ports have existed since the dawn of video games and have generally been mediocre. of course there are some examples of improved ports but they're rare. why can't you just accept that different platforms are chosen by devs for various reasons? pc will always be better for rts, fps, simulators, and wrpgs. consoles will always be better for platformers, sports, and jrpgs. it's just the nature of the thing. sure you can hook up k&m to consoles or gamepads to pc but devs don't generally rely on additional peripherals for good reason, it's seen as a major turnoff by casual players. the choice of platform has more to do with the genres of games you like than with the actual platform itself just like the choice of car has more to do with the roads you'll be driving on and less to do with the car itself. only a moron takes a sports car down rural dirt roads or an off-road monster pickup through cities.
Most of these ports will probably have enhanced graphical settings on PC, which is all I care about, and some mod capability. I don't care about console streamlining

PC gaming used to be incredible. I grew up with consoles, so on the rare occasion I got to experience old school PC games I was mindblown. Playing Morrowind on the OG (and best) Xbox was a fricking revelation. Modern PC gaming is a travesty compared to what we had back then.

Microsoft figured this out by also offering the Series S this generation for just $300. That's what Nintendo is STILL charging for the basic full Switch package, and more importantly, $100 less than the cheapest PS5. The gap between Xbox Series and PS5 has been shrinking massively; last year the ratio for PS5 vs. Series was 2 to 1, but now it's already only about 4:3 (or 2 to 1.5).

that's not true. games have to be programmed with loaders that pull information (mostly function pointers) from the gpu firmware dynamically and gpu manufacturers don't give a shit about making it easy. from one nvidia card to another there is a world of difference in the location of pointers in firmware and what the functions actually do when called. it's an absolute clusterfrick that requires a frickhuge mountain of leaky abstraction layers to work. bugs abound and developers can't realistically do anything but work around it all with flimsy shims and ad hoc dispatchers. code written for consoles is much cleaner and less buggy simply because they can target one specific piece of hardware. developing for consoles is much cheaper and faster than developing for pc because you cut out a ton of qa cycles which are one of the longest parts of development.

And just a couple of posts up someone answered you. It's called steam big picture mode and is 100% controller compatible. You can add emulators and even pirated games to your local steam library too (no you don't get banned, I've had pirated games in my steam library since around 2014 and never even got a warning).
The series x is also a fine option if you prefer that, but PC is still better overall and more future proof as a platform. You're at microsoft's mercy, and they can decide that Retroarch or all emulators are banned any time they want. Hell, they can decide at any point that your games no longer belong to you. The xbox needs to phone home at least once per startup for any games to boot, we saw that in those days when nobody could access any of their games on xbox due to server issues.

That's not what you said before. Regardless, if you want to do that, you can just use a remapping program. I personally use DS4windows and go into "mouse mode" for pad and the joysticks and having some important shortcut keys, like scrolling, and CTRL or space (for starting and stopping videos) on the face buttons and forward and backward, and volume up and down on the d-pad. R1 and L1 are mouse puttons, L2 R2 are too easy to accidentally hit when I rest the controller and pick it up, so they're unbound. PS button is windows button. it works fine for internet browsing as long as I don't need to type anything and even then, I can just use the onscreen keyboard built into windows, which won't be slower than what consoles deal with.
