>see pic related, get interested
>want to see what it's about
>am told to just play it blind
>do so
>it's literally just a puzzle game with a time loop
But I guess if Reddit thought it was GOTY that's all that matters on Ganker, right?

I never finished it, sorry. I think I had to wait for two planets to get close for some portal to open or something and I just never did it.
I dropped it at the anglerfish planet thing.
I was told to not move at all, don't even touch the controller, and just float through on momentum alone. Tried that, several times, and got eaten every time.
you just have to move slow.
that only applies on the last warp point
I didn't get eaten once, git gud
>using guides
you deserved to fail
Don't go wandering around inside Dark Bramble. Use the scout and/or the signalscope to figure out where you need to go and head in a straight line.
In my objective opinion, Outer Wilds is a puzzle game. And it is overhyped, and poisoned by malignant fanbase that produced fake guides like said.
Holy hell, thank you. It gets old hearing about how deep this story was. Even better that it's based on a flawed understanding of the most basic theory of quantum mechanics
or the fact that the scale of the world is so small. like do the devs not know how big a fricking PLANET is supposed to be? baka
this is what you sound like
You're so smart for not seeing that the story exists to communicate a non-literal theme. Your failure to grasp sixth grade literacy is definitely made up for by your use of the word quantum
works on my machine
Played it on gamespass, dropped it after the third cycle, didn’t get fuzz about it either
Im sure some sperg will throw a tanrum over it in the next posts so I’m just gonna read the summary
Tried it but i was simply annoyed after the first 30 minutes. This game confirmed i need to avoid everything beloved by ledditors.
It genuinely saddens me when I'm reminded that there's people out there who didn't enjoy Outer Wilds
It's barely even a puzzle game. The solution to most puzzles is just "Read what the previous wall of text told you to do, and then do it".
It's more of a VN or narrative simulator with mild gameplay elements here or there. Most of the game is just reading some gay alien twitter feed.
>It's barely even a puzzle game
>It's more of a VN or narrative simulator with mild gameplay elements here or there
>tons of people consider a game that barely has gameplay to be GOTY
Amazing.
>People have shit taste
Yeah?
>barely has gameplay
traversal itself can get quite involved, having to adapt to different gravity, having to watch out for hazards, maneuvering your spaceship + jetpack controls by extension etc. basically you didn't play the game, what the frick are you doing here
I'm not the one saying the game barely has any gameplay, moron
Me stupid
>It's more of a VN or narrative simulator with mild gameplay elements here or there
You never played the game
Why do you idiots not know how to properly reply to someone?
it's not a puzzle game you're just moronic. the game genre you're looking for is "adventure." This game contains Z E R O puzzles.
I bought it for $10 and enjoyed it.
>This game contains Z E R O puzzles.
Name one puzzle that isn't explained by a literal wall next to it telling you exactly what to do.
Tower of Knowledge/Quantum Moon
You mean the one where each floor tells you exactly what to do in extremely simple terms?
>Head to Brittle Hollow and land on the Tower of Quantum Knowledge. It’s right along the equator, and has a quantum shard nearby. To get inside, you’ll have to wait for the tower to fall into the black hole and get transported to the White Hole Station.
Nowhere does it tell you how to get into the Tower in the first place. It's put entirely on the player. That, by definition, is a puzzle. As is figuring out that you have to take a picture of the moon to get it to stay put.
Holy frick, I guess I must be the smartest fricker alive then if that passes for a puzzle.
I mean, the entire premise of the game is a puzzle. It's you trying to figure out why the loop is happening and how to stop it and the supernova. But keep jacking yourself off and deflecting.
Nowhere does it tell me how to open my front door, but I sure as hell wouldn't call walking into my house a puzzle.
Does getting through your front door require you to wait for it to fall through the other side of a black hole?
I was gonna make a lame retort, but after thinking for a second I realized that the process of opening a locked door probably would be confusing as hell for some wilderness person who never encountered something like that before, so maybe I would classify it as a puzzle.
Concession status: accepted
> I was gonna make a lame retort, but
Oh don’t worry, you still did
>>game has progressively more opaque hints
>shit game innit
I don't know what you Black folk think a puzzle is but you're clearly uneducated. Please look at jigsaw and sudoku. Please look at minesweeper, portal, and tetris. Those are puzzle games. Games designed around puzzles as the core
Half-life and pokemon are games that FEATURE puzzles while not being puzzle games.
