Scarlet and Violet in depth discussion

Lets discuss these games with informed opinions possible and what can possibly be improved or what shouldn’t have happened.
Lets not bring the graphical and fps glitches into this discussion since everyone is already well aware the games have these issues. Same with Dexit since its kind of beating on a dead horse at this point.
I mostly just want to hear constructive opinions and comparisons in terms of gameplay it offers.

I’ll start with my own points regarding what could have been improved or better for the game:
>exp share and set mode should be optional, that or at least make exp share an endgame key item
>being able to buy basically every important item was a good thing but some should have been more difficult to obtain, such as making bottlecaps cost LP and not cash
>sandwich powers were all fun and good but a bit to overpowered if you ask me, being able to blanket an entire biome in a specific pokemon kinda put a downer on finding actually rare pokemon.
>gym leaders should’ve testastrelized a pokemon of their type into a different one, other random npc trainers should have done the same. The only creative case I can think of that use tera type creatively was iono and her levitate tera electric mismagius
>tera raids should have stayed turn based with a timer
>the game desperately needs something to do in the post game, even if they might be saving battle tower for the dlc it should have been in the base game
>why they took out ability interactions with wild pokemon is beyond me, this could have easily stayed and have been a positive.

Heres some things I did the game did well:
    >TMs are finite but you can endlessly create them with loot, this is good because it gives the player reason to farm the different areas of the game
    >the bosses while easily overleveled are decently designed for the most part
    >certain poke balls being incredibly rare makes certain pokemon have more value when trading, i’ll admit that while keeping the rarity is a good thing they should have let you have more control over which ones show up in an auction or the academy tournament rather than just complete rng
    >locking access to certain parts of the world to the miraidon/koraidon upgrades is absolutely a good thing and adds a nice sense of progression
    >the story was actually decent and suspenseful by game freak standards tho I am aware this is probably the most subjective point
I am actually okay with ability patches being ultra rare items from 7 star raids or the academy I just wish there was a battle tower shop you could buy them from for an excessive amount of points, it does add value to breeding in a game that trivialized most of it with how easy it is to get bottlecaps

I think the worst offender were the Team Star base raids. They were SO fricking easy. You had 10 minutes. TEN MINUTES. I have no fricking idea how you could spend 5 minutes on it, let alone TEN.
And all you did was run around and press a button sometimes.
It was the most half-baked part of the entire game. Hell it wasn't even half-baked, that shit barely saw the fricking oven. I can't believe they thought it was ok to even leave in the game. I rather just would've fought a bunch of trainers than doing raids.

But other than that, I actually really enjoyed the game. The open world stuff is a bit half-baked too, especially cities felt really barren and just placed in the middle of nowhere. Felt soulless (with a few exceptions).
The craftable TM stuff is really good though. This way they can give you powerful TMs early in the game without making you overpowered. In SwSh, you only got total shit tier TMs until the end of the game since it didn't want to give you infinite amounts of actually good moves. The crafting system is ideal for TMs imo.

What made SV shine was definitely the story. The 3 story lines were interesting and the characters were charming and distinct. Bringing all 3 characters together for the finale and having their personalities clash was fricking great. The plot twist with the professor was actually pretty clever, and I love all the mysteries it set up with Paradox mons and Terapagos.

SwSh were so bad that I considered dropping the franchise, but SV was very much a step in the right direction.

      >SwSh were so bad
I like pokemon games that say, “go here here and then here” on a big tv. I’m just reading dialogue the whole time anyways
Is that was bugged you about SwSh?

No it was the totally dogshit story that was very obviously incomplete, and dozens of absolutely baffling design decisions in the Wild Area. It was infuriating.

    -There shouldve been difficulty selection
-And full chatacter optimization by now. Considered the school is for every age, it makes no sense to still be a toddler.
-Gyms shouldve been much more worked on and unique
-I want an option to bring pokemon without catching them in a drugball
-Needed to be way less chill
-Battle system shouldve changed by now and I want pokken's system specifically
-Needed a more serious main story
-Needed to use the paradox concept way better
    -Koraidon should use the wheels
-DLC should be in the main game
-Needs a better and less casual soundtrack
Idk what else the whole basic concept isnt good enough really. Le school and le parents its way too boring and outdated. There isnt even a single serious character with a serious role.
Also more work on the pokemon designs in general

Did we play the same game?
The main story was about a workaholic professor who was so obsessed with their goal that they neglected their only son throughout his entire life and threatened to endanger the entirety of Paldea with dangerous Pokémon. Their messed up priorities ultimately caused them to get literally killed by a Pokémon. Arven, who probably isn't even a legal adult yet, lived entirely on his own for many years and was coping for probably about 2 years that his only parent was either dead or finally abandoned him for good. And as if that wasn't enough, the only living being that ever cared about him got horribly injured when he tried to find out what happened to his parent.

