My consoles (PS1 - PS5, PSP, Vita, Nintendo Switch, Wii, Steam deck, Xbox and more) are collecting dust. One thing that never collect dust is my pc. Weird.
Actually this, I've been using my deck almost daily, the switch I've only ever touched if the lights ever went out and my deck wasn't charged and that's only been about 2 times, only reason I don't sell my deck is because I have games I don't want to go to complete waste.
I had a 3DS for the entirety of its lifespan and that thing is such a piece of shit. Definitely has some good games but I hate how it looks and feels so much. The idea of using it for anything other than 3DS exclusives makes my head spin

I travel for work and it's much better than a laptop in lobbies and on a plane. It has way more games than a switch, and I can use my existing library.

Same here, the older my PC gets the noisier that fricker becomes. Wife plays games like stardew valley a lot too but neither of us is able to sleep when the PC is running vidya, so we moved it to the office a few years ago

I'm still using mine. I find a lot of mid 2000's games have a better chance of running properly on it compared to my desktop, even got to play Overlord for the first time in a decade, which is how I beat it recently.
What I really like though is being able to put it to sleep and then wake it up again to continue playing, which I abuse constantly during my lunch break. That's not something a normal PC has ever fully supported.

I've been discovering this too. I'd argue at this point linux is better at playing games than modern windows is somehow. Sure modern games will likely play fine on windows while a few might have trouble on linux, but broadly speaking I've had way more issues with older games on windows than with linux. Having to tinker or do some weird shit to get an older game to run on windows when it just boots right up like nothing on my deck is kind of surreal.
I just couldn't stand being a PC vegan. There's far too many games out there on other platforms I wanted to play. But I understand other people have different tastes and are fine with less games.
Consolegays thinks sales and exclusives are what make products good because they're so used to being trapped in a shitty no gaems walled garden hardware they don't actually own, so they assume those are the only real metrics for success. They don't understand that PC hardware has to stand on its own and that PCgays don't get tricked into buying shit hardware just to play exclusives because virtually everything worth playing is already on PC anyway.

For me the honeymoon period happened in reverse. I was like "Yeah this will be cool I guess, will be nice to have as a living room console and something I can play outside underneath an awning on rainy days" to over time as I continued to use it and add shit onto it both physical and software wise "This is the coolest platform I've bought since the sega dreamcast."
Pretty much how I felt. Was eh on it at first, but as I started using it more and realizing what it could do I realized it was the best handheld I've ever bought by far. People like to call the switch a hybrid just for having an hdmi port, but the deck is a real hybrid for managing to have the massive benefits of a pc with a convenient console-like pick up and play factor. Never buying another console and dealing with all their abuses again and it feels great.

Heads up. It will disable all the cryoutilities changes and you would need to reenable them. I dont know if 3.5 is stable with cryoutilities as I experienced frequent crashing with cryoutilities.

Which isn't an issue. With the newer 6.1 kernel in 3.5 preview, SteamOS handles high memory pressure well enough to make any swap tweaks redundant. The rest is placebo at best and can harm battery life and efficiency at worst. The default configuration is fine.

All of Decky is in your /home/ folder so the OS won't frick with it and it's more if the steam client is playing nice with it. The only thing that's crashing for me so far is Animation Loader.

I play the Steam Deck more than my other devices. Ive configured a whole pornographic setup for the device. Ive got 3 1 terabyte sdcards, 2 500 gig sdcards, 1 128 gig sdcard for emulation. All bought for this device. I play fricking starfield on this thing.

But personally I've only played on PC and (preferably hacked) Nintendo handhelds for the last 15 years. I hated having to buy the same game twice on Steam and Switch just so I could play it portably. It was such a waste of money.
Now with Steam Deck I don't have to. AND all my saves are on the cloud, so I can seamlessly switch between desktop and handheld. It's great, I'll never buy a console ever again.