Outer Wilds is neither a puzzle game, NOR A GAME THAT FEATURES PUZZLES. It has z e r o puzzles in it.
>puz·zle
>noun
>a game, toy, or problem designed to test ingenuity or knowledge.
Idk man I think you might just be a pedantic moron who can't accept that not everyone likes your game
zelda and final fantasy are puzzle games by the standards you've just laid out. please do not be this moronic even when playing pretend.
this is an ADVENTURE game. it's like the action-adventure genre except without the action. if it were described as such, less people would get the wrong idea about what it holds.
>by the standards you've just laid out
You mean the DEFINITION of the word "puzzle?"
zelda, final fantasy, NBA2k, fifa, and quake all fit that exact description. Say these are puzzle games.
Zelda is a game (heavily) featuring puzzles. It's not a puzzle game as the gameplay isn't itself based on the puzzles. I see where you're coming from though
the bulk of the gameplay in zelda is puzzles (shrines/temples or whatever the frick they're called, I've only played 2 of them)
it is inherently a puzzle game. You realize you can be a puzzle and adventure game at the same time... d-don't you? Or are you that stupid
a puzzle game is a game where the gameplay IS a puzzle. it's an action-adventure game featuring puzzles but that does not make it a "puzzle game."
So, let me get this straight.
A game's premise can be you trying to figure out why a mysterious thing is happening using limited information, the ONLY gameplay is you exploring the game world and completing various tasks involving gaining and using information on various objects in the world in specific ways to get certain results (i.e. puzzles), all towards the end goal of solving the mystery of the plot, but because the game isn't called Sudoku 2023 or something similar it doesn't count as a puzzle game, in your opinion.
Did I miss anything?
The game-play is manipulating your character through a 3d world. Adventure is the genre. outerwilds has more in common with death stranding than with minesweeper or portal.
"I had to actively think" does not mean it was a puzzle. a test in class is not a puzzle. a fist fight is not a puzzle.
>outerwilds has more in common with death stranding than with minesweeper or portal.
Yeah and I guess if you really think about it, Ace Combat has a lot in common with GTA since you fly planes in both.
idk if you're pretending to be moronic or are actually moronic but either way here's your (You). OW is an adventure game through and through. You thinking tying your shoelaces is a puzzle does not change the facts of the world.
>I just compared Death Stranding to Outer Wilds
>but YOU'RE the moronic one
lol
zelda is absolutely a puzzle game lmao
>No pussy, no boobs, no secks
it's bad
The man with no taste.
The game is fantastic, super immersive, lots of amazing details and physics interactions I've never seen in other games. It's really fulfilling to play and experience and I constantly find myself in awe
But I'm not sure if I can say it's "fun", I kinda dread the thought of getting stuck on some obscure BS later down the line because I missed some obscure hint or happened to not read a random line closely enough.
you forgot about the part where the game designer for this game has a fricking monstertruck wiener and the worlds slappiest rocks, so no you actually did enjoy the game.
I wonder if people who hate this game also would hate Myst. Outer Wilds really makes me think of Myst.
This is extremely high praise.
>mobius releases this game to almost universal praise
>release a decent DLC a year after it goes on steam
>have done literally the square root of frickall since
that epic money must be yummy
You got filtered. You are actually too dumb for the game. That's fine though, most games these games are catered to you so skip it and move onto something else.
>get told to not look into game at all
>play it, find out you don't like it, and stop playing because you're not enjoying it
>morons say you got filtered because they can't handle someone not liking their game
Never change Ganker
the only real puzzle in this game is figuring out how to trigger the ending, everything else is just an appetizer
the DLC kind of stands on it's own and is better than the main game honestly. The DLC ending was more touching to me than the main ending even though the main ending has LE GRANDIOSE REDDIT THEMES
walked up some stairs behind a homosexual next to a campfire, noticed how shit the graphics were and uninstalled that trash lmao
you dont like it man thats fine
Why is every thread on this board bait don’t you gays get tired of this shit
it's an ADVENTURE game
shame the genre is so dead
It's not even a puzzle game you just stare at walls and hold down a button. Literal troony game
>get to ending of the main game
>it's exactly what I thought it was gonna be after reading endless text dumps, feel nothing except for enjoying the good music
>get to the ending of the DLC
>feel really bittersweet and fulfilled
games really need to stop trying to be so grand and reddit
movies too
Getting to the ending is a receipt that you understand the story. Everyone pretty much knows what the end is before they get there. The whole last hour is basically a beautiful, bitter sweet send off while you, the player, do what must be done.
