Every single sonic game would be made better if they didn’t focus the gimmick on being speedy.
Now I’m NOT saying don’t let the player be speedy or have beat speed sections. But clearly one of the main complaints is that you either hold right to win or you go too fast and can’t react in time. So let the player go fast, but make the main focus platforming instead

Play spinball and 3d blast or the sms games. I recently played the sms remake on Vita and it was actually really good, not fast. Short sweet sonic handheld platformer, it's almost as good as super Mario land ... almost.
Ive played both. 3D blast suffers immensely from the isometric view(and a horrible final level), and spinball is complete shit

3D Sonic at least has potential to work since it can use a camera angle that lets you see far ahead.

Sonic CD is the only good game in that series though. Because you're actually required to interact with the level instead of running to the goal.
If sonic threw anything it would be dick at your face. With that being said, sonic 2 is great. Smb2 is great and I propose that sonic spinball is more akin to smb2... in a roundabout way.
Sonic 2 didn't look like an outdated rehash by time it released.

Mario 2 wasn’t changed because was too hard but because it was too similar to the original and they figured American gamers didn’t want to buy the same game again. Mario 2 US is harder than Doki Doki Panic because it lacks a save feature And Wart takes more hits to kill.
