Seriously...what purpose do they serve? They're too cheap and broke to spend money like Microsoft to buy up real studios and Nintendo can always rely on their successful legacy ips. They should just frick off and go full third party since they're already half way there with their PC initiative.

Man I'd love to see PlayStation go third-party. Let Nintendo buy up Ape Escape and the three platformer IPs, give Socom and Resistance to MS, and the rest can be split up among third-parties. I imagine Ubisoft would snatch up GoW while TLoU and Uncharted would go to EA

To recoup their costs, obviously. PlayStation is the only reason Sony makes a net profit at all, they'd start going into the red every year after exiting the hardware industry and everyone else would snatch up their IPs for cheap just for Sony to survive for as long as it can

If you tell me that you don't like single one of the games published on their consoles, like tendies have done a million times... Well, I just can't take you seriously. Why should I waste my time with someone that doesnt' even like video games?

What's even more pathetic is that they can't even buy full exclusivity with third parties lmao...this six months to a year console exclusive stuff is pure desperation. They couldnt even get kojima to agree to have death stranding being a full ps exclusive and sony OWNS the fricking IP. How do you get cucked this badly?

  6. 9 months ago

Sony used to be awesome. Buying one of their console meant you could buy great games of all the popular genres. Lots of companies with their own styles, lots of different aesthetics, lots of different characters... You didn't have to buy games that didn't appeal to you because of a lack of better options, there was just so much to choose from.
And Sony fans used to love video games. Unlike tendies, who around the times of the N64 started claiming that everything was trash except for Nintendo games, sonyers would enjoy games made by Square, Namco, Naughty Dog, EA, Konami, Capcom, Atlus, Enix, SCE, Pygnosis...
It's true that Sony has changed. They're now abusing Japanese companies. I couldn't care less about most of their first party games. Sonyers still haven't reached the levels of transparent hypocrisy of tendies, but they have adopted some of their vices, like the special treatment they give to first party games. Their tastes have also 'changed' and they now pretend to love genres and styles that weren't that popular during PSX times. That's because they're just adapting to the new environment, they don't have defined preferences, they would never admit that maybe Sony is not the company that used to give them so much fun... Still, compared to tendies, sonyers are more capable of caring about games made by others brands.
Sony's presence has been positive for the industry. Nintendo treated third parties like trash, if I had to spend years and years with nothing but Nintendo games and some second party developments I would have moved to PC a long time ago. Microsoft also brought most of the abusive practices we're suffering these days.

THE platform for narratively driven games, period.
    >But anon, their games will end up on PC eventually.
Yes, although not all of them, because we can't know that for sure, and even then you would have to wait a year or two at most before you will be able to play the game.
    >But what if..
Even if you want to imagine a scenario where every PS game is available on PC on the day of the release, PS technically is a better deal financially if you only care about stable gaming experience as consoles do get priority in terms of optimization most of the time, and you have the option to own your games with physical discs.
    >But one anon told me that you don't own anything.
Of course he would say that, he himself spent too much money on "his" rented Steam library, he has no choice, but to double down on his current state, and it's his job
to make sure that he doesn't feel about it, so he has to go out and convince everyone that you don't own anything, because he clearly doesn't. I hope that clears some of your worries, OP.
    >Not really, someone told me that PS5 has no games, how do you respond to that?
Go to PS store, anon, and there you go, thousands of games for you to enjoy.
    >But these are 3rd party titles.
Buying a console purely for exclusive games is a dangerous choice, because you can never be sure if you will enjoy those games in the first place, your best bet would be waiting for the new GOW, GOT, TLOU, Uncharted, GT, Spider-Man and others to come out, but that might take a long time.

      >Anon, you forgot that they don't have backwards compatibility like Xbox does.
True, they don't, and this is a big missed opportunity, that was mostly influenced by their new PS Plus service in order to give you access to older titles via subscription, however, if you do have a PC near you, I would suggest using emulation, DuckStation, PCXS2, RPCS3 have far better performance than they used to, you can upscale your games and even have save states, but if you don't have a PC that is strong enough to handle emulation, then maybe you should buy an Xbox if you want to take advantage of backwards compatibility, but at this point I would advise against that, because every Xbox exclusive game is now becoming available on PC on the launch day, so you might as well build a PC at this point, plus you get the perks of being able to emulate nearly every console in existence, even the PS4 emulation is ramping up now, although it still in it's early stages.

        >But anon, I want to play Starfield, and I want to have a PlayStation, what should I do?
Well, Timmy, you don't know for sure if you will enjoy Starfield, so to save you money, you can try it via xCloud when the game comes out for $1, I think that you will get 14 days of trial, and there you will be able to decide whether you like the game or not, if you do, then consider completing it while your subscription lasts. PlayStation has every major 3rd party title and their exclusive games, Xbox has Game Pass and their exclusive titles available on the service on the release day.

I don't see a reason for why that might be a thing, their hardware, whatever your opinion on it, is profitable since 2021, unless that changes I don't see the point of becoming the next SEGA, now, Xbox on the other hand.. could just evolve into the Xbox Game Pass service and ditch the hardware altogether, and I guess in a way execute their vision of "Play wherever you want" by charging you $15 or however much it costs now.

I could see them rebranding Xbox to something else.

Microsoft is autistic enough to melt down billions on the xbox division and that is the funniest shit

doesn't change the fact that they can dump as much money into xbox as they want

You just want all games to be sold on steam, to be launched through steam, to login in games through a steam account

unfathomably based, though I myself use Transmission as my Bittorrent client

I used it like two times in my life, it's fine and simple, but for some reason not a single download would initiate properly, so I would just go back.

i think different clients have different default configs, I tried to move away from Transmission, but I haven’t found one (acceptable for me) that works as good as transmission for me, so yeah I guess I’ll keep using it

Not everyone wants a PC. I still pick my PS5 over my 3x the price pc I built for certain games.

Didn't expect to find a comment that summarizes my situation as well. Good to know I am not the only one who went this route.

PS1 and PS2 are among the greatest consoles of all times and one of the reasons they obtained so much third party support was because, unlike Nintendo, they didn't mistreat and abuse them.
And they also made games like Gran Turismo, Fumito Ueda games, Alundra, Ape Escape, Gravity Rush, Medievil...
I don't give a shit about most of the games they make these days and I don't like the way they treat Japanese developers, but that doesn't mean forgetting all the positive things they brought in the past.
