch of shitposters having a meltdown over the ""loss"" of skills when it A: isn't a loss, and B: a system most people wanted anyway. I'd pay little heed to anything that goes on in these threads till the excitement and FOMOness of 2 fades.
Seeing things like Downcrack, Flesh Skewer, Dire Gouge etc get worked into Fighter's Core Skills is amazing.
It is infinitely better design and is going to make stamina/ability use a much more deliberate process. Having only your abilities do meaningful damage so "downtime" was boring as frick was one of the biggest downfalls of the originals' combat system.
I love DD but yeah, the first time I beat it I felt like the base game was a tutorial for BBI lol.
Still like the base game, it's quite comfy.

In DD1 it made sense because you started as a strider (melee/ranged hybrid) and then specialized into ranged, but that system doesn't work here especially since each vocation is locked to one weapon.

Its easy. Advanced Archer could be something like an arbalist/trapper. Uses a crossbow and places traps.
Advanced thief could go multiple ways. It could be the one that uses the spear, a katana. A vagaband, a ninja. Its these guys jobs to come up with this kind of shit.

Elden Ring had the right idea with timing and positioning being more important than ever.

That's a downgrade, DD1 had 9 inclinations which made every Pawn feel unique. Having less inclinations means less pawn behavior diversity.
When 4 of the inclinations were "kill the thing" and three were "don't do anything helpful in combat"? No. What we're getting is objectively an upgrade

It's an exhibition demo which is different from a consumer demo. See Dead Rising 1. The TGS demo was nothing like the Xbox Live demo or full game.

A demo would be nice, but the game is going to sell very well regardless. Somehow, a sequel to a niche cult classic generic open world RPG from 2012 is being made, and not only that, but the hype for it is through the roof for some reason. I will never understand.