I understood it completely and I'm not saying I hated it
it just didn't need to be spelled out as much as it was. That's why I like the DLC more, no fricking text dumps of nomai telling you EXACTLY what's happening
I think I had the opposite impression. In the base game they were writing messages back and forth to eachother which had the side effect of existing a million years later to be read by you. But it feels just a bit too contrived that these other guys liked... idk, home movies?.. so much that they recorded everything and kept it for themselves.
>ending is literally just about trannies
fricking kys whoever keeps shilling this slop
Plenty of devs shill their stuff here. Anybody who has been here at least 2 years know it happens frequently. I liked Outer Wilds it was worth the $20 or so I paid for it but it was no 10/10 like some people claim
The storyline to this game is literally just that Johnny Cash song about highway men.
>zoomers get filtered by adventure games and light reading
many such cases
can you guys help me with the puzzles in this game?
They're very difficult
The game is a walking simulator for people who thought they were too cool for walking simulators.
Now they've found one they enjoy, and it's not a walking simulator any more it's an "Adventure" or "Puzzle" game.
Guys. I think I just found the next GOTY
the replies in this thread are merely pretending, are they not?
well yeah but how many other puzzle games with a time loop have you played?
It’s not really a puzzle game as there’s nothing to solve. It’s a walking simulator/exploration game like Gone Home, but it’s about something a little more profound than dykes and told in a really creative and diagetic way. It’s pretty good as a proof of concept because all the progression depends entirely on your knowledge of the game.
>entire plot is about solving a mystery
>there's nothing to solve
Idk which anons here are genuinely against Outer Wilds and which ones are just trolling. Outer Wilds erased all jadedness I had about modern games and made me feel like a kid playing Majora's Mask again, except this time with an actually competent story targeted at adults. To all anons that gave up after a few hours, I understand, but I just want you to know how much magic that you're missing out on. There really is nothing I can compare Outer Wilds to, because frankly there's nothing else like it, and it's really hard to explain why even if I were to spoil everything in order to do so.
You still have the naive mind of child, that’s why it gave you that feeling. You are unhampered by the weight of wisdom
>7 new posts since I last looked at this thread
>3 new IPs
lol
This has to be the most philistine thread on Ganker right now.
It’s almost like…art is subjective
whoa
It's a walking sim. It's Gone Home in space. I try to warn everyone. I think this game was heavily marketed on Ganker for a while.
>It's Gone Home in space
You didn't play Gone Home.
I did.
Gone Home is a girl's diary in a PC format.
hmm, I guess you are a Black person.
I really would've liked this game if it weren't for the time loop. Just let me explore some shit in peace and get immersed, stop kicking me in the balls every 20 minutes and have me speedrun to where i was last.
>make a game about physics
>make said physics clunky and unreliable in game
It just feels so bad to play minute to minute
638483021
>adventure game with minimal combat. also known as walking sim
>adventure game with NO combat, also known as walking sim
hmmmm... hmmmmmm.........
why does every Outer Wilds thread devolve into a bot spamming about how reddit it is
this one is especially bad with some moron trying to claim it doesn't have puzzles in it or whatever the frick they are trying to argue
you fell for shilling, watch the replies for this post to see what I mean
>launch game
>it's actually a ton of walking around being confused because you know nothing and have tons of shit to explore
>every death i have to launch back out and go back to the places i was just at to continue figuring out where to go next
>exploring is slow
what the frick man
Level 5 summary of the thread
>I don't like your game, but I'll act smug to fish (You)s
>"You're a homosexual op"
>hehe everything according to plan
>Oh no, some morons are joining and doing the same. Stop, your stealing my (You)s you thiefs !
It was a really cool game but I didn't finish it. I just didn't want to drag my ass back to where I was exploring every loop.