This shit is pretty serious for a game for little children. They can't go much further than that.

Ameriturds, your fatherless "problems" arent "serious" theyre ridicolous.

The titan + Area Zero story was pretty much perfect when you account for the target audience.
I'd put it up there with BW, which had a more ambitious story but couldn't live up to its potential because it was too heavy for first graders.

If youre a mentally handicapped tasteless child why are you here? I thought this was 18+ only. Even then you arent the tArGeD AoUIdIenCe and never will be, troony.

Have they said anything about actual clothing in the DLC? Went back to Shield for the tower Ribbons and it's fricked me up seing how unique my trainer was in comparisson to the Paldea one

I definitely agree that one-time-use, but craftable TMs is the best solution for TMs they've come up with so far. Infinite TMs are boring and finite TMs are annoying. Crafting more if you want them is perfect.

My least favorite part of the game are the Classes.
They are just boring and the tests are really easy too.
You don't even get any good rewards from it aside from Galarian Meowth.
And one of the teachers needs you to give him Herba Mystica for a stupid trinket that does nothing.

I feel like they were just trying to bank on the persona audience here. To be honest i don’t necessarily disagree with your points but i do feel like the school stuff was mostly harmless.
I guess I’ll give you this, the school stuff should’ve been about as hard as the school stuff in stadium 2. I thought that was an interesting way to teach kids in game mechanics.

I liked them for lore reasons.

OH And how could I forget about that awful looping music?
I'll give you one for the lore, the Rock Type Gym Leader + History ones were cool
I guess the Art one was neat too with the Brassius
I hope the Scarlet & Violet animated series or Horizons expands on them.

There’s something about ranked battles that isn’t really engaging. Nothing to show or improve upon unless I’m practicing for an event imo. How would you guys improve it?

Let me pick which definitions for pokemon is best because sometimes I like the other version’s better.
Make the pokedex a hard stopping point before progressing the story (I like Blue because of this)
Keep the Exp Share thingamajig on, you b***hes can stay mad.
No EVs gained until after you KILL the champion
Bring back 4 way battles from Sun and Moon with something whacky and crazy and happening after every turn
Delete every town in the game and replace it with an alpha pokemon you have to fight with a type disadvantage
    KILL your father on cam
MARRY your rival sorry boys, your rival is a boy
FRICK the news van following you

...why the frick did they get rid of passive EV training? It has been in the past 2 gens and it was really useful. I see next to no one talking about this, but for me it's a massive step down. PokéJobs I can take or leave because raids are ridiculous and as a result I have every single Paldean Pokémon level 100 at this point (even NFEs) but EVs are entirely a different manner and event raids only give vitamin items.

It's extremely easy to farm money in SV, and you can get vitamins from that, they're not exorbitantly expensive either.

        Anonymous

Yeah but I'm not always at my console to farm. For someone that has a full time job and plays other games and has other hobbies, being able to EV train 60 Pokémon at once is really helpful, even if it takes a full day.

    >legends overworld catching and pokémon interactions
    >more creative paradox pokémon
    >gym leaders absolutely should have scaled with the amount of gym badges
    >more consideration for pokémon spawn placement
    >repel

      >gym leaders should have scaled
Disagree. Ruins the sense of progression completely. Its actually a good thing that the world is open ended but tries to bar the player entry to certain areas via bike upgrades. The world scaling to the player would just cheapen that experience.

      >legends overworld catching
The thing I will disagree the most with since it means you never have to battle a wild pokemon ever to catch it. I still can’t believe PLA even let me catch legendaries without fighting them, it truly made me wonder why the option to fight even existed.

koraidon is cool, it's been a while ever since we had a cool legendary
