I didnt play vanilla in years and even back in the day I mostly played total realism and EB but man do the vanilla meme units feel good to use.
Just having a group of forester warbands protecting one druid unit that is chanting in a snowy forest while the other half of the army is in the open using warcry.
It brings out the Goosebumps and something wild in me every time.

I do remember loosing 3 stacks of frickers to 3 pretorians cohorts. They somehow got stuck on some rocks and pretorians went through them like a 1000 degree knife through butter. Frickers were 3 chevrons gold after that battle.
Any sex mods? That allows you to frick them instead.

I was once storming a town as Romans, and was chasing the last enemy regiment in a rout to the central square, where a unit of those things were standing.
When the men reached the square, the women started screaming at them, which rallied them and made them charge back out. They got predictably massacred, and the panicked remains fled back towards the square.
Only for the women to scream at them again.
It happened three times before I managed to get to the square and end it.
It's a good thing that war is so terrible, or we should grow too fond of it.

I liked MTW2 and its use of using the Timurs and Mongols as threats. They really fricked up the whole middle east and most players had to fortify a few of their castles to thin their numbers. Wish Rome had something like this with Germans or Gauls, because I'm assuming if you captured just one of their cities, they would respond with large armies with decent stats.
