weird thread OP to counter his own text with his own image
Xenoblade X is one of maybe three examples ever.
>t. isekai drone
>Xenoblade X came out 2015
>2024 is next week
>name one (1) game since then that OP is looking for
Cause sci-fi is lame and fantasy is fricking awesome
sci-fi is not popular anymore
I will never understand why. Is it really so hard to do some basic research? Cause nobody is asking for a playable text book, just get a basic grasp on the physics of the technology featured in your story.
This is the most frustrating shit in the world. Fantasy with tron lines can frick off.
I want true scifi, but most end up being a mixture of mostly fantasy elements and some sci fi
nothing will ever beat phantasy star 1-4 so why bother trying
We have star ocean, xeno (3 franchises here), every other FF, Trails, almost every bamco jrpg at this point besides Tales (even then Arise was also a sci-fi game), hell the only RPG dev that doesn't regularly do sci Fi is atlus if you discount the elements utilized in SMT and ignore shart hackers
>We have star ocean
>Star Ocean
Filthy lies. Should be sued for false advertising.
>Xeno
Only Saga and X.
>Final Fantasy
What are you smoking, and can I have some?
>Trails
have a nice day.
>Tales
Nevermind, I no longer want whatever you're smoking.
>Final Fantasy
You build a spaceship and go to the fricking moon in Final Fantasy 4 you dumb frick.
FF7 is full on steam punk science fiction as well.
Next time you play some games before you make such a dumb thread.
Not that Anon but that's not really enough to consider a game a full blown sci-fi and/or space RPG and you also have no evidence that that Anon is OP.
Yeah frick off OP, Xenoblade isn't nearly a full blown sci-fi. It's just fantasy with mechs.
This is what you want you absolute plebeian homosexual
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinite_Space
>Everyone i disagree with is OP
Nice coping mechanism there pal.
I can smell your homosexualry through the screen OP, everyone else is normally posting but you decided to pull out the NTA card and to add "you also have no evidence that that Anon is OP." which is something no oldgay would ever do.
Thus I conclude that you are the butthurt OP, it has nothing to do with other posters in this thread.
I don't even have a single Elma image saved onto my computer. You're being a schizo.
Literally all of that is invalidated by the presence of literal magic.
Also this. Next you'll be saying that fricking Sonic counts as sci-fi just because it has robots in it. Come on.
>Literally all of that is invalidated by the presence of literal magic.
You mean materia? How does that make it not sci-fi?
Because it's literally called 'science' fiction. Ain't nothing scientific about magic.
>Because it's literally called science 'fiction'. Ain't nothing fiction about science.
Fiction is not an excuse to spread misinformation.
How much autism do you have? As someone on the spectrum, surely you must appreciate that other things also exist on one.
>MUH AUTISM
I accept your concession, you anti-intellectual moron. Why is it so much to ask for fricking science fiction to actually have some fricking science in it? Why do you stupid c**ts constantly defend dumb shit in games? Actually have a nice day.
>Why is it so much to ask for fricking science fiction to actually
>Why would fiction just go out and be fictitious?
Holy frick have a nice day you autistic garbage. Humanity would be better off.
>Only Saga and X.
TvTropes much? Its the one place where Xenoblade X is said to be sci fi but not the rest of the trilogy.
>can't come up with a real argument
>just accuse someone of looking at another website
>this somehow means you win the debate
All the xeno games feature heavy sci-fi elements, it doesn't need arguing if you've actually beaten any of the games.
Saga and X are the only ones that don't have magic. Again, there's nothing scientific about magic bullshit.
>Side quests are things put there for game content, not real story.
... Have you never actually played a JRPG? Or are you just stupid?
>Saga and X are the only ones that don't have magic
There is 0 magic in Gears and 0 magic in Blade unless you want to actually contradict with facts.
I assume he's talking about stuff like pyra and mythra just summoning magic out of nowhere? 'ether' in xb1 also seems pretty magical, and melia can summon spirits.
Which I'd agree with if ether also wasn't a concept in X, which he claims has no magic.
