Seeing the high praise these games get on here, I was thinking about trying Trails in the Sky. I'm mostly looking for something emotional that I will feel in my soul, though that is a high ask because I rarely get emotional at things. I tend to prefer darker and mature themes in my stories but I've heard this series is very shonen like, not that I mind. Would you recommend the series or only certain entries?

Sky 1+2 is basically Naruto with the names and setting changed. All 3 Sky and the 2 Crossbell games are worth playing. A lot of the original devs left between the 1st and 2nd Crossbell game and its super apparent. Coldsteel is very bad and the majority of the playerbase dropped the games for good after Coldsteel 4.
>is basically Naruto
Don't care. Didn't ask.
>is basically Naruto
It's One Piece.
It is very shoneny but if you get through FC+SC you should enjoy the rest.
For sure. The story doesn't get "shounen like" until the Cold Steel arc. Trails in the Sky sounds like a good fit for what you're looking for.
>I tend to prefer darker and mature themes in my stories
Only 3rd and Kuro will fill that niche for you.
>I've heard this series is very shonen like
It is.
Summoning he JP-Kino poster
Sky + the Crossbell Arc are very very worth it.
And they both have some really emotional segments.
Go for it, anon. Try it out and see how it goes.
I played FC and finished it, but I didn't feel the desire to continue onto SC, I was very burnt out by the end.
I don't think it's worth doing the sidequests or talking to NPCs, it's all very dry.
Talking to the npcs and the worldbuilding is half the fun. If you don't like it then yeah, I don't see how you would enjoy this.
Not going to lie, I only want to play these games because I find Rean cool.
gay
Sky 1 and 2 takes a long time to build up and has a lot of slice of life, which I enjoy, but it absolutely nails the core emotional moments it builds up to. I saw all the "big moments" in 2 mostly coming from a mile away, so it's really a testament that they actually "got me" so damn hard. Great game.
Sky is similar to early/2003 FMA but without the human sacrifice stuff coming into the picture immediately, you get hints about war crimes and other political events but they don't really unfold until the second game, which also goes pretty far past them
I highly recommend the trails in the sky and crossbell games, extremely soulful. Plenty of darker themes and plot points by sc.
Fc is much more leisurely paced than you're probably used to and some people find it boring, but as long as you go into it understanding that it is a small scale story setting up future games and the world I think you'll love it, I definitely did.
Also Estelle is really great
>be playing SC of the Sky trilogy
>come up against the Ouroboros society
>aka the group that gladly murders thousands of people without even blinking
>but we have to forgive every one of them because they have le feelings too, and revenge is le bad
You'll get none of those things, but Trails will at least deliver a decidedly mediocre, meandering experience of nothing interesting happening in exchange.
trails is peak soul
what high praise? all i see people do is b***h about it nowadays
yeah you're right
it gets praised sometimes though, scroll up
Skip it. Play Nier Automata instead.
I did, was pretty good.
I usually see people say drop the series at X or Y.
>X or Y
>>>/vp/
>Would you recommend the series or only certain entries?
If you're going to play them (which you shouldn't), then you should use your brain and play them in release order.
is the BP stuff worth it or just do what I want for a 1st playthrough?
Get the JP patch and crank up turbo to x6 if you're on steam.
