>shits on a singles metagame when every mainline game is singles focused to reach the credits
why are people like this? wouldnt you want to pvp with the primary format you used your story team with? are you going to gatekeep people who want to pvp in RBY and GSC now? where’s gen 2 VGC, i’m waiting
Nothing Ever Happens Shirt $21.68 |
UFOs Are A Psyop Shirt $21.68 |
Nothing Ever Happens Shirt $21.68 |
people who wank VGC don't like VGC, they just hate smogon
the real solution is to put more then 4 doubles battles in the game
maybe say have every route have at least one double battle
maybe even make the entire game focused on double battles to make the format more appealing to players
Yeah they tried making an entire game based on doubles, and it sold like 1/3rd of what Emerald did, which itself was a step down compared to Ruby/Sapphire.
you mean to tell me the game that sold 3 million copies was a failurein the gamecube era?
really?
truly?
and that a single version sold less then two of the best selling gameboy games?
Doesn't really help that double battles were still seen as just a gimmick back then
People don’t shit on singles. They shit on Smogon 6v6. Don’t conflate the two.
>B-BUT THE TODDLER CAMPAIGN
How is this relevant at all for anyone who actually wants to plays PvP instead of staring at tier lists?
> the real solution is [toddler campaign]
no
If you want to play PvP just play PvP
using less than 6 pokemon is suboptimal. and now lets have a pvp 6v6 singles battle right now and I get to use Calyrex-Shadow, Arceus, Miraidon, Zacian, Rayquaza, and Ho-oh.
>inb4 noooooo you cant legendary spam let me make my own fanfic singles meta!!
>using less than 6 pokemon is suboptimal
no it isn't
the game is fricking horribly balanced around 6v6 which is why they've literally never used 6v6 as a competitive format in any game ever
online pvp right now, you use a team of 3 and i'll use a team of 6 legendaries and i'll win every time easy with an advantage. using less than 6 is literally handicapping yourself. also you're gatekeeping anyone doing RBY and GSC pvp where they want to play to win.
are you making up arbitrary fanfic rules of how a gen 2 pvp battle must be less than 6 pokemon now?
or
hear me out
the campaign does literally anything to prepare you for pvp
instead the best way to get into pvp is to use showdown and looking up the mechanics online
>maybe even make the entire game focused on double battles to make the format more appealing to players
No thanks. Play VGC if you want doubles
then dont complain if people end up wanting competitive singles if every mainline game all the way to the credits is just singles battles
>Don’t complain about [the ideal situation that I’d want]
?
>game spend 20+ hours making the player play singles against npcs until the credits
>oh ok then the players would want to pvp like how they played in the story
>no actually pvp is doubles because company said so lmao
it's like if splatoon single player is normal but the moment you go multiplayer it turns into a racing game, you dont see anything wrong with that?
I’m quite literally saying the opposite? I think it should be singles as the main format but I’d rather it stay as is than have Doubles be the main battle format in game to “prepare” people for VGC.
Splatoon single player is 1vE and PvP is 4v4. How is that any different than Pokemon? If you want the PvP experience just fricking play PvP. The only people who care about the toddler campaign are morons who only pretend to care about PvP but have no interest in actually playing it, which is why staring at fanfic tier list updates appeals to them do much.
splatoon single player is the same as how you would do multiplayer, competitive pokemon suddenly going doubles is like trying to do splatoon multiplayer but now you're given a 2nd gun to control or a 2nd inkling and told to figure it out even if that concept wasnt explained at all in the single player campaign
>splatoon single player is the same as how you would do multiplayer
not even remotely close unless you have a poor understanding of PvP.
just like how pokemon's campaign isn't even remotely close to PvP even if the toddler campaign was entirely doubles.
To learn PvP you should be playing PvP, not playing the toddler campaign and then staring at tier updates.
>just like how pokemon's campaign isn't even remotely close to PvP
That's why people are saying it should be made closer. What is confusing you about this?