>muh third law
Frick off with that cop out bullshit. Why the hell do people go so far out of their way to desperately take the science out of SCIENCE fiction?
Speaking of magic, nice trick pulling that lie out of your ass.
>Speaking of magic, nice trick pulling that lie out of your ass.
https://xenoblade.fandom.com/wiki/Ether#Xenoblade_Chronicles_X
Frick off
>virus link to a shitty alleged """fan""" wiki
I don't recall ether being mentioned once in X.
Okay, thanks for making it clear you're arguing in bad faith
>bad faith
You're the one so butthurt about someone rightfully calling out the intrusion of magic bullshit into sci-fi, that you're posting virus links. Frick you.
star wars isn't scifi?
Nope.
A planet inexplicably acting as a universal translator and granting robots independence from their destroyed ai pod isn't magic?
Literally the only explanation given is Elma going
>there's something about this planet
anytime there's something they had to handwave away because Takahashi ran out of dev time to make a finished game, or was so up his ass he "foreshadowed" reveals for a sequel that never came.
Mira probably uses nanomachines or something, it's not that strange.
>avoiding the issue with yet more "IT'S FICTION BRO, JUST TURN YOUR BRAIN OFF!!!!!!!!"
Go die in a fricking ditch, you worthless piece of shit.
>Star Ocean
Only SO4 counts as a real sci-fi game with the rest being fantasy JRPGs. And even a good portion of 4 is fantasy.
>the only RPG dev that doesn't regularly do sci Fi is atlus if you discount the elements utilized in SMT and ignore shart hackers
Etrian Odyssey too
New Phantasy Star when? And i don't mean MMO.
Xenoblade 3 released last year.
It's a universal RPG problem. West at least tries. JRPGs always favored "kitchen sink fantasy" approach over specifically themed settings, though.
>West at least tries
Do they though? Name me three sci-fi WRPGs released in the past decade beside Shartfield.
Hard mode: name a single good one.
Why did she do it?
Xenoblade 3 came out last year
Live a Live remake came out last year
Star Ocean 2 remake just came out
I'd like more as well but just how many do you expect?
Sci-fi JRPGs are a dime a dozen, and for good reason since they all suck except OP's pic related.
Sci-fi is generally too soulless for a genre that shines when focusing on its characters. It works better for gameplay-focused genres like scrolling shooters and strategy games.
FF14 had an absolutely fantastic sci-fi expansion though.
Spoken like someone who doesn't even play sci-fi games.
Or someone who hasn't engaged with any science fiction media for that matter. Pretty much all of the most well regarded sci-fi works are strongly character focused. The frick.
>Pretty much all of the most well regarded sci-fi works are strongly character focused.
That depends upon what you mean. This is ONLY true in an episodic format. Shit like Stargate Universe and BSG are niche shit and newer Star Trek only gets by on trademark power.
This is why it doesn't work for games.
I am genuinely unable to parse what you're trying to say
>This is why it doesn't work for games.
Yes, because video games don't have episodic adventures. Like, oh I dunno, SIDEQUESTS. Even then, the idea that a character focused narrative is impossible outside of an episodic format is nonsense.
Also
>Stargate Universe
>specifically Universe
You have to be trolling. There's no way.
Side quests are things put there for game content, not real story.
Also, what is there to be trolling about Universe? Do you not understand the difference between episodic and serialized?
Because the difference is why people like TNG, but most people do not like DS9.
>FF14 had an absolutely fantastic sci-fi expansion though.
???????????????????????
I tried the first Phantasy Star, and bounced right the frick off of it.
I always confuse Phantasy Star with Star Ocean.
I hate how japs don't make them really, and the west just focuses on space and spacheships almost exclusively. I wish there was more stuff that scratched the itch for something more in the direction of Mass Effect that actually focuses on the scifi universe and people/culture.
>the west just focuses on space and spacheships almost exclusively
This is a big sticking point for me. I like sci-fi but I don't really care for space operas, so I feel alienated when sci-fi takes place in a space world with credits and Federations and whatnot. I kind of agree with
that the "tech-y" skin is such a lazy way to do it. I don't know what I want but that's definitely what I don't want lol.
