      GaaS is cancer.

Daily player retention isn’t only GaaS shit. Pokémon and daily events have been almost ubiquitous since Gen 2 with shit like Berry Farming, special spawns, daily NPCs, and various gimmicks like poke pelago. Gen 9 is oddly lacking in things like that. All there really is is Raids, PvP, breeding, and Shiny Hunting. They did just add Ogre Ousting but it being basically locked to multiplayer for higher difficulties makes it harder to get a lot of playtime out of.

          >All there really is is Raids, PvP, breeding, and Shiny Hunting.
Eh, people think that but there's actually decent amount of replayable content, at least for a modern first game.
The gym tests with minigames like the sunflora hide and seek and olive rolling can be replayed with a hard mode and repeated for items.
The team star bases are the best way to farm LP and then there are the boss rematches
Of course there's the tournament and the instructor sidequests
          Daily auctions
          And catchable titans

I suppose it's not a lot compared to BW, DP and RS but compared to XY, SM and SS our cup runneth over with varied content.
Not to mention Indigo Disk seems to be adding a bit more on top like the flight minigame and room customization.

Why the actual frick is GF refusing to put in literally anything resembling a postgame?
No battle tower at all when that’s been a staple since fricking CRYSTAL? If fricking ILCA can make a terrifying battle tower then GF can at least put one in

          >defending SWSH
Let’s not be moronic. SWSH looked a bit better and had a postgame, but it was sterile as frick.

          >ILCA can make a terrifying battle tower
Sure, as long as you mean “terrifyingly bad”. ILCA can’t into 3v3 singles balancing. Pumping up the difficulty on top of removing a lot of team building options is an easy way to make an already volatile format even more so. Tips into “frustrating” territory when every other opponent has a non insignificant RNG chance to beat you even if you have their team lists pulled up and play your team perfectly. As the player, RNG is heavily weighted against your favor because your ultimate goal is to maintain a streak. Things like rampant sashes (and multiscale) are also an issue.

          >Why the actual frick is GF refusing to put in literally anything resembling a postgame?
Because they unironically believe that they don't need to make postgame when online battles exist.
Hope you can inject or have a friend to supply you with all of the meta staples from SWSH, its DLCs, Legends and the version of Paldea you don't have, or your enjoyment and ability to compete against most players is inherently tied to how much of a paypig to the Pokemon franchise you are!

I loathe Game Freak’s insistence on story + characters in this series, but even I can’t deny that SV is the best they’ve ever achieved (low bar, but still). You’re delusional if you think otherwise.

      >pokemon home is still a fricking embarrassment
Well, yeah, but it’s also free to use unless you’re storing an obscene number of mon long term. It beats Bank in that regard.

      >gaming has phenomenal in 2023

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt with other consoles because I’ve been out of the loop for a year or two. The Switch really hasn’t had a great showing, though.

          >Mario Wonder
Seems good. Haven’t made the time to pirate / buy yet.

          >TOTK
Meh. It’s like an expanded BOTW mod. Not terrible, but also disappointing for people who were hoping for a larger return to form. The BOTW formula (loose / no structure) just feels like a waste of time to me as someone with increasingly limited time.

          >Pikmin 4
Seems good, but it’s a niche title that really doesn’t appeal to me. Only played 3 because I got it for free on the WiiU. Don’t think it’s fair to call it a heavy hitter.

          >Metroid Prime
You can’t be serious. Certainly not a bad game, but remakes / remasters / ports will never count towards “great” years in gaming.

not them but i think honestly 2023 has been the switches best year since 2017, at least for me. this is the only year where things i actually care about have come out consistently throughout the year for the first time since the 3ds generation

          >2023 has been the switches best year since 2017

They're not challenging. They require exact, niche builds and coordinated teamwork. I want to use my team mates.

Any level 100 500bst mon (with consideration to type matchups) should have a decent chance. Instead you gotta search online, grind a min you'll use once, and your reward is a regular Mon with a stamp.

Raids fricking suck, on top of being buggy as shit, the lag is insane and there's barely any rules, all of this is made worse by the huge amount of children running in with their fricking Skeledirge and triggering the boss's shield because all they know how to do is spam their strongest attack, then they die 5 times and cut your timer in half.
Not to mention raids are practically solved anyways, Iron Hands, Azumarill, Raidcat, Blissey, out of all the Pokemon you really only need 5 or so to handle every raid solo.

The rewards aren't worth it either, I don't care about H-Typhlosion. They need to start putting shinies and more0 mythicals in these so people will play them.

      >obvious bait
Ignoring that, I think SV gets too much hate. On a console where other exclusives have become increasingly corporate and innovation-adverse (barring a few exceptions), at least SV attempted something new, and if you can get past layers of incompetence and poor project management, there is a solid beginning to what could be the future of pokemon in SV. My biggest gripe with the games is that there is almost nothing worth doing in single player / co-op outside of dex completion and seven star raids.

  17. 6 months ago

Very few people want to EV/IV train a Pokemon with a shit set that only works for raids while being complete dogshit for online battles. And a lot of those few people will quickly realize that the tera raids are a laggy unplayable mess. Also most people don't care that much about some mark and would rather just use home/wait for DLC2.

It’s honestly pretty easy, though. Sandwiches make the farm go quickly, and you can train multiple mon at once. Raid sets are always easy to build, as well (full HP & ATK / SPA). Some mon (Qwilfish, Iron Hands, etc) are so good in raids that you can get by with just a handful of sets.

Because the raids suck. They're bugging and lagging as frick, boss gets to do all sorts of bullshit while you wait for your menu to pop up, and getting the raids you want are a pain in the ass. For some reason, you can't just refresh for new raids on the raid menu instantly, you have a wait a long time for the option to occur. And when you find the raid you want, it takes a long waiting process just to tell you that you can't join. It's just not worth it, anymore, especially since Home transfer is available now.
