Shadows of the Damned Remaster

Anyone want to talk about this? I'm convinced the footage they showed at the Grasshopper Direct is the actual remaster. Don't really want to nitpick the resolution and framerate and all, but I took a few quick grabs to compare with from RPCS3 and noticed a few differences in regards to lighting and models

Here's a capture from the opening scene in the emulator

Here's the same one in the Grasshopper Direct. You see that Flemming's hand now casts a shadows on Paula's shoulder and the door in the background has more light

Again, same scene but from the Grasshopper Direct. This time the fan in the room is actually present, which I guess is where the new light source is coming from for the above scene

Kek would be funny if they added random sources of light everywhere to explain why it's brighter as HD remasters tend to be

I dont remember the original looking THAT blurry. That looks like Wii resolution, not Ps3/Xbox360

These are just quick grabs from YouTube to show off the lighting changes, not the resolutions

All of the gameplay looks brighter in that opening scene, but the cinematics all look like they're going to be darker. Here's the opening bike ride in the emulator

Here's the same in the Remaster version. Given Engine Software's ports of killer7 and No More Heroes 1 and 2, I think we can expect a very straightforward port for better or worse. We might get some new features like the New Game+ mode with weapons that carry over (as mentioned in TSA) similar to how NMH1 got the menu option to retry jobs, but that's about it

This is more how a remaster should be done. Clean up the image quality of the original game without making drastic changes

      also, upping the framerate
sotd on PS3 was nowhere near as smooth as the little that was shown off

    Yeah, I'll talk about it.

Shadows of the Damned is a fun game. Plays fine, looks cool, kinda funny, kinda cringe. No, it's not a great game, and I'm well aware it isn't what Suda wanted to make. Very cool callback to this in Travis Strikes Again. I like Shadows of the Damned very much.

So, as you might imagine, it saddens me that it is getting to remaster treatment. Because remasters are always shit.

What a terrible game and what a shitty idea. I still regret buying that on launch. I even went out and bought drugs and it still sucked.

I enjoyed the original game a lot, always thought it was a 9/10 game with a senseless community bashing.
Though I wonder how will they censor the sex jokes and the sex in general, I don't think this game is in line with the political climate that troons built around video games.

Troons love sex shit. They just don't like attractive natal women. They'll probably cover up Paula on that one stage

Yeah I'm kind of surprised this was greenlit with how crude the humor is. I hope it doesn't get neutered.

I like that it looks so faithful. My favourite PS3 game. I suppose there won't be any work in the clipping with environment and stuff?

Doubtful. Everything looked like the same animations and all

No worries, even if it was exactly 1:1 without any new features and on Steam, I am happy.

I think Steam and Switch are locks. Grasshopper is liking those comments.

is it atleast better than KiD?

Nah. KiD is the best game Grasshopper made in the span between NMH2 and TSA.

Depends on preference as they aren't really similar games at all.

SotD is probably more polished overall. I definitely liked it more. It has a simpler and more direct story and Garcia is far more likable than Mondo.

I thought suda hated this game because EA controlled to much of the development

It's true but remasters are easy money. There's a Lollipop Chainsaw remake/remaster in the works as well but the less said about that, the better.
Honestly the final product we got sounds a lot better than his original vision. EA was probably right for once.

        >but the less said about that, the better
What's wrong with it exactly? Have they even shown anything off yet? I just remember it got announced for this year, but I can't find any videos of it

          >What's wrong with it exactly?
Its just that Suda and James Gunn are not involved at all in the new version, so people start overreacting even without seeing nothing yet

            Anonymous

Yeah, I could see how that could be a problem if they change a lot, but if they aren't willing to shell out for the soundtrack, I don't expect them to shell out for new content

They didn't bother to get the rights for even a single track in a game that is almost entirely licensed music. They don't care.

There are rumors that it'll be censored in one way or another, that Zed may be redubbed and the few original tracks of the game are being replaced because the MSI lead singer got Me Too'd and is still tied up in court. I can't say these are credible, none of it has been shown yet but the possibility exists and they clearly don't care for upkeeping the integrity of the original game.

The Anime collab costumes are likely gone as well since they don't seem to be renewing anything.

I don't think having Suda on board would have helped that. He recast Henry for NMH3 after Flynn got Me Too'd

      Anonymous

I hope they do KiD next or the reboot talked about

He did, but I think he's made peace with it. That and he wants to build up Grasshopper's own IP and they only own TSC, SotD, KiD Diabolical Pitch and Frog Minutes completely. I suspect this is a straightforward port to reintroduce players to and then he'll revisit the characters and all in a game more fitting to what he wanted to do

are they going to fix the fact that it feels like 40% of the game feels missing and the rest haphazardly stitched together

I appreciate the effort you're making by comparing the trailer and the rpcs3 one. But I can already play this perfectly on an emulator, there's no point buying this remaster given how much of a shitshow every single port of a grasshopper has been. No more heroes 3 is still broken to this day, btw

      Anonymous

I don't disagree, I think the visual changes will be very small. At this point, I'm only interested in seeing what kind of features get added. I think it's going to just be the New Game+ and Suda will have it run well on the Switch and every other version just gets thrown out there (if Xbox even gets port). I don't think GhM is really working on it, rather they're just supervising Engine Software

Only on PC. NMH1 and 2 on Switch are pretty damn good HD Ports

Can someone explain to me what's wrong with them? I know 3 was handled by either Muteki or Bee Tribe and the Steam release was a straight Switch port while the Windows Game Store release was supposed to be like the PS5/XS version and the Steam listing got replaced with that, but it's (and the PS5/XS versions) still have fricked up sound and lighting?

Also, how bad are 1/2? I know Engine Software did those and 2 is supposed to be really bad

nmh1 and 2 crash often even on high end rigs, you cannot 100% nmh1 because certain inputs are broken, the minigames in 2 run too fast because of the framerate update and some visual effects are missing

          Anonymous

          >crashing
I can forgive most superficial things, but that always annoys the frick out of me

The Bioshock ports didn't have gyro, but that code base was UE2.5 and the ports were handled by another company
