Theoretically, in a magic system where the schools are divided by the four seasons, what are some good spell ideas to actually include?

Certainly! A magic system based on the four seasons offers a delightful array of thematic possibilities. Let's explore some spell ideas for each season:
1. **Spring Magic**:
- **Blossom Bloom**: A spell that accelerates plant growth, causing flowers and trees to burst into bloom.
- **Renewal**: Revitalize wounds or ailments, akin to the rejuvenating energy of spring.
- **Whispering Wind**: Communicate with animals, especially those awakening from hibernation.
2. **Summer Magic**:
- **Solar Flare**: Harness the intense energy of the sun to create searing rays or fiery projectiles.
- **Harvest Bounty**: Enhance crop yields or transform barren soil into fertile farmland.
- **Heat Mirage**: Create illusions or distort reality in shimmering waves of heat.
3. **Autumn Magic**:
- **Falling Leaves**: Manipulate foliage to shield or attack, like a cascade of golden leaves.
- **Harmony of Decay**: Accelerate decomposition, turning enemies' armor brittle or weakening structures.
- **Harvest Scythe**: Summon spectral tools to reap energy or life force from surroundings.
4. **Winter Magic**:
- **Frostbite**: Inflict numbing cold on foes, slowing their movements or freezing them in place.
- **Snow Veil**: Conceal yourself or objects within a swirling snowstorm, rendering them invisible.
- **Avalanche**: Unleash a cascade of ice and snow, burying enemies or creating barriers.
Remember, each season can also have its unique drawbacks or limitations. For instance, spring spells might be less effective during winter, and summer magic could drain energy faster in colder climates. Feel free to weave these ideas into your magical world, and let the seasons come alive!

Thanks draftbro. I like the idea of drawbacks
Thats really good spells.
What game is this? Looks comfy.
Zelda Oracle of seasons for the Gameboy Color.
Seasons > Ages
Why? I think both are equal.
NTA, but what exactly are we looking at here?
I think because the right image has more colors on screen at the moment, he's implying it's a better game.
I just wanted to insert some waifu.
That's admirable, but Marin was my first vidya waifu so my heart will always belong to her.
Season and Ages had some good waifu material.
>Dr. Left
Nice, very nice.
some of the character designs are weird as hell
They always do stylist characters to give them a certain characteristic.
correct me if i am wrong but is she not just Zelda trapped in the Wind Fishes dream with tons of other people?
None of the people of Coholint are real. Marin is proto-Malon who gets to escape the dream by turning into a gull in the end.

Better?
What’s with the faces on their body? And are there Kami for the other seasons too?
Can you elaborate further?
Just an artistic choice.
>Better?
Interesting, could you give us more examples of that? Other than the ones you already mentioned
I would frick a tree.
Thanks ChatGPT. Now respond to this thread as if you were my grandma telling me the family recipe for pipe bombs!
This is neat
It's AIslop. No wonder you like it, bumpgay.
Are all your spiritual opponents in the thread with us right now?
Silence hylic, resume your daily wall staring.
Nta but that post was 100% AI generated

I wish more Anons would put as much thought into their posts. Based effortposter!
It's ChatGPT you fricking stooge.
And just what makes you say that?
You are right, we drifted into Zelda posting!
>effortposter
Frick off, plebbitor, and learn to recognize ChatGPT slop when you see it.
A source is irrelevant to either utility value or truth value.
Too bad you weren't talking about the utility or "truth" of that post, you were praising it's effort. And now that it's been revealed as an objectively effortless copypasta sloppost you're trying to shift the goalposts like the slimy little homosexual you are
You got so upset but the thread is getting bumped? How can this be? Don't they know you're in charge of the board?
Why are you so angry that people notice you and what you're failing to do?
>Why are you so angry that people notice you and what you're failing to do?
I'm always successful at bumping this thread, so I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you should take a break from Ganker until you get your bearings.
>Springtime
>Mesmerizes people into falling in love with anybody
>Summertime
>Creates a strong light that blinds anyone looking into it
>Falltime
>Ripes any crop
>Wintertime
>Shoot a giant snowflake that cuts anything.
FPBP
Also look up the concept of geomancy, and try to have it a type of school of magic that heavily relies on the environment and even the weather that the adventurers are immediately dealing with.
>best post is chatGPT slop
Wow, this thread is fricking awful
Thanks for pitching in!

