There's nothing wrong with being subversive as a concept. Milton was subversive when he decided not to use rhymes in Paradise Loft. He even had to write an introduction defending himself because people at the time were outraged.
It's not a subversion, or looking at it from your perspective it would be a subversion of a subversion because you assume it to be children's book turned into rape hentai. Everything is always played straight and makes sense within the context of the story, what you're describing is a façade.
There's truth to this, the Black Souls series is some good ideas and a few great ones diluted by RPG Maker mediocrity. I hope there comes a time where Japanese developers don't feel the need to pad out their games with useless crap and instead focus on making them shorter but more refined

Not them, I wouldn't say the endings are frick you up and leave you thinking about them randomly kind of thing, but they're probably going to catch you off guard (in a bad way) and the game as a whole is definitely on the stranger side of things. It didn't capture my interest enough to play it more than once, but the game seems to expect you to NG+ it a few times like BS to get one of the better endings.

toro himself recommends 10-20k stats. stupidly high for no reason, so feel free to skip grinding with cheats if you're not up there already
the real deal is playing with equipment, try maxHP damage weapons like jabber scythe, 100% evasion builds and that guard attack sword. always wear accessories for at least 2-3 moves per turn

Requiem is a crutch for when you don't understand or know the mechanics of the fight. After beating the first boss of DLC 3 you'll get a chest slot armor that has an 80% auto-revive rate, though you still shouldn't need to use it once you understand how shit works. >i try anything and i still get oneshot?
Enemies have dispelling moves, %HP damage, and other shit up their sleeves. I hate to tell you, but it sounds like you aren't really trying to understand the combat system at all, it sounds more like you're just tossing shit at the wall with a very limited understanding of how it all works. Gearing and buffing are absolutely critical to BS2's combat system, and if you're gearing and/or buffing like dogshit, it'll reflect in how well you do in combat.

Enchant Farm. Most of the difficulty early on comes from having a lack of type coverage, once you have that down combat gets pretty repetitive.
Play the game on SL1 to get good
Doing DLC3 on SL1 requires massive autism but you don't have to do that, just go back to your original save when you get back to that point.

I assume you mean BS1? Because BS1 is a legitimately mediocre as frick game at best, the most interesting thing about it is the endings. BS2 is what made the series popular here, but you need the plot from BS1 for later parts of BS2 to make sense. If you mean BS2 though, I don't know what to tell you. Not sure how combat's taking too long for you in either game as well, you can break BS1 as soon as you beat the tutorial and BS2's not that much more difficult for most of its gametime.

Mabel has the Chaos Dungeon that she can briefly loredump you in after funnelling you through hundreds of one-way doors and losing TCO's sight that way. Node's literally only got the Library Dream, which is anything but secure.

The only reason why G doesn't stick is because of GG shenanigans, but the deaths in that route absolutely happen in that timeline. Souls being what they are, vessel creation/recreation (and as such revival) is also a thing, but there's nothing intrinsically keeping Prickett from an heroing that I can think of. Black personmen have long lives, but they can still be killed through violent means.

I'll be honest anon, prior to the reverse route I had that theory in my mind. Then the reverse route came around and seemed to blow it out of the water with the nightmare fights/deaths and the Alices coming in well afterwards. I'd assume most people didn't actively theorize about it because the reverse route just seemed to blow a huge hole in it with what we were given lorewise at the time. The supporting evidence of Mother Alice was what originally brought the idea to mind as I was first playing through the game, and a particularly observant person could probably spot move similarities between the E route bosses and the Nightmares, along with shit like Sister Alice's scene in the forest, but on the whole those are a lot more obscure and a lot less convincing than fricking seeing Bander and Jubjub get fricked by Jabber, and then murdering Jabber all in front of us.

NTA. Nearly every RPGMaker classic is mediocre when viewed from an objective angle. I like them, they're charming, but it's a fact that they're all filled with various flaws, BS1 included.
The reason why I'm treating BS1 differently is because I see BS2 as a part of the big leagues, so I hold it to a higher standard. Can't speak for the others, but I consider BS2 to be my favourite JRPG of all time.