Read the whole post before responding.
Single player in fighting games doesn’t teach you jack shit except controls. Pokemon has no controls because it’s a turn based game. If you want to learn PvP you should be playing PvP.
maybe you fail to realize that if you tried to teach your boomer mom pokemon there are still fundamental battle mechanics she needs to learn before she gets anywhere near doubles pvp because she's busy trying to understand the concept of type matchups, switching out, etc. etc.
>there are still fundamental battle mechanics she needs to learn
Which the singles focused campaign already does.
so why isn't the campaign just doubles to begin with then? and why are you against the idea?
> so why isn't the campaign just doubles to begin with then
Why would it be?
>there are still fundamental battle mechanics she needs to learn
>Which the singles focused campaign already does.
>include doubles in the campaign along with the fundamentals
>transition from campaign to multiplayer smoother
why are you defending this shit system of singles campaign into doubles multiplayer. singles campaign into singles multiplayer, or doubles campaign into doubles multiplayer. common sense, quit bootlicking Game Freak
>there are still fundamental battle mechanics she needs to learn
They already exist in singles.
>include doubles in the campaign along with the fundamentals
For what purpose? If you need anything more than the fundamentals you should be playing PvP.
>common sense
No, it sounds more like you’re just assblasted because you don’t want to actually play PvP but you want to pretend you know about doubles. Which is probably why Smogon appeals to so many campaignshitters who don’t actually play PvP. The singles format and tier system allows campaignshitters to feel as if they’re part of the discussion without ever touching the actual game because they’re too lazy to learn it.
Can you post your vgc trophy?
Who said I play vgc?
You care a lot for someone that doesn't play.
I haven’t mentioned vgc a single time in this thread.
What PvP do you play then?
He doesn't.
Singles and doubles.
>fighting games shouldn't have a single player arcade mode to help beginners ease into the game fighting AIs because I said so
quit gatekeeping
Everyone knows you can't learn frame data or practice combos in single player. Pros are notorious for not labbing things out solo.
what kind of beginner do you expect to learn frame data or practice combos? what do you have against a beginner trying to just learn the fundamentals of how the controls and game works by fighting AIs?
if you have an average person wanting to play pvp in pokemon because they enjoyed the main game, forcing them to lab out double strats where doubles is barely explored in the main game is an easy way to drive a beginner off. quit gatekeeping
Holy shit you're a frickomg homosexual. It was a satirical reply. have a nice day.
Congrats on being so illiterate that you need to communicate through images someone else made.
If “I don’t want to learn the strategies” turns someone off from PvP then they never had a real interest in PvP in the first place
Even if the toddler campaign was entirely doubles, it requires no strategy except mindlessly clicking the super effective/stab buttons with your overleveled Pokemon. It wouldn’t teach you jack shit.
>maybe even make the entire game focused on double battles to make the format more appealing to players
They did that and zoomers are seething about them because their ADHD brains can't handle actual high quality animations.
>not having a team that works in both singles AND doubles
ngfmi
3v3 is even more poorly balanced than 6v6 and all of the official competitions in gens 1-2 (as well as several of the official competitions in gen 3) were 6v6
3v3 is the official format because each individual game is less time-intensive
Double battles suck fricking ass. I want my pokemon to 1v1 like in the movies, not this gay tryhard shit to try and make pokemon of all things a fricking esport
singles is literally 9 choices to pick from each turn, 4 moves or switch out to 5 other mons. doubles is easily 100+ combinations of what 2 moves to pick and who to target or if you want to switch out each turn.
sorry to here you have adhd and don't enjoy strategy in your games, chess would make your mind implode
yeah bro let's take these singleplayer rpg mechanics like random misses and random crits and try to turn them into a """competitive""" game lmao. you choose to play a baby game like pokemon because a real competitive game would be too scary for you, your brain is so big
OHNONONONO
Doubles should've just been the main battle system from gen 3 onwards.