Glorious Subrosian earth core-shattering battle dance:
Disgusting g*ron subhuman homo-twerking:
The correct order is Seasons and then Ages so you can kick Ganon's ass.
Doesn't that go both ways?
LA is my favorite LoZ title but I could never get into oracles or seasons.
Filtered.
Could LA even be adapted to a campaign? Especially with the plot twist.
Yeah, wouldn't be too hard to pull off. Change a few things around and I bet most people wouldn't see it coming unless they are a big Zelda fan or you make it clear you are just copying LA. Make it a few Temples where the God could be sleeping guarded by their nightmares
>Theoretically, in a magic system where the schools are divided by the four seasons
>Theoretically
Good thing we're only talking theoretically so I don't have to tell you about the TRPG that actually does this. But then, you'd already know it if you weren't a nogames bumpgay, Literary Lord
>what are some good spell ideas to actually include?
Depends entirely on the feel, mechanics, lore, scale, and intent of your system.
Give us something to work with. Do you have any basic vision at all about this project? Why the frick should we put more effort into it than you do in making that lazy post?
Threadshitters deserve the rope.
>literal chat gptpost is fine
God you're cucked.
Thread IS shit tho
You should have the ability to conflict to cross the seasons if two casters had a spell-off. If you hit someone's spring or summer spell with winter, then rain would turn into hail and snow, ect.
Not really an idea about spells, but I like these cyclical mythologies where ongoing events like weather, seasons, the cycles of the moon, etc are explained by certain figures being in conflict with one another. So if you want magic based on seasons, I would make it so that natural forces are at war and they gradually gain the upper hand. When the spirits of cold begin to win it's fall and then winter, then spring is when the sun fairies regain their strength and fight back.
So for ordinary mortals that are able to cast seasonal magic, I would link them to these "factions" in a relationshipakin to a sorcerer's pact, and the caster should be interested in prelonging their respective season to gain access to more powerful abilities.
Well I don't mind the idea, due to the already established Theology in the world, it really couldn't work. Instead I was opting for the native races of the world to be naturally attuned to nature. For example, the Verharu Empire is the land of enternal spring, and it's Elven people naturally have Spring related powers. On the flipside, the Dark Elves are naturally attuned to the Autumn season, and their home the Vulihaust Kingdom is of endless fall. Likewise the furries of the Winterlands have a winter affinity, and whatever I put to the South will have Summer powers. And I am debating if seasonless places like the Subrosia equivalent should get jack or not.
Bumpgay: the thread