The problem is that while BS1 served as a introduction of the themes that would become BS2, the second game butchered all build up with focusing on the red zoophile prostitute instead and forced her as the main canonical love interest . RDH post game confirms it even further.
Mary changed Red's story/game to what we see in RHW because she thought the ending where Red gets eaten by the wolf and dies was too dull. Also considering all of the fricking degenerate shit in both RHW and BS1's scenes, and Mary's own actions in the series as a whole, there's zero fricking chance that she's anything but a complete deviant, inflicting her fetishes on those that can't really do much to resist.

Yeah. Mary wanted Red kick the bucket heroically instead of getting vored by the wolf, so Mary presumably created her with that in mind and probably hit her with Red 20 at the same time to round it off. She got what she wanted, in a way I suppose.
Red was the protagonist of the first game, she was always going to have greater focus. I'd still say Alice is a stronger billing for main love interest, red being more of a deuteragonist.
I know that, I have played them in chronological order so it's very clear to me that she is a important part of the whole franchise. I would not mind if she stayed a important character in BS2 but she is a forced canonical love interest for Grimm which felt very unnatural. Their relationship could have been handled way better if they would support each other and just worked together without the forced romance. Both of them suffered a similar fate so them becoming tight bros would fit the narrative very well. Play however you want on your first playthrough and only go for 100% completion on NG+.

Nothing is a perfect filter or barrier for keeping undesirables out. I've said it time and again. You get barriers to entry, which help repel the less interested but that's about it. BS's porn toggle also works wonders in lowering the threshold to entry, even with its subject matter being plastered all over, you'd be amazed at the mental gymnastics people can come up with to justify or ignore its presence.
This is random, but one of the best moments in this game that I had was when I randomly stumbled upon that one memorable area which triggered Grimm's and author souls trauma, causing them to crazily sperg out while blaming each other while the sounds of maddening gears play in the background. Really defined the phrase "it can only get worse from here".

Not them, I wouldn't say the endings are frick you up and leave you thinking about them randomly kind of thing, but they're probably going to catch you off guard (in a bad way) and the game as a whole is definitely on the stranger side of things. It didn't capture my interest enough to play it more than once, but the game seems to expect you to NG+ it a few times like BS to get one of the better endings.

the real deal is playing with equipment, try maxHP damage weapons like jabber scythe, 100% evasion builds and that guard attack sword. always wear accessories for at least 2-3 moves per turn

Guarding's decent, though by this point you shouldn't usually need to guard. If you are, make sure you're using Soul Shield alongside it, and if you're not then that's your own fricking fault.

If you mean the skill, don't. If you mean the stat, still don't. DLC 3 hands you a +100% Evasion chest slot item about midway through and it's still pretty shit at this point.

Requiem is a crutch for when you don't understand or know the mechanics of the fight. After beating the first boss of DLC 3 you'll get a chest slot armor that has an 80% auto-revive rate, though you still shouldn't need to use it once you understand how shit works.

Enemies have dispelling moves, %HP damage, and other shit up their sleeves. I hate to tell you, but it sounds like you aren't really trying to understand the combat system at all, it sounds more like you're just tossing shit at the wall with a very limited understanding of how it all works. Gearing and buffing are absolutely critical to BS2's combat system, and if you're gearing and/or buffing like dogshit, it'll reflect in how well you do in combat.
Enchant Farm. Most of the difficulty early on comes from having a lack of type coverage, once you have that down combat gets pretty repetitive.

Doing DLC3 on SL1 requires massive autism but you don't have to do that, just go back to your original save when you get back to that point.

Gun break is pretty much strictly inferior to Hans in DLC 3, anon. You can still use it to cheese a fight, especially at low difficulties, but it's objectively slower and unnecessary.

I assume you mean BS1? Because BS1 is a legitimately mediocre as frick game at best, the most interesting thing about it is the endings. BS2 is what made the series popular here, but you need the plot from BS1 for later parts of BS2 to make sense. If you mean BS2 though, I don't know what to tell you. Not sure how combat's taking too long for you in either game as well, you can break BS1 as soon as you beat the tutorial and BS2's not that much more difficult for most of its gametime.

