Speaking of which, what does the Exhaustion state even do? People are just spamming meter until it runs out and they go into Exhaustion but it looks like they can keep attacking anyway and it refills after like a second so what's the point?

Sounds reasonable but it recovers so fricking fast it looks like a non-issue.
time in fighting games is measured in frames, not seconds. you don't want to be in exhaustion, but can be worth it for some extra damage. it's a balance.
My point is that from watching people play, they're going into Exhaustion mid-combo or during pressure but then come out of it while still keeping their combo/pressure going. So if it's supposed to be a punishment for going in too hard or a risk you're supposed to take by blowing it all, it doesn't look like it limits your actions at all.
exhaustion is a lot longer if you enter it using an easy input special so it might just be a mechanic that exists to keep combos at a set length and punish people using baby controls more then a real penalty
Doing an easy input into exhaustion simply adds in the delay before you start to gain back magic to the times in
It lasts whatever the set amount of time it is + the negative regen time of the magic attack that out you in that state.
So say you have 10mp left and you use an 80mp move. You now have to wait for the normal exhaust timer to run out and then wait for the -70mp to regen before you hit 0 and then start to properly regenerate
it becomes a 3-button fighter, you lose your M button

Yeah I was really into the PVP of DFO a long time ago, and eighting and arcsys have made some of my favorite fighting games so that surprise announcement on christmas blew my fricking mind. the game continues to impress me with stuff like conversion and the mp/awakening mechanics so I'm still interested in it outside of just the maxd00d base level appeal about the concept itself
I can't believe they're back. Outside of graphics and online this game feels like something that would drop on PS2/GCN in 2007 that would get 30-man tournaments at Combo Breaker and CEO a decade later. But it's coming out now with rollback and a massive pot bonus for its tour.

Different anon but I really love this game mechanically and I know literally nothing about DFO other than memes from these threads about Duel. This is literally my Function Fighter, a game that could be reskinned into anything else and I would probably still play it if all the gameplay aspects were kept the same.
It DOES help that the game is pretty though. It's a more refined version of how Xrd looked instead of the different directions DVFZ, GBVS, & GGST went.

I feel like this is a pretty understated part of this games appeal, the characters being all archetypes without a proper name, the clusterfrick setting, the wildly different genres the soundtrack can fit, it's a game that hits a very large strike zone in it's aesthetic and if there's anything that's going to save this game from being a dead as frick discord fighter this time next week it'll be this
It stands out mechanically by being a more grounded game without air blocking and a guard gauge but having insane effective ranges for much of the cast, strong pressure, meter management, and an extremely versatile canceling mechanic in Conversion. Every character is an extremely powerful version of whatever their playstyle is, even Grappler who is likely Bottom 1 can put you in the blender if he gets close enough once. Character power is high, mechanics are simple, combo system is free-form but has hitstun and damage scaling that promotes either short and sweet confirms or huge high-investment punish combos.
It's less like any other anime fighter and more like the wild yet oddly simple to control licensed 8ing fighting games that popped up in 6th gen, which is because this is the first proper fighting game 8ing had made that wasn't a collaboration with Capcom since 6th gen.

There has been on going rumor in China that this game was actually in development hell for years.
Arcsys originally had the plan to take class advancements mechanics seriously. So you pick a base class and choose additional advancement, kinda like MK10 variations or moon styles from MBAACC, but they were going to dial everything up to 10 where each advancement feels like a totally different character.
One can see designing and balancing out characters around this mechanic would be hard so Arcsys eventually had to admit what they were going for didn't really fit fighting games. Rumor has it they were going for 4 advancements for each class, so the amount of work they were going for just didn't seem feasible.
After failing this first iteration of the game, which is presumed to be sometime in 2017, they decided to scale the game down.
They re-negotiated with Nexon and decided the game would launch in 2019 and that the game would feature Ghostblade and Enchantress as the main characters because DFO was going to introduce those two in 2019 as well.
But the initial flame of developing the game kinda died out within Arcsys, and they also had to develop DBFZ(2018), GBVS(2020), and GGstrive. So there was no way they could meet that 2019 deadline.
So in the end, Nexon, who grew tired of waiting suggested they hire a competent 3rd party to finish up the game. 8ings was brought up to finish up the game, mostly reusing art assets made by Arcsys for the first two iterations of the game, but the gameplay itself was designed by 8ings.
This explains why the graphics look closer to DBFZ than GGstrive, why Launcher is wearing a basic f.gunner costume, and why they chose to add ghostblade and enchantress rather than other legacy classes that people are more familiar with.
Does that mean no DLC because Arcys is no longer invested in the game?

If you've heard of Maplestory, know that DNF is about 5 times bigger and higher grossing according to Nexon's own numbers. It's just that DFO had a really, really shitty server in the west for it's early life, one that eventually died and was later resurrected to be more like the Korean game.
Personally, I'm not interested in the game. But I hope you guys enjoy it, and that you get hooked into the genre.

Can't move while using it + getting hit expends your guard bar a lot faster. Basically any character with multihit heavies/specials will rape your ass if you rely on the button.

Yeah was playing some online matches with a friend (about 50 ping, as was expected) but the match stuttered a lot. We checked our framerate and it was dropping to like 40 randomly. Was pretty unfun. The tutorial stuff ran just fine, so was just online
My frames are fine but its freezing online
Updated drivers, I'm on ethernet, validated, turned down graphics, checked anti-virus, etc and nothing worked. Freezing everytime I go into a loading screen online (even the 'to training' option while waiting for ranked). I'd restart but I'll just check in the morning, its fricked for me right now.
I noticed random lag spikes in the player match lobby menu too, so what the frick is going on with the networking.
Played like 25 matches online and aside from one disconnect at the start it was flawless for me.

What are you specifically having trouble with? If you're having trouble with the exuection itself, keep at it because your execution is shit and challenging yourself will only help in the long run. If you're having trouble figuring out how to actually do it, watch the demo and figure out what it's doing differently (or just ask if you can't figure it out).

Do 6B and 3B instead of neutral to move the puppet forward. Probably gonna have to get used to having "unclean" directional inputs in general for her combos. The opponent also has to be low enough for the 2B to hit, but high enough for the flame, but the range is pretty lenient so you're probably used to it already.

The timing isn't super tight but you gotta do 214D>5B>2B (dunno the notation yet, hopefully D is right) really fast for the 2B to connect. Just something else you'll have to burn into muscle memory, doing inputs that fast can be pretty unintuitive so you might have to force yourself at first, but it seems really important for her combos.
And like the other dude said, breaks are extremely important when practicing. Going straight grind monkey mode very often isn't the answer.

No way does Crusader have the ability to deal with some of the shit in this game over it gets labbed out. It's like most of his bad matchups were characters not in Beta 1. Anybody with projectiles that can reach from outside 5S range, as well as Ghostblade, Swift Master & Dragon Knight, can beat him without much issue. He also struggles in the corner without GC because his DP is fake as frick.

Rolls have iframes and your character might have some projectile/hit immune special as well. That and vary your approach

My favorite fighting game of all time was GBVS, but it is dead as frick and the netcode is trash. This game plays like a more aggressive GBVS, I can find matches in seconds, and the rollback netcode makes sure it'll survive (at least a lil longer). I'm glad I bought it full price day one, it's a pleasure you poorgays won't be able to experience.