I think OLED is gonna be the top tier version of the model 2, lower 2 will just be slightly better displays, maybe with some sort of VRR (playing around with a friend's ally and vrr is so much more important when you're playing at these varying, unstable framerates, it's so smooth)

I already have a PS4 though. And the most notable games I would even want to play with better performance don't even have 60 fps patches for PS5. I would sooner buy a switch to play a few games online that I would likely never play in the first place. That's why there's just no point for me to play anything beyond PC anymore.
For me it was half a dozen games on switch, several on PS4, and Series X for multiplayer without hackers. But I wouldn't worry about it, just platform preference.

It really defeated the purpose of a traveling game console for me. I know there is wifi on most flights but it moves at potato speed and I just watched another person open their switch next to me and had zero issues.

I use the Deck's charger to fast charge my phone more than I actually play the Steam Deck. That being said, it's a great device, it's just so bulky with low battery life that it can be difficult sometimes to justify its best use cases. It's basically a portable Gamecube for me at this point.
I'm not even an emulation Chad and the best use of the steam deck for me has been able to play armored core and elden ring in bed. It means my PC games can be taken to be just like my switch games. It caused me to get a new office chair after a bit because I became biased against playing games on my PC if I didn't have to, despite them running better and having better graphics. It's also really really fun to run small indie games on it, like Vagante or Cassette Beasts or Disc Creatures. There's tons of simple, steam games that take up almost no space that just need the basics to run flawlessly. Also, I have the entire MegaMan X and MegaMan Battle Network series on that shit. I guess I could have those on the switch, but now I can truly relegate my switch to the "Nintendo Shit Only" console. I have bought multiple things just to have them on switch and steam deck, such as Monster Rancher DX 1/2 and now that I can play it in bed on my steam deck (there's absolutely no reason for me to sit at a computer to play PlayStation one games on a modern gaming PC) I just straight up deleted it off the switch.
It's sad but now that Armored Core, Monster Rancher, Digimon, and a lot of other stuff has come to steam, I have pretty much dropped PlayStation as a brand out of my life. And I owned every PlayStation growing up from 1-4 with multiple PSPs.
That was on the Dolphin developers for including Wii decryption keys in their release. Valve told them to sort it out with Nintendo, but they gave up instead and binned the Steam release.
It doesn't fricking matter though, and isn't relevant to the Steam Deck because the Deck is a PC and you can easily click "Add as Non Steam game" and play.

I'm still using mine. I find a lot of mid 2000's games have a better chance of running properly on it compared to my desktop, even got to play Overlord for the first time in a decade, which is how I beat it recently.
What I really like though is being able to put it to sleep and then wake it up again to continue playing, which I abuse constantly during my lunch break. That's not something a normal PC has ever fully supported.

I've been discovering this too. I'd argue at this point linux is better at playing games than modern windows is somehow. Sure modern games will likely play fine on windows while a few might have trouble on linux, but broadly speaking I've had way more issues with older games on windows than with linux. Having to tinker or do some weird shit to get an older game to run on windows when it just boots right up like nothing on my deck is kind of surreal.
I just couldn't stand being a PC vegan. There's far too many games out there on other platforms I wanted to play. But I understand other people have different tastes and are fine with less games.

I was like "Yeah this will be cool I guess, will be nice to have as a living room console and something I can play outside underneath an awning on rainy days" to over time as I continued to use it and add shit onto it both physical and software wise "This is the coolest platform I've bought since the sega dreamcast."
Pretty much how I felt. Was eh on it at first, but as I started using it more and realizing what it could do I realized it was the best handheld I've ever bought by far. People like to call the switch a hybrid just for having an hdmi port, but the deck is a real hybrid for managing to have the massive benefits of a pc with a convenient console-like pick up and play factor. Never buying another console and dealing with all their abuses again and it feels great.

Heads up. It will disable all the cryoutilities changes and you would need to reenable them. I dont know if 3.5 is stable with cryoutilities as I experienced frequent crashing with cryoutilities.

