In general Phoenix had his story arc finished and while I was happy with him in 4-6, we didn't need him to return period. It's just capcom doing the "we can't get rid of the main guy or our games won't sell" thing that we see in their other IP's.

In general he had the ball dropped on him from day 1 and nothing has really ever helped him recover from what he should've been, he feels very much like an Alex or an Abel rather than a Luke if we use Street Fighter comparisons since these are both capcom IP's. Alternatively Apollo is a DMC4 Nero who hasn't gotten his DMC5 treatment yet even if there's been clumsy attempts at doing so.

To an extent, I feel the opposite, imo they didn't need to retire Phoenix for another newbie lawyer and instead just should've had Phoenix not needing as much help from the Feys and their channelling anymore, keep Phoenix but semi-retire Maya & the Fey plot which truly had wrapped up in AA3 and give him a new assistant. Honestly think it's the need to always have a green newbie lawyer as the protagonist which holds the series back.
I think Phoenix's character has gotten so messed up that they should move on from him as the main protagonist though, not ideal but it is what it is.
I don't know about "good character development", but I don't think it should be controversial to think that Capcom getting cold feet about moving beyond the original trilogy is why the new one basically amounts to wheel spinning.

I feel like he shouldn't be exactly the same as he was in the trilogy though. Just don't think he needs to be hobo Batman either, there is a nice inbetween surely. In DD I think he still seems pretty cool when you interact with him as someone else though, the bit in the school case where you're playing as Athena and Phoenix walks her through her first crime scene investigation is the only time in this series he's ever felt like a Mia-type mentor and it fits him I thought.

Nope. Capcom had a perfect chance to make a new accurate English translation/localization for the remaster collection and they didn't do it because they were too lazy. They should've hired the Sega team that made translations for Judgement games
Thus. Fire Hsu and the other localization clowns and give us new guys. If U.S Bamco can course correct the "Tenkaichi" games and use the original Sparking name, then Capcom USA has no excuse.

Hsu makes me feel conflicted. She owns a lot of what I loved about the franchise as a westerner, but she has gone off in the deep end of troonyism, and I struggle to cheer for her anymore.
That said, Japanifornia is the heart and soul of this franchise. People holding on to the unlocalized names are weebs who think more about flaunting how much they know about Japanese to english folks than they're part of the japanese fandom that they chose to join.

I'm a big fan of the localization, but what made me not by the new trilogy was the weird changes to Robin in the academy case to make it vague when it's simply a girl disguising as guy. I'm not even political but I just hate that dialouge was changed for no good reason. All I can do is not by the new game, keep playing the old ones and let Capcom know via that survey that I didn't buy the new game for translation differences.

I've never had any occasion to mention this anywhere, but since we're talking about English scripts I want it to be known that it really bothered me that they tried to give the farm girl jurist in DGS2 my area's regional dialect but got most of the grammar/syntax wrong. In particular, describing a personal as "a proper job" genuinely made me cringe physically.
