BG1 is about 25h if you just stick to the main story and ignore the side content. BG2 is about 35-40h. BG3 about 60-70h.

Combat. Pillars has shit combat, you may disagree with that, but rtwp objectively is less popular.
Writing. Pillars has boring loredump words words words writing. Owlcat a little less, but also word-y. Larian's dialogue flows very well, it is easier to optimize such a thing where there is simply less of it. BG3 has the benefit of an established universe, so they can only explain the things they have to explain, and leave unimportant background as an exercise of the viewer.
Polish. Every dialogue is a soft-cutscene, you could say it has better screenplay. Every minor NPC you can speak to has it's own unique look, whereas all those other games have missing portrait galore. Every line (except yours! which is on purpose) is voice acted.
Content. BG3 has whole sections of missable side content. Animal speaking, dead speaking, playing as a paladin, playing as a drow. DoS2 has elf corpse eating and animal whisperer. I'm playing through RT right now and it doesn't have a single such a mechanic. Maybe psykers get something extra, haven't played as one

Planescape: Torment had infinitely better atmopshere, writing, and gameplay. I quit after the druid grove and I sure as frick didn't buy it so maybe I just didn't tolerate slow, poorly optimized, bad first writing impression games.

You get mindflayer larva (tadpole) stuck in your skull, which is supposed to kill you, destroy your soul and turn your husk into a new mindflayer in a few days, but it doesn't. Turns out it's a super magical tadpole using ancient Netherese magic that can't be removed by anyone ever. You try anyway for a while.
Along the way you discover that there are a bunch of other people with magical tadpoles and they are all high ranking members of a cult, so you go investigate the cult hoping to get rid of the thing. Also you find out that eating tadpoles gives you superpowers and a voice in your head tells you that would be a really good idea.
You track the cult to its lair, find the leaders are actually the Chosen of the evil gods of death and they are using Netherese magic to control a mindflayer elder brain (hence the tadpoles). You hunt them down, kill them, and try to gain control of and/or destroy the brain. Once the Chosen are dead you find out the brain is now a super brain because of all the extra magic and only a real mindflayer is strong enough to stop it. Turns out that voice from earlier is also a mindflayer (and kind of a dick) and you can either trust him or sacrifice someone else. Either way you have to stop the brain while it's attacking the city.
There's also a subplot about the Githyanki messiah and he is one of the options for turning someone into a mindflayer and also the reason you haven't been mind controlled but really it doesn't matter much unless you care about Laezels companion quest.
Don't forget that eating the tadpoles (or not eating them) doesn't matter whatsoever in the endings. Like 90% of other things.

I like the game, pretty much the only game that came out this year I had any interest in, but I do agree the numbers are suspicious. Everyone I know, friends or streamers, stopped playing after a month or two. The hardcore D&D fans beat the game and moved on, but all the casual fans quit at some point in Act 1. I don't know who could still be playing. I guess nips are playing now, but they don't seem that interested in it to make a huge difference.
It's doing the same numbers as live-service games like Apex and Genshin.
Look at the twitch viewership people are still interested in BG3 but since it's a single-player it won't be able to retain this level of interest unlike Apex or Genshin.