Which isn't an issue. With the newer 6.1 kernel in 3.5 preview, SteamOS handles high memory pressure well enough to make any swap tweaks redundant. The rest is placebo at best and can harm battery life and efficiency at worst. The default configuration is fine.

All of Decky is in your /home/ folder so the OS won't frick with it and it's more if the steam client is playing nice with it. The only thing that's crashing for me so far is Animation Loader.

I used steam game stream to stream a game on my home computer to my deck that was connected to hospital wifi on the other side of the city and it actually felt fine. Was suprised.

Now with Steam Deck I don't have to. AND all my saves are on the cloud, so I can seamlessly switch between desktop and handheld. It's great, I'll never buy a console ever again.

Emudeck makes it so easy it's nuts. Having them all up on emulation station with how easy it is to download entire libraries and you're frickin' set.
I prefer to put all of the ones I will actually play as their own shortcut. Its fun to set custom art for as well. I also make ones for games that either dont have any or have really bad ones.

I think OLED is gonna be the top tier version of the model 2, lower 2 will just be slightly better displays, maybe with some sort of VRR (playing around with a friend's ally and vrr is so much more important when you're playing at these varying, unstable framerates, it's so smooth)

I would be an idort if there were games to play on other consoles but there aren't anymore. Even barring emulation, I'm too old to care about nintendo games. It just sounds like a waste of money. What would I even play on PS5? Destruction Allstars?

I already have a PS4 though. And the most notable games I would even want to play with better performance don't even have 60 fps patches for PS5. For me it was half a dozen games on switch, several on PS4, and Series X for multiplayer without hackers. But I wouldn't worry about it, just platform preference.
Its a little annoying that updating the deck can break my plugins but I understand thats all community stuff. Would be cool if they made some kind of official thing for plugins.

It really defeated the purpose of a traveling game console for me. I know there is wifi on most flights but it moves at potato speed and I just watched another person open their switch next to me and had zero issues.
Yeah it sucks. Best you can do is checkup pre flight and then put it in airplane mode before you even get to the terminal.

I use the Deck's charger to fast charge my phone more than I actually play the Steam Deck. That being said, it's a great device, it's just so bulky with low battery life that it can be difficult sometimes to justify its best use cases. It's basically a portable Gamecube for me at this point.

To be honest, all of my electronics collect dust because dust just easily appears on them.
I'm not even an emulation Chad and the best use of the steam deck for me has been able to play armored core and elden ring in bed. It means my PC games can be taken to be just like my switch games. It caused me to get a new office chair after a bit because I became biased against playing games on my PC if I didn't have to, despite them running better and having better graphics. It's also really really fun to run small indie games on it, like Vagante or Cassette Beasts or Disc Creatures. There's tons of simple, steam games that take up almost no space that just need the basics to run flawlessly. Also, I have the entire MegaMan X and MegaMan Battle Network series on that shit. I guess I could have those on the switch, but now I can truly relegate my switch to the "Nintendo Shit Only" console. I have bought multiple things just to have them on switch and steam deck, such as Monster Rancher DX 1/2 and now that I can play it in bed on my steam deck (there's absolutely no reason for me to sit at a computer to play PlayStation one games on a modern gaming PC) I just straight up deleted it off the switch.
It's sad but now that Armored Core, Monster Rancher, Digimon, and a lot of other stuff has come to steam, I have pretty much dropped PlayStation as a brand out of my life. And I owned every PlayStation growing up from 1-4 with multiple PSPs.

That was on the Dolphin developers for including Wii decryption keys in their release. Valve told them to sort it out with Nintendo, but they gave up instead and binned the Steam release.
It doesn't fricking matter though, and isn't relevant to the Steam Deck because the Deck is a PC and you can easily click "Add as Non Steam game" and play.

These things have gotten real cheap since the deck launched. I remember looking up a 1tb around when the deck first came out and it was over double that. There's really no real reason not to get the cheapest deck and just swap the ssd now.