>I don't really care for space operas
have a nice day
Of course it was. Although the fricked part is that 16 doesn't have any Japanese characters either.
Robots are boring.
Everything is boring without the right imagination.
Xeno exists
Trails exists
Star Ocean exists
Read the thread.
>Trails exists
Frick off and go back to your pedo general, freak.
I love Xenoblade but I hate sci fi
>"I want SF rpg", say the person who never read a single SF in his life.
Fantastygay tbh, can anyone explain the appeal of sci-fi? It seems very repetitive to me, I've never really played any sci-fi games bar NMS.
Because when science is advanced enough it is indistinguishable from magic, so people keep calling scifi games fantasy.
A fantasy game is one that is deliberately a medieval or folklore tale larp
The real sci-fi was the friends we made along the way
No Man's Sky isn't really true scifi. I don't think video games are really a good avenue for scifi because most video game writers are fricking hacks and you're not going to get any kind of interesting exploration of the human condition interacting with advancing technology from people sweatshop writing a million lines of throwaway quips for action loot game with rpg mechanics #58.
What people mean when they say they want scifi games is just games with a "tecy" skin. Instead of swords they have ligtsabers, instead of magic, they have psionics or big metal rectangles with lots of lines and blinking lights that shoot lots of lasers or some shit. They don't want anything past that, basically just star wars. This dude
is a perfect example. SCIFI VIDEO GAMES need robots! They need alien babes! Magic can exist as long as you reverse the polarity techno babble enough. Video game scifi is for people insecure about playing video games. No, no, I'm not playing a fantasy game, that's for babies, this is science fiction. What's the science? uhhh the girl sucking my dick is blue, what else do you want?
>What people mean when they say they want scifi games is just games with a "techy" skin.
Yeah, what's the problem?
>Video game scifi is for people insecure about playing video games. No, no, I'm not playing a fantasy game, that's for babies, this is science fiction. What's the science? uhhh the girl sucking my dick is blue, what else do you want?
Oh, the crime of wanting another genre of video games to, you guess it, have more games. Also, it's called science FICTION for a reason. That's like crying about why fantasy isn't historically accurate enough to the middle ages. Off your high horse, homosexual.
>lightsabers
>melee weapons of any kind
Frick off.
>That's like crying about why fantasy isn't historically accurate enough to the middle ages.
Final Fantasy 16 "justified" not having any non-white people with exactly that excuse.
I feel like that was a just panic PR excuse when the truth is that they just never considered it. FF is engrained with european beauty and inspiration, so naturally the characters will be based on that, with some japanese characters since this is a japanese franchise.
Nobody cares about hard scifi and they never have. Your grandpa was reading pulp scifi and not fricking Asimov's israelite ass.
Japan doesn't really like sci-fi or fantasy anymore. They only like sci-fantasy.
Are settings where the cast are trapped in vidya hell scifi or fantasy?
Sci fi is talmudislop, fantasy resonates will our true nature and mythology, while sci fi is propaganda for scientism and is fundamentally rootless and babylonian.
anon, easy on the /misc/
Coz if you put a dragon/orc in your game and call it "fantasy quest legend: the stygian blarg of yorr" or some crap, it instantly sells over a million copies.
I will never understand why.
What're some recent western sci-fi rpgs?
Sci-Fi JRPG needs to have:
- Mechs/Spaceships/Other Advanced Technology
- Robots(abstract/humanoid/animalistic)
- Intelligent Alien races
- Other Alien lifeforms, like fauna or flora
- Futuristic city or base
- Politics(no, not the bad kind)
- Zero reliance on magic or magical entities(whatever "magical power" that exist in-universe must have a science-y mumbo jumbo explanation about it)
Because everyone wants to copy isekai now, all anime wants to be isekai, and thus all games want to be isekai too, which is almost always generic fantasy Dragon Quest land. Nobody wants to make scifi games because nobody is making scifi anime because nobody is writing scifi isekai LNs.