The only reason why G doesn't stick is because of GG shenanigans, but the deaths in that route absolutely happen in that timeline. Souls being what they are, vessel creation/recreation (and as such revival) is also a thing, but there's nothing intrinsically keeping Prickett from an heroing that I can think of. Black personmen have long lives, but they can still be killed through violent means.

I'll be honest anon, prior to the reverse route I had that theory in my mind. Then the reverse route came around and seemed to blow it out of the water with the nightmare fights/deaths and the Alices coming in well afterwards. I'd assume most people didn't actively theorize about it because the reverse route just seemed to blow a huge hole in it with what we were given lorewise at the time. The supporting evidence of Mother Alice was what originally brought the idea to mind as I was first playing through the game, and a particularly observant person could probably spot move similarities between the E route bosses and the Nightmares, along with shit like Sister Alice's scene in the forest, but on the whole those are a lot more obscure and a lot less convincing than fricking seeing Bander and Jubjub get fricked by Jabber, and then murdering Jabber all in front of us.

It's more that she wants to stay with you, rather than keeping you in the garden. If she only wanted to keep you in Wonderland, it'd have been stupidly fricking simple for her to blow Prickett and Mabel's plan up by talking to TCO about it, and the merge ending would reflect this too. Instead she makes a consistent effort to help out the plan when she can, and using Cheshire as a gofer when she's unable to show in person.

It's not that she had no attachment to it, it's that she valued Grimm and his safety more than it or even her own rightful ownership over GG, which she also abandoned at some point prior to Queensland's construction.

No actually, it's not, or at least not as effectively watched. Prickett's own pieces are guarding the place like Fort Knox, and there's none of TCO's eyes around the area that I can remember, which are the primary thing TCO uses to watch. TCO seems to spend most of their effort trying to keep an eye on Prickett, but even then she outright tells us that she slipped surveillance for the date. Short of TCO making a direct appearance in Queensland a la the maze, it's a relatively secure location compared to most areas in the game. Prickett still has to be careful, but she can afford to be a lot more fricking direct in what she says than Mabel most of the time, and especially Node.

You are aware that she saved Red at some point prior to the start of BS2, and that she has Cheshire acting as her proxy to help you because TCO's watching her like a hawk, right anon? It's not that she doesn't do anything to help you until her hand is forced, it's that she's stuck doing nothing for most of the game because she risks blowing the entire operation if she missteps. Prickett at least has Queensland, which is guarded to hell and back and she knows how to slip TCO's watch well enough to go on dates with you. Mabel has the Chaos Dungeon that she can briefly loredump you in after funnelling you through hundreds of one-way doors and losing TCO's sight that way. I know that, I have played them in chronological order so it's very clear to me that she is a important part of the whole franchise. I would not mind if she stayed a important character in BS2 but she is a forced canonical love interest for Grimm which felt very unnatural. Their relationship could have been handled way better if they would support each other and just worked together without the forced romance. Nothing is a perfect filter or barrier for keeping undesirables out. I've said it time and again. You get barriers to entry, which help repel the less interested but that's about it. BS's porn toggle also works wonders in lowering the threshold to entry, even with its subject matter being plastered all over, you'd be amazed at the mental gymnastics people can come up with to justify or ignore its presence.

She's there in Wonderland to hunt the mastermind and take their head, which is why she left in her personal ending to begin with. She has no knowledge of C (or the cycles in general, from what it seems), and in fact explicitly denies seeing Grimm ever use the hotel, and she has no apparent knowledge of the events of D either.

Red doesn't seem to share a proper connection to the Power to Change, and when Mary gathers all of the heroines up in BS1 D Red isn't there for a reason. In fact, Red completely disappears in D's timeline post-Shub, though she's summonable for the fight with Shub beforehand. Grimm's soul bond with the Power to Change was responsible for drawing him into another timeline and back into the garden in G, while the same consistently doesn't seem to happen for Red in either BS1 or BS2. Mary calling Red a failure and Red's fricked up book in BS1 would also seem to indicate that Mary botched some aspect of Red's creation.

Not really? The endings should all take place in different timelines, at least with what's presented to us in BS2 about all that shit in DLC 3. They all seem to merge together post-Shub in D (hence Red's absence, other post-D content), but that's about it.
