Why does this piece of shit game have so much trouble identifying controllers? I tested 2 different ones. No input recognition. You‘d think a modern game would use some kind of universal protocol to handle that part.
I have to mess with the device manager and after deinstalling four different entries for game controllers, I can play, until I restart my pc and the entries reappear. But that is just fricked. The original Dark Souls and other modern games recognize my controller with no problems. It‘s the Vader3 Pro. It even has a mode to switch from dinput to xinput.

run it through steam either way, it will recognize the APIs and work, there's also DS4windows and an xbone controller should work natively anyway

Supporting controllers on PC is a total shitshow. Mainly because of the strict licensing on official libraries and trademarks.
Thats why having xbox gamepad is the best. 99% of games support Xinput by default so I dont have to go through moronic hoops just plug n play.

Then something is fricked on your end. I pirated Sekiro couple of times and it always was plug n play with both my old ass 360 pad and Series X pad.

All from soft games have this problem, usually restarting works for me, there was a fix that was all about pressing Ctrl alt del and turning off your controller, but I don't remember the exact steps.

Fugg, sorry anon, it did work when i tried it back in the day but maybe it only worked in an earlier windows build.
I tested it again. I can deinstall my controllers in the device manager, restart the pc and it works. That‘s so crazy. Seriously wtf.
There has to be an easy permanent solution for this.
That other one is the only one i know, I'd just write an ahk script at that point to do it automatically for me at that point, what a pain in the ass having to uninstall and reboot manually every time.

OP here. I figured out the problem. Turns out that the game was recognizing my USB buttplug as a controller. I just had to unplug it and the problem went away.

use your seeds against her
Just throw knives at her while she's flipping in the air. She falls down and you can whack at her. This + parry and she's dead. Also learn to jump on her head. I used up my one seed the first time so I didn't have that when I beat her. I actually preferred it that way cause I could kill the ghost guys to get more emblems to throw more knives.
I used an Xbox One controller and it works for me. Still a terrible game.
