It has a ton of potential but is handled by intensely lazy and untalented developers. There's a reason the only good Pokemon games are completely safe and have daddy Nintendo helping out.
This is the real reason. Gamefreak got a golden ticket nearly 30 years ago. Pokemon blew the frick up and never really lost its fame. In less than a 3rd of the time of Disney it became the highest growing franchise on planet Earth.
And what the frick did it do with it? The games within the franchise are embarrassingly low effort. Because they don't have anything to prove anymore. People are going to buy it regardless of quality. There are many more games with the genre that try harder yet fail because no one can keep up with its marketing. The fate of Palworld is still up in the air. Maybe it'll be a long standing franchise. Maybe it'll be a one hit wonder. But pokemon having some competition is the most necessary thing right now.

Pokemon would be easy to ignore as just another bad JRPG franchise but unfortunately the Pokemon anime sold a fantasy that everyone fell in love with, and the games themselves were never able to deliver on it. Until Palworld