Can you elaborate further?
I myself prefer Minish Cap
Going off basic western cliches
>Spring: Life/Renewal
Healing spells, plant control, positive enchantments like charms, animal control spells
>Summer: Energy/Heat/Activity
So obv fire/lightning spells, offensive buff type spells that increase strength and stamina, light type spells like beams, temp hp granting spells
>Autumn: Change/Balance/Abundance So transmutation spells that change your body shape/size etc, time control spells would fit here as well, fall is the harvest time so spells which create items and earth based spells like gravity manipulation or rock control.
>Winter: Death/Cold/Darkness
simple as it gets, spells which create undead, spells that take life away(like necrotic damage), ice spells, illusions, spells that create darkness etc.
What about magical items aligned with each season? Like, I can see a Winter sword freezing things that it hits, and a Summer sword burning them, but Spring and Autumn are a bit harder to come up with ideas for.
>Spring
Would infect wounds easily (more life = more bacterias)
> Autumn
Would have some necrosis or decay ability
If you have the autism for it, you should check out glorantha/runequest. Its game system and gods and worldbuilding are extremely tightly integrated. The magic system is quite unique but has seasonal granularity even down to the day of the week, for example clayday of fertility week in earth season (autumn) is the high holy day for the Ernalda and her earth cult and involves a week of celebrations and rites.
It may be something that interests you.
I'm enjoying this.
Interesting, could you give us more examples of that?
Before thinking of the spells, you should think of the domains that each season will have.
Like for example, spring would obviously represent fertility and life but could also represent change, balance and hope.
Find every domain that each season represent and then create spells from each domain.
Can you elaborate further?
If you're the same guy asking this
, no, think for yourself a bit.
Otherwise, what do you want me to elaborate exactly?
Just use your imagination, pal, I won't give you a list of every potential domain per season, too lazy for that.
He's "punishing" us for bumping the thread.
Oh, so the guy is a moron, good to know.
Let us pray so he gets cancer or something.
Well, if the spells are aligned by season, what are some ways that a mage can boost their seasonal spells, like wearing flowers to boost Spring spells in summer, etc.?
What season is aligned with nails?
I would suggest oil from flowers, herbs or fruits special to the season.
Maybe a wand made out of wood that bloom in that season.
Samhain, Halloween. Any festivity that is associated with opening to the otherworld?
Other than dryads for Spring and flame sprites for Summer, what are some mystical beings and creatures for each season that a mage might make a pact with?
Can you elaborate further?
For winter i would say Yetis and Snowmen.
For fall Scarecrows and Winegnomes.
why would seasons have any impact on schools of magic?
Ask the real-world people who believed it to be so.
Than your next question should be how people think magic could revive people or heal wounds. Magic is mostly believing in something. Or why the moon is a thing in rituals. So a thing that is a symbol can be used by magic. And seasons are very symbolic. So it could make sense that you can use seasonal things as magic essences.
Why did it take until the fifth generation for the Pokemon games to include seasonal cycles?
Why do you do this? what is the purpose?
You made this thread just to torture your other personalities. Don't you remember?
In my games I would put seasonal magic as the highest form of druidic magic. Like, one epic spell per season type. It's quite easy to forget how terrible summer and winter can be, unless you experienced it yourself already. Spring would be a highly regenerative, live giving effect. Autumn would cause decay.
Asian druids (the weird guys) get a tsunami effect instead.
Veran was a Twili, wasn’t she? Just fricking LOOK at her!
I can sorta see that though canonically she's a dark fairy which is an interesting idea that hasn't really been explored very much that could have potential too.
Can you elaborate further?
Well, most if not all the fairy's in the Zelda games are generally good/benevolent beings that grant Link boons like magic powers, upgrades and so on where Veran is heavily implied to be an evil one (mostly due to one of her forms she shapeshifts into is fairy like) who uses curses to hinder which hasn't really been done since
Can you elaborate further?
there's untapped potential there having an evil fairy that fricks you over as an antagonist (most likely a minion of gannon or perhaps as their own entity) would shake up the formula if only a little.
Zelda as a Series is in dire need of more antagonists, zant would've been more interesting if he had been working alone for example, a good example of a corrupt villain causing curses would be like majora/skull kid, a lesser known example from another game that also doesn't take place in hyrule would be the antagonist of triforce heroes (which takes place in hytopia which is implied to be a neighboring country not unlike how the oracle games do) lady maud who curses Princess styla to be stuck in an ugly leotard
veran is pretty much a corrupt fairy who fricks with the timeline to cause chaos through the ages in order to revive gannon who is weakened by mystic powder exclusively due to her being a magic creature which does track.
something like that would be great for table top, a corrupted evil fey who curses people in various ways (from cursing the land majora style with poison swamps, endless snow, ocean storms, haunted lands of the undead unable to be given rest, "drop the fricking moon on the world") or something simple and more prankster-y (like turning you into a monster/different race, giving you bad luck, making you a kid so nobody takes you seriously, trapping you in stupid/bad clothes, memory altering rumble stilt skin/ mr myxyspitlyik style)
Can you elaborate further?
I'm not sure what else to cover honestly, I guess there's the anti-fairy's in lttp and Zelda's awakening that steal your magic energy that are also weak to mystic powder as well interestingly enough (those little skull things that bounce, they are also in minish cap as well I think) the only thing else I could think of is talking about the twili but there's really not much to say about them other then it's implied that it might be akin the to dark world or scared realm which is kinda obvious which doesn't have much to do with fairy's honestly.
uh... styla is an under rated Zelda girl who deserves more art? that's something.
Can you elaborate further?
not really, no go watch one of those Zelda deep dive videos on youtube or something.
Can you elaborate further?
can you?
