Because it is a diablo clone. It feels like you're playing a mix of Torchlight 2 and Grim Dawn. PoE "one button game" is a meme and you use QWERTY for 1-5 skills in that game all the time too, anyone who says they don't use Vaal skills and movement skills are liars. Lost ark has great combat, and alot of good classes, but the worst itemization designed to force you to use the auction house which requires dev bought tokens to use. Oh and you cannot farm the gold the gear/tripods required by raiders unless you play 40+ hours a week of chores on 8+ characters. Many don't want to do this so they just buy gold. This is not even mentioning the gambling you have to do, that requires loads of materials just to upgrade gear and level up skills (end game)
You should have a nice day for comparing itemization to PoE, or ANY of the diablo games.

I've just started the game and playing a necromancer. Seems like you will be able to have an army later on. You can skill into summing additional skeletons, and even force them to spawn only specific ones bow/knight/rogue, and magician/something else. Plus the other creatures you can spawn, of course.

Fire-Lightning-Fire Invoker is pretty fun, good clear and good single target once you get to about level 60. It's a little annoying to play sometimes though, if you mistime your Runebolts or use a Flame Ward/Glyph of Dominion to tank up it'll break your rune sequence and cut your DPS into shreds. Also the duration on the Fire-Lightning-Fire spell is a bit low, I wish there was a way to increase it. I feel like Brand of Deception Invoker is still better, and more fun to gear up.
Chthonic Fissure+Chaos Bolts Warlock has also been pretty fun and strong. Gotten both builds to about level 70 deathless, I think there's promise in them at least

It's got some good systems and mechanics but it's a bit more limited than PoE, it's got some cool bosses and setting elements but the story hasn't really paid off yet, it looks nice but not fantastic, the itemization and buld customization is pretty good
It's recommendable for each skill having its own talent tree on top of characters getting their own passive tree. Making builds that are fun and strong is a treat in this game just like it is in GD and PoE, so it's definitely still worth playing in my book. I've gotten a few hundred hours out of it

I don't know, anon, nothing I played so far can catch the same feeling I had when I was 11 or something and played Diablo 2. I could just make cool character, pick skills I thought they are good, played till the end of normal difficulty, start new character and so on. I could discuss game with buddies at school since internet back then was dialed and limited so everyone played offline. Nobody even considered minmaxing and each unique item found was a surprise. Instead, each time I try new aRPG, it all ends up bland and unfun. Everything must be optimized, skills contain traps and dead ends in infamous Ivory Tower design, all guides focus only on "endgame", completely ignoring everything that comes before it. Everyone acts as if only max level, max skills, minmaxed character with unique specific items in every slot would matter and each and every other drop is trash. Ideal character just mindlessly go from monster to monster, holding one "I win (single target" or "I win (AoE)" button, drinking healing potion from time to time. There is no fun anymore.
I just want to feel same joy and intense gameplay as back then. I don't think anyone can provide it.

There's a beta for an Diablo1-like on Steam called Tower of Kalemonvo that gets posted every now and then in Diablo 2 threads. It's singleplayer only so it might be what you're craving, but I haven't played it yet so I don't know if it's shit or not. It's also made in Unity so make of that what you will.

I haven't been into an ARPG like Last Epoch since D2 LoD. I like Grim Dawn too but it's more of a "downtime game" between other games I like and I could never get into PoE despite trying but it's really too autismal to me and the POV angle and lack of cool class fantasy is really off putting. I like the game, but it runs like shit and it still has 5 year old problems that will never get fixed. Skills on left click worked on the patch I downloaded 3 years ago and hasn't since. They keep adding shit to the main story with you blow through in 10 hours and never touch again yet don't do *anything* to bulk out the endgame outside of the new factions and the performance is still atrocious when the enemy groups get bigger. I was doing an arena last night and my FPS eventually dropped to 40 fps on a 4070TI in a 1080p window.

I'm kinda bored of warlock.
I'm having fun with a marksman focused around explosive traps that shoot detonating arrows and spawn (exploding) ballistas and throw acid pots.
Mana issues are real, though I'm still in the midgame with only minor effort done to solve it.
Necromancer minion explosion is a lot of fun if you just want to go fast. Skeleton mages cast self destruct on your warriors, which have a chance at spawning more skeletons and zombies. It's just a skill in the skeleton mage tree and synergizes with a ton of stuff.
Specced skills are Skeletons, mages, volatile zombies, shade + whatever else and you just want to pump your skeleton number as much as you can.

relics are pretty common the whole way through, a lot of them are so build specific though they'll be totally worthless on your character and the legendary potential versions don't start dropping until later.

I don't want to play Black Paladin. I prefer European because to me it makes more sense. This is why I never touched D2's Paladin. It was weird. When D3 came out I was excited because I could play a witch doctor. I didn't "feel" offended. I was pretty impressed at the character and class itself.
I'm growing tired of people forcing us into these weird character roles that don't line up with our own interpretations of our selves as well as having people who are not black tell us how we should feel about how they butcher our image in many mediums across entertainment when we're just trying to escape like every other race from the real world just for a few hours.
I wanted to try a rouge but wanted it to make it latino or hispanic in looks because I like those people and they often have this suave and dexterous vibe to them. Doesn't mean I think they are thieves. Rogues have a slickness to them and I wanted to make one but I quit the game after making my lv100 mage and turning him into a spellblade.
But character creation aside, the overall tone of the game is very flat and dull. It's like a training ground for people who don't know how to play other ARPGS but are fascinated by the LE class system that, at first glace would be overwhelming to some, is a watered down version of something you'd get from other ARPGs. What's funny is that Grim Dawn has a comprehensive and obvious explanation of the class progression and hybridization while still excelling in making the player understand what their investment entails.
I would score LE, today, 5/10. No hate, just disappointed in the launch and the execution overall. It has potential should the devs regroup and fix the parts that mire the game from becoming something others would love to recommend to others.
Right now it's being recommended by streamers/youtubers who are paid to promote it.

Black Paladins are a dumb interpretation but D2 did it properly where the Paladin came from the Church of Zakarum and joined the Westmarch branch, which is why he's black but also wearing plate.

Imagine criticizing a game this hard for server's issues, that's only $35, that's been only out for 3 days, from a small dev, all while being better than Diablo 4, just because they didn't expect that so many people would be playing it day 1 (It also seems that the issue is not only related to the number of players). It's just like Helldivers 2... People are so entitled these days that they can't even wait 1 week for the game to be 100% working (for everyone) that they have to go out of their way to leave a negative review for a great game just because they aren't able to play it day 1.
I know it should be working day 1 for everyone but the thing you have to keep in mind is that it's not a billion dollar company releasing Slop, it's undoubtedly unfair to hold these two companies accountable in the same level of a Blizzard for example. All things considered, if the game isn't fixed in 1-2 weeks, I could 100% agree with a negative review from people unable to play the game online. But people need to chill and remember you're not paying $70 to a Billion dollar company for a broken Pay-to-Win game.
