My feelings as well. There may have been some artistic choices in some of the enemy design, but so much of it was just following the PS3 design trends and/or limited by the tech of the time. The remake is mostly an overall improvement.
Yeah it isn't anything crazy but the remaster, instead of keeping the cool designs and actually making them look good replaced everything with assets so soulcrushingly generic they could drop from mobs in a chinese mobile game. I needn't post any of the dozen comparison pics spammed here, you can look at pretty much any enemy or armor set and see for yourself.

Honestly they were TOO faithful. The game feels and plays like a garbage dated PS3 game. Should have updated the design even if it made Chuds seethe. They'd get mad anyway.
At first I agreed, what with things like heavy attacks and plunging attacks, but I like that it allows you to employ certain tricks that you otherwise couldn’t that makes DeS special, like baiting enemies, players into following you in a drop just to be able to whail on them as they recover.
biz idea: if you want to play a new game, don't play a remake of an old game, play a new game instead

This is just what bluepoint does. They did the same thing with shadow of the colossus and everyone who matters actually praised them for it. Staying faithful to the original while making it from a technical standpoint look significantly better is what every remaster should strive for. What I'd criticize them the most for, is changing shit that didn't need to be changed. The updated designs for the most part are worse.
