Just started Shadowrun with friends and we couldn't believe they tried to fit that garbage into a cyberpunk game. Completely banned it at character creation, and it's been fantastic.

It's never been to my taste, but Shadowrun always had more interesting mechanics than Cyberpunk.

To be fair, he genuinely might not be baiting. Shadowrun is a much better system than Cyberpunk, and it still works just fine even if you take out the magic.

GURPS cyberpunk is almost embarrassingly bad and has been coasting off of the Secret Service having an oopsie for like thirty years now.
I prefered Kromosome, the AMAZING Engine Biopunk game from the 90's. Beautifully creative, but boy, she needed some modifications to get into a functional state. RAW, there was no reason given you couldn't strap a silencer onto a rocket launcher.

I never liked how they made cybernetics and magic so opposed to each other. Has anyone come across a decent fix for that, either in terms of lore or mechanics?
To be fair, it’s more a balance thing than anything else. I do think it would be cool to play a Magic Cyborg but I get why you can’t.
There is already a way, paying more. Mages can get better ware and mundanes can buy alchemical bullcrap and quickened spells, anyone can adopt a dual natured critter too. The more out there options are cybermancy and spirit pacts, there probably exist artifacts that can awaken you too.
